Eyes adjusted to the bright green leaves my old girl's eyes use to do the same turn the same green color of grass when taken out to the back yard with a harness leased color of course and turn gold when indoors. Your very good fur babies parents that's what this world needs more of. Being an animal advocate we seen and know oh too much about the dangers of being left to go on their own with less than a 2% chance of any cat finding their way back home if LOST, the can't read signs people, plus it's a very dangerous world out there these day!
Hello! I adore your videos and sometimes come back to watch them again. I haven't seen an upload in a while, and I hope the cats (and you, of course) are doing okay.
So awesome! We have 7 cats -- 2 of them spent their whole life outdoors until a few months ago. I so badly wish we could make something like this for the cats. That's awesome!
I concur with your viewer that mentioned the relaxing effect of your voice. It's to do with the calm tempo and that you don't find it necessary to fill every moment with chatter.
That is a great idea, just showed this to my husband. We really need one we live in the country and with the coyotes and odd cougar and tons of fox, but the fox don’t bother with my cats.
Hey there! I just finished watching your series on introducing a new cat, and I loved it! I was kinda bummed out when I found that the series ended so abruptly. Hopefully your cats are still doing well!
I have a Savannah just like Freya.... She doesn't go outside apart from a daily walk on a lead and thoroughly agree with the response to Antonio below. After 18 monts she now just about tolerates her Ragdoll cross companion! How I wish I had the space outside for one of these Catios!
Thanks for sharing, but I think it should be much larger and where you regularly go inside and enjoy being with them. I plan to make my catio soon and will probably make it 40 feet by 50 feet, with a small fishpond type pool in the center, and with plants around to make it nice for me to enjoy as well as the cats. In fact, considering it to be a zen garden style with possible a small entertainment area and place to BBQ (of course, protected from cats getting too close). The other thing is that while you serve your cats nicely with the elevated walkways, one of my senior cats (16 years old) is unable to jump up at all due to arthritis. I think it is important to accommodate older cats as well, maybe even making some gradual ramps to climb up on. I like the plants, and how do you find which plants are "safe" for cats? There are so many plants that can be poisonous. And of course, you have to deal with insects without insecticides.
Very useful. My 2 cats have been indoor-only because of all the predators around here. There's more coyotes than I can shoot, the golden eagles/great horned owls are protected, and the local tweakers don't think twice about hitting a cat with their Geo Metros.
My cat is free range. So she runs in and out as she pleases. She brings home a lot of dead animals that she puts just outside the door. Does this mean she is happy and want to share her catch with us as a family?
be cool add cat/ dog tunnels, or hanging walk ways by rode and one made out of a wheel with small balls inside to make them think and study it as well work out or just play with. or get catnip or cat grass beds. or crazy outdoor toys.
I am going to build an outdoor cat enclosure for my indoor/outdoor cats. My young cat, Blaze, just got out of open chest surgery where they have to remove his entire right lung and he is home now. I am thinking how I can make the rest of his life more pleasant since he will be indoor cat now, but eventually all my 4 cats will be indoor. Thank you so much for your wonderful how to.
how is the yellow cat doing? I was a bit worried when you introduced the bengal male, it could be harsh psychologically for already dominant older males.
Sorry I have not looked at all the comments so you may have answered this, what size wood is used please is it 2 x 2 and also is there a base? Im thinking of making one for my indoor cat that i can put in front of a window for her, Many Thanks Jill
Wow, you have done a spectacular job of building your cats a place where they can experience the great outdoors, but still be safe and not affect the local bird population! Beautiful job! Your spotted tabby reminds me of my own feral that turned out to be an excellent companion! If I could screen my catio, I would be able to able to protect my feline friends from mosquitoes, which (judging by your accent) are not a problem where you live-I have honestly wondered about the mosquito issue on the right side of the pond for some time? Please correct me if I am wrong on that, but I live on the Chesapeake Bay and I worry about about mosquito-transmitted diseases in my pets. I would run the screen on the inside of the hardware cloth. What are your thoughts on this?
It was just a screw in the end for 90 degree joints, and the 45 deg. joints, I just the wood at 45 deg, and again, a screw in to hold it there. The wire mesh gives a lot of structural strength too..
so this is beautiful and your cats seem both healthy and happy. I was wondering about your thoughts on keeping them contained though. for me one of the main beauties of cats is that they are free to go where they like and can leave and that you are not really inhibiting their travel in any way. perhaps this is the best way in a city, i dont mean to be attacking at all, just interested in the decision.
+Drathys Hi there, no problem :-) The average life expectancy of an outdoor cat is about 7 years, but the average life expectancy for an indoor cat is 14 years. That was enough to convince me. And equally, all the cat experts I've ever seen, including Jackson Galaxy say that indoor only cats are fine and healthy.
+The Cat Behaviour Channel - That's odd, my pet cat (outdoor cat) lived for at least 15 years, even after having five+ litters of kittens (20 years ago when neutering was less common). I was always stunned to see her blocks away from home in NYC, but she always found her way back every day until she vanished when she was really old
+MikeWB3 That's interesting. All of my outdoor cats died relatively young in various ways; dogs, cars, poison, etc. :-( When I started to keep my cats inside, they lived much longer lives. However, it is EXTREMELY important to provide an enriching environment for them if you keep them indoors. Since cats are very curious and playful, they get bored being stuck in a house all day. So I have plenty of toys for them around the house. They also love looking out the window at the birds and squirrels feeding at the bird-feeder. A catio is great enrichment, too; but I can't afford to build one at the moment, unfortunately.
I see you have both a palm and ivy inside. One of my cats loves chewing on my palm, which is safe, as it belongs to the grass family. But ivy is toxic for cats. Do yours not chew on it?
I don’t know if this is a silly question but how does this work with neighbours/planning permission? What I have planned would be the same height above the fence as this
It depends on your country, but for me, it's a "temporary" structure, so generally avoids planning laws. Best thing is to speak to your neighbours, and if they don't object, you're probably ok.
My female cat, around 4 years old now, a Calico, keeps attacking my nearly 9 or 10 year old Bombay male. I feel it's aggressive since she has her ears back when she goes in for the attack. They are both declawed but she still sometimes rips some of his hair out with her teeth, again leading me to believe it's aggressive. Is there anything I can do? They've been going on like this ever since we got her when she was a kitten. We thought it was just fun when she was a kitten, but she's never grown out of it. Other than that, she's an extremely friendly and playful cat, and has no other major shortcomings, besides trying to eat our food all the time. He's usually not confrontational, rarely bites, and sleeps 90% of the day. Any ideas on how to stop them from fighting all the time?
I have a question: do you have a problem with draughts were the cats enter? We are trying to research a cat entrance through a wall with an insulted tunnel and a catflap at both ends, but I see you have an open end into the catio and only a catflap on the inside. That looks interesting but is it heat conserving?
Like how big your catio is:) I got a small one built for my cats recently as I don't have much space for a large one. Sadly I am not at all happy with what I got. The wood doesn't look sturdy enough and the mesh is plastic. I wanted wire mesh and was assured that this was wire covered in plastic, which it isn't. I am really disappointed and feel like I've been properly ripped off. Just wanted to ask, is ivy alright for cats to be around?
I love your catio. We have 6 cats who are indoor/outdoor. They do their business outside. How do you cope with that? My sister wants to build a catio, so I'm researching for her. We would like to eventually get a Maine Coon, which we couldn't let outside. On another note, you sound like the guy from Obsolete Oddity.
Good grief, an entry through a brick wall. That's dedication.
My grandparents put a cat door through cinder block for their cats.
Of course though a brick wall. He's British. They don't have wooden walls over there. (I'm joking....I know they have brick AND stone walls.)
omg, freya's eyes are GORGEOUS!
ok, well, chatzi's eyes are also gorgeous. such beautiful cats!
+vaslle Don't encourage them! They're big headed as it is! :-)

Hello! I adore your videos and sometimes come back to watch them again. I haven't seen an upload in a while, and I hope the cats (and you, of course) are doing okay.
Your catio looks great! Thanks for sharing. You obviously have a lot of happy cats, and I can see why. They get a lot of love and enrichment.
Thank you so much for doing another video, you have to do more I missed all you guys.
what a wonderful, generous and fabulously wild catio!!!!!
It's refreshing to see a Brit who adores cats. A lot of my British friends only like dogs. Thanks for the nice video mate.
Are you going to continue making videos?
So awesome!
We have 7 cats -- 2 of them spent their whole life outdoors until a few months ago. I so badly wish we could make something like this for the cats. That's awesome!
Thanx so much for sharing this and giving me ideas to build something similar for my colony of cats.
I concur with your viewer that mentioned the relaxing effect of your voice. It's to do with the calm tempo and that you don't find it necessary to fill every moment with chatter.

+loopguru66 Hah! I totally agree! :-)
I have fallen in love with these cats!!
Thanks for sharing, but I think it should be much larger and where you regularly go inside and enjoy being with them. +Jim Wolff I think he should make a catwalk around the edge of the fence
I love it! Also, beautiful cats!
Fascinating!
+pepeledog you mean FURscinating
Very cool. You have an amazing narrating voice.
Nice and pleasant voice for the narration...

What A Cool Looking Cat ●♡●
Very useful. My 2 cats have been indoor-only because of all the predators around here. There's more coyotes than I can shoot, the golden eagles/great horned owls are protected, and the local tweakers don't think twice about hitting a cat with their Geo Metros.
Nice outdoor cat hangout.
Love it

YAY a new video!
Please come back. We miss you so much.
fantastic
I miss your cats
How did you make the door? And how do they open it from inside? Could you do a video on this? :)
Too few videos! Beautiful cats and awesome catio! Unfortunately it's hard to build such things in a flat.
has it been through hurricane winds? i live near coast and we have been getting hurricanes.
Any chance you guys will keep making videos, havent seen anything up in a while
the stalking behaviour at the end
be cool add cat/ dog tunnels, or hanging walk ways by rode and one made out of a wheel with small balls inside to make them think and study it as well work out or just play with. or get catnip or cat grass beds. or crazy outdoor toys.
Having an outdoor catio, do they still try and door dash? Or having the catio has stopped their interest in door dashing?
thanks!
That's awesome, won't the Bengal cats get too big for the opening though?
I am going to build an outdoor cat enclosure for my indoor/outdoor cats. My young cat, Blaze, just got out of open chest surgery where they have to remove his entire right lung and he is home now. VanillaSnake21 you mean teego
a hole in the fence 5cm x5 cm?
Can you please do a video of cat gait, at walking, and running speeds. It really fascinates me how they walk.
Is it a pain to clean it up when the seasons change and the vegetation grows, dies, etc?
Sorry I have not looked at all the comments so you may have answered this, what size wood is used please is it 2 x 2 and also is there a base? Im thinking of making one for my indoor cat that i can put in front of a window for her, Many Thanks Jill
i'd like to be a cat and hang out there. cool catio!
You should add some hammocks, my cats 🐱 love 💕 them
how much meter for long ?
Isn't ivy dangerous for cats? I thought I had heard it can be toxic...
what is the plastic you used for the opening callef?
It's just a normal catflap, but one with spacers in the middle, as walls are a lot thicker than doors.

My goodness, you sound a bit like kipper the dog! Anyone ever see that show as a kid? Love the catio!
How do you fasten joints, what hardware?

we subscribed your channel
what kind of mesh is that and where did you find it? love this video
I googled 25mm wire mesh! :-)
+The Cat Behaviour Channel when's the next vid gonna be out 😀
hey come back! this is the first time i've watched you but i think i got lots to learn from you about cat behaviour. i hope every things alright.

is it safe to keep feeding a stray cat who seems to be stalked by other stray cats?
Hi! this is great :) I am want to create a catio on my balcony. Will you please let me know which plants and trees are safe for cats?
+StudioGAYA I can't give you a big list, but look it up on the internet, there are lots of resources to help you :-)
Thank you for replying :)
