Building a 'Vintage' Supercar out of $500 Porsche! (Project Jigsaw #44)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- This week we continue Project Jigsaw, our 1960's inspired supercar project based on a Porsche Boxster. The center of the hood needs adjusted and welded, then we use automotive clay to layout the new fender flare design.
Come along as Tony and Ryan problem-solve the complex engineering behind this project, and take jabs at each other all along the way!

We see your feedback on the camera motion, this will be addressed for next weeks video. 👍🏻
I like the concept and the result but it does need estabilisation
Ya, I like some of the raw focus effect on the camera in real time, and glad you got a camera person so you guys can focus on the build, I love your content. Been watching for quite some time and your channel is the highlight of the week for me. Keep up the good work!
A little motion smoothing goes a long way. Camera man youre killing it. Cant wait to see how far youll go
Big fan of this build, but your camera guy needs a tripod and to seriously lay off those whip zooms.
Came here to say that.
Tony with the epic "Triactin" burn.
His Dad Joke powers are unstoppable.
Video framerate has been fixed! Had an encoding issue that caused the initial upload to be choppy. So we decided to reupload the video. Thanks for baring with us guys!
a lot more watchable now. not making me motion sick like the last upload (and I don't even get motion sick). camera work still needs a bit of practice but much better without the framerate issue.
@@myopinion69420noted! We will also address the camera movements for next week. 👍🏻
So much better, thank you!
"Triactin", best joke I've heard in a very long time!
I knew the punchline was coming... still couldn't help but laugh when it hit though.
I personally like the camera work, but a stable gimbal might help a bit. I can imagine filming in a shop like that can be tough with how everything's laid out. Maybe another camera on a tripod could help for when someone's talking out of frame instead of panning back and forth.
Great progress guys. It is amazing how quickly the basic shape comes together, but the fine details is what really soaks up the time. Nice work.
Enjoying double progress rather than tag teaming.
I am a student here, this sh*t is bananas, very impressed. You guys are doing crazy work, this is giving me more inspiration to install a bathroom vanity I have been freaking out about. Thank you!
14:24 Buddy Epson is the actor who was super sensitive to aluminum paint makeup. Nice guy. His son Dusty was at a summer camp with me ~56 years ago.
Thanks for the video.
Buddy Ebsen. He played Jed Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies.
Just purchased some shirts and thanks for the repost with framerate fixed!
We appreciate your support! 🙏
I will NEVER miss an episode of the Statler and Waldorf reenactment, I mean Project Jigsaw.
Keep going lads.
Yeah! Saturday morning 'cartoons!' I got worried when the video disappeared
We felt bad removing the initial post - but it needed to be done, the framerate was waaaaay off. 🙏
This was awesome. See you both working at the same time but yeah, shaky cam no Bueno. 🥴🤢😅
The "hood" or a Bee in your "bonnet?" I have really enjoyed my Saturdays viewing your content. I look forward to the finished product. You guys make a very entertaining program why stack dimes when you can stack 1/2 dollars😂 just kidding, not really though. Seriously I appreciate your authentic portrayal of the issues that come up during this type of build.
Good to see you both in the frame together. Good to see you working proficiently! This is the highlight of my Saturday night in Hong Kong. That’s when you watch cartoons in your time zone.
Great work fellas! Also kicking redbull, celcius , monster.... is a pain! I did a dry February this year and decided to cut out energy drinks after at least 10yrs of being on them non-stop... it was hard at first but one of the healthiest things I've done with long term positive benefits! Also saved a ton of cash and bought a really good coffee machine and grinder to get my caffeine fix.... good luck kicking the habit! thanks for the amazing series!
I get the feedback on the whip pans and zooms but having both of you on camera all video was well worth the little bit of change in filming style. You will find a groove. Good work. Also sick Dad style burn!
You guys are a great pair! The camera person is doing an awesome job. 👍🏼
Triactin!! Too funny
God! The level of work in this project would make me drive it like I didn't own it. We all know it screams to go fast.
Loving the content from across the pond in Edinburgh
Long time viewer here, I enjoyed the camera work, I dont know if this is tru but it seems like the video flowed alot faster, I liked this becasue most of your videos you teach alot of tips and tricks that I end up applying to my proyects, great work !
A few weeks ago, you spent some time repairing the red 911. That's a nice thing to add to the channel from time to time. Great job on Jigsaw too!
80 degrees and 60% humidity... Sounds like Louisiana Christmas weather!
I usually like every video anyways, but I want Tony to know that this like is getting Ryan with the “tryactin” joke. That was a knee slapper
Digging the fender clay work, going to be a nice detail!🔥🔥🔥
I freakin LOL'd at the Triactin joke!
Glad to see u fellas got a camera guy. U guys know we all like to see the finished product of all the work done. Sure u guys want to drive it too. Ur Dad would be proud, if my info correct.
One of my Saturday cartoons
I thought that the flairs on 60's cars was a more like a bubble, aka a 1 1/2 inch round over and almost no straight edges. Love the fact that you both are working side by side now
so nice and unusual to see both of you in the frame. I'm sure the cameraman will get much better with time. It's great that you have the option of a more concentrated effort on the project. I like it. 👍🏻
Nice work, great video 2x👍
Great work as always. Love English wheel
such awesome work guys. You make me want to build a car!
Love this series
"Stayin' alive", well played.
Reckon you guys should knock up a few more models based on the clay model?
Could glue together foam core and sculpt that, believe the additional input would give the shop a couple more toys and provide dimensional data.
☮️
Great perseverance
I like the new format
Agree on the mask and sword. Very much needed. Also check out the band THE SWORD... i feel like that would be the trifecta... love your vids. BTW!
Lol the office reference
The front end is looking pretty massive over those wheels and tires. There's a whole lotta airspace between the top of the tires and the undersides of those fenders, which is something you see in rebodies fairly often. Maybe it's too late to suck the fenders down now but one thing you could plan for is using some tall sidewall 26.5 - 27" vintage type tires under it to fill the wells out. The Avon CR6ZZ, for instance.
What you're describing was pretty typical for the 60s. Maybe the gap is intentional.
@@MrDavidrosenberger Look at a GT40 or Ferrari P4 in profile and you'll see that the distance from the top of the tire to the top of the fender is only about the same distance as the height of the tire sidewall. As this project currently sits, there are about three sidewall heights within that space. A taller 60s type tire sidewall might make that more like two but it's still too much. These fenders could come down probably a full 3" and still allow full suspension articulation. Currently it has the proportions of an amateur Fiero kit.
They mentioned in an earlier video that the wheel gap is deliberate. Its in keeping with the 60s style.
@@dclipper8052 Maybe we should let them finish it first before we start critiquing proportions?
I'm not talking about a gap. If you're thinking I mean the space between the tire and the wheelwell cutout where he added the clay you are misunderstanding me. I'm talking about the height of the very top of the fenders, like the curve you see when you're sitting in the car looking out. There's a huge distance between that and the tops of the tires. A this stage it just doesn't look like a professional design. I understand it's still in process but there's no harm in offering some suggestions to guide the process, in case they're actually open to them. In case you ain't noticed, content creators do everything they can to get people to leave comments.
This car is a great opportunity to do things that current designers aren't even able to do, because of pedestrian crash standards and whatnot. Suck it down loooow. Trim out every ounce of fat.
I was hoping to meet you guys at Carlisle this year, too bad you couldn’t make it, but I still had fun out there bringing up old memories from back in the day when I was into Saabs until about 2010.
What do you guys drive as a daily?
Thanks for mentioning welding both sides of the aluminium. That's the only way I have been able to get decent welds on my aluminium car I am gas welding. I've also made the same mistake as Tony with too much pressure on the wheel leaving tracks marks so am trying to be more gentle. I use 1.6mm aluminium (14 gauge I think) so can file it out. What gauge are you using? Seems a little thicker?
21:00 Gold, actually sounds like some sort of cold a flu medication.
Seriously tho, he got me because of how good that was. I'm still salty lol.
Another awesome video with twice the amount of activities, I think.
Motion sickness, but great video guy’s
You know what helps with heat? Moving air, know what you can NOT have when TIG welding? Moving air.
Nice episode, I hear a lot of moaning about the whip pans. It's not a problem for me but can be mitigated with editing the whip out or do a two or three camera setup with two cameras on tripods with medium framing and then a handheld for the more active vibe. Enough about the technical shit, I enjoy the work and camaraderie of the shop. You're getting nice work accomplished and enjoying it
Awesome
Puckles? Cute 😄
10:20 learning together!
such patience with the job in hand...
I have motion sickness 2 minutes in.
14:26 now which one of y'all caught the typo cuz you truly enjoy his content
I wonder, although demotivating it will be, if it wouldn't be worth leaving the hood as is, and roughing in the door and rear quarter?
Im happy that you guys can afford a cameraman.
But please, maybe dont put a b-roll in the video every 2 minutes since you guys are supposed to have more footage now.
Tripods. Rotating tripods. Please enough with the whip zooms and shaky cameras that this new guy likes to do. You can fix shaky cam in post process, i know its time consuming but please.
Also objects blocking half the view, im sure you guys will just naturally figure this out, however clips like that really shouldn't make it into the final cut.
Anyways, build going along, you guys are growing, all is good!
Interesante e instructivo.
Love the videos, but it may be getting pretty repetitive. Maybe you guys could jump back and forth between the front end and rear end it could make things more interesting to watch. Or even the roof could be fun to do. Keep up the good work
Been interested in bodyshaping since meeting Chris Runge a couple years back, but his class is expensive and his videos are a little bland 😅. That tryactin line had me dying, thanks for bringing us a dying art in an entertaining way! Also, the camera work isn't that terrible, it's just good to see you both working
car toon time
80% of max possible humidity at that air temperature
80% humidity for complaints? Try the south or the midwest guys lol. The current heat index where I am is 114 and 80% humidity is the norm here.
Tip for the cameraman- Show the work more. Stop zooming in and out between the close ups on the guys and close ups on the work. It's hard to tell what is going on. Especially at like 13:30 should frame his hands and the work as he is explaining what's going on and stay there until the explanation is done. The whip zooms are better for transitions between separate shots, or in the middle of a fight scene to give the feeling of chaos and hide bad fight choreography. Not when showing the details of hand metal work.
Because I saw the negative comments first I wanna say the camera man did a fantastic job. The video was great and I love seeing you both work at the same time.
Big fan of Tryactin...lol
Uploaded my first video today. Haven't made it public yet but it's happening
Hey bud, found your channel.
Is it just me or does this episode feel lower quality than last week's? I don't think the camera settings are right, there's less color than there should be
Congrats on the new camera guy, but I felt sick watching this episode due to the unstable and swooping nature of the camera work. 😢
Aluminum is technically correct. Just, so is aluminium. Blame IUPAC, but both are right.
Which one of you rides the unicycle on the wall? :D
@@gregzambo6693 Ryan does!
@@CrucibleCoachworks Love your work, Keep it up ! It's a whole couse in metalworking. And yes, Unicycling too maybe? :D
I still think there’s too much gap between top of front wheel arch and the fender line. Make it sleeker. It’s too plump and modern looking. Bring the fender line down
Yes, much better with a camera dude
Variates
Get the cameraman a steady cam holder. The movement is making me sick 🤢🤢🤢🤢
A gimball perhaps?
yup, and a little more wide angle, less movement and a little more focus on the work. :)
@@halosenpekka1090 that’s the thing I was thinking about lol
Grow a pair 😂😂😂😂😂
@@dianeaskew6432 of gimbals??
Glad I'm not the only one. As soon as I started the video I noticed how much worse the new cameraman is. I'm sure the feedback is coming through so the next one will improve
It will
please minimize the drama and acting --- just a suggestion, continue the old syle because it was working --- just get an off camera producer / jr. mechanic that can jump on anything, like order food, move cameras around, film. I would have a bunch of cameras on poles coming from the ceiling and at various stations and keep them all running. Then if you both sometimes film each other and then the new guy films off and on plus the fixed cameras you might be able to do get some crazy editing software and that you can mix like music and even do a rough live edit as you are going. You could also have cameras that can pan/tilt/zoom. Everything would be in time sequence unless you alter it . There is a lot good about your show and the dynamic between you. Make it about the craft and the spirit. There is no need to add drama. Your format has been very decent and this project is super cool. Sometimes I watch and somtimes I skip recess and FF to the lectures. Try to keep things simple and consistent. The more you can be yourselfves and show the actual creative process the better it's going to be.
If I had to critique the camera work, it's got a bit too much motion. It's a shop, not a music video.
That is called a sports car. It also starts with s, but it's the real world definition to the car body, not the self inflated egoes naming it super nonsense.
For a supercar design, go look at lamborgini top models, koenigsegg, mclaren f1 and other top lineup, vector w8, isdera imperator and comendatore, etc...
You need the windshield to start from on top of the front wheels as you look on the side, and be really really slanted down and form a straight line with the hood or close to it
1960's inspired vintage supercar, not 1990's lol.
If you are an American, it is not "Aluminium". It is actually Aluminum.
The British and Australians literally spell the name of the metal differently.
I just went on Instagram and started flowing both of your Instagrams.💯👍
Anyone who is suggesting a tripod doesn't know anything about production. Keep the hand cam but use one with motion smoothing. No need to spend all the money on a steady cam rig for a camera operator when there are plenty of cheap options that will do the work for you in software
Camera guy needs to pull out to widescreen
It will look worse before it looks better I think is the saying
Bunch of whiners sheesh lol yeah working in heat is tough 🤣 keep up the great work guys love it
Yeah chamfer line at all would be 60s. Take all of that clay off.
This video sponsored by Triactin - great for man colds and stuffy noses.
thank the gods aluminium not alooomeeenoom
What was old is new again
Guys, I love your channel, and I’m happy you’re progressing, but,…… the new camera work is not working for me on this video. I can’t even finish this episode. I’m getting motion sickness from the constant movement, shaking and zooming in and out. Please don’t use this style for your vids. I don’t want to leave your content alone. Please fix this.
I’m going to honest, the rear end looks a bit too low and short compared to the front which is taller and longer
Maybe just a tiny bit
Yes, On the Wizard of Oz, Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) was the original Tin Man. Halfway through he got metal poisoning, and they had to rep[lace him with Jack Haley.
Yeah guys. The excessive camera movement is actually giving me nausea. Get a gimbal or a fluid head on a tripod. You don’t need to whip back and forth on the two guys constantly.
Camera man moving too much and zooming too much
There is no need for zooming every 5 seconds I could almost handle the shaky cam is if just stayed at one distance. Love the vids but couldn’t watch this one
Tough acting triactin
I'm not feeling to good after watching this far 3:06 🤢🤢🤢🤢
ended up only watching 1/2 of the video before 🤮from all the camera motion
