Hi Glenn Hope you are doing well I think you are on to something with those springs. I have the same aluminum damper kit as you except I’m working on a sand viper. The springs in the damper kit are not the correct ones. They are for 4wd as you stated. I talked to tamiya support and they told me that the sand viper front springs are the same as in the dt02 Ms kit. But the rear springs on the Ms kit are the BLUE springs from the dt02 spring kit (the one that comes with blue and red springs. They don’t make those springs in white anymore. the rear gold springs from the damper kit should work. I ordered a few sets of the red/blue dt02 hop up springs so when they get in I can compare spring rates with the “feel test”. I looked on the tamiya website to see the build manual for the td2. I’m shocked to see that the springs part numbers front and rear point to the dt02 spring kit. That kit comes with the red springs you already have and also the blue hard springs. The medium springs are from a sand viper kit. I’m willing to bet if you borrowed the rear springs from the dt02 Ms kit to test you might be surprised. FYI the dt02 Ms kit has different instructions and calls for 2 o rings built into the rear and none in the front. Maybe this is the unofficial 2wd settings? Anyhow you said it is a work in progress. Can’t wait to se what you’re final build is after all adjustments. I did a detailed post on tamiya club and you can look me up as danimaldaisy if you have time to read it. Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to get my td2. I will probably get it In February of next year after holidays and birthdays ;) 🎉
I love that tamiya is doing new things with their car designs again. This car feels very vintage in that regard even though it is very modern. They stand out. Well done tamiya!!!
Thats a lovely build Glenn. Im going to have to get my hands on one of these kits one day. Really looking forward to the series on this. Cheers as always mate!
stunning build ,cant beat the tamiya blue for a classy look , i did notice your turnbuckles have a small line on themnear ajuaster nut that need too be facing the same way at each end of the car as the thread is clockwise/anti clockwise , this hepls when ajusting so you only have too turn them the same way and both wheels come in or out , not a negetaive on your top shelf build just my 2 cents worth so when you get it track ready you can do simple set up changes with out thinking is it left or right and lose your base set up, keen to watch the next few vids mate
Yep. I have to admit this chassis surprised me a lot with all the bashing around when it was released. Mine is pretty much stock and runs really nice. Loved the build, love the look, this one is one of my favorite. Glenn, I really can feel why you are so exited with yours, it' going to be a bomb with your setup (or the gearing / motor ??? I don't know)...enjoy !!
Glad to hear you love the TD2 Glenn. I absolutely love mine and think it is a wonderful chassis from Tamiya. Great to see them making a modern buggy and I hope more people pick this up and give it more life. Can’t wait to see what you do with the body 😎🙌🏻
G'day Glenn looked fun to build mate I don't mind the Stu now might have to put one of them on the list. Loving your video's these days you are getting really good at working out stuff and you are passing on really Bang on information. Thank you for sharing keep up the great work mate 👍👍
Excellent build video, really enjoyed it. The TD2 chassis looks to be a really good one, pity it's rather more expensive than I would like. Hey ho, it is what it is. Can't wait to see it all finished and running!!
Looks superb, I wasn't going to bother with the TD2 after building the td4 but I'm seriously thinking about it now. Should go well with that super modified motor.
Excellent build again Glenn👍 I'm with you we are very lucky we still have a manufacturer that will have confidence these days to invest in an all new chassis and yes its got its quirkiness which doesn't follow what people may be used to but I'm loving the TD4 and TD2 I don't have a TD2 but the 4 for me was a very cool car to build and run (although I just can't get used to the battery configuration🧐)
Love the TD4 and TD2 and l love the actually names Super Avante and Astute 2022 too! Why not invent new classics of the future which include classic names from the past its actually brilliant insight by tamiya! Glenn l am taking a pun here but l think you enjoyed that build session my friend 😉👍
EDIT: @29:27 Looks good to me lol I was thinking maybe rebuild the shocks with droop built-in maybe? (Trying to remember this from years ago on my CAT 2000), As the arms only at full extension are level with the chassis off small jumps the chassis could bottom out quite often cause the 'bounce effect' I used to get back in the day. With running droop you'll get the right stance with tinkering but all the full travel to allow the shocks/springs take the jump and most of the force out the landing rather than bottoming out and putting the force through the chassis. Probably way to outdated now but how I used to run. Just an Idea! ;)
I’ve got my TD4 on the pile to build but I’m really quite tempted to add a TD2 now too, though mine won’t be runners, purely looking pretty on shelves. Great video, really interesting seeing your build and the thoughts along the way.
Bottom of page 24 in the manual has a few notes on fitting the DF03 dampers by the way, theres nothing crazy in there, but kind of explains how you can get away with the longer shafts that come with the DF03 front dampers
Maybe I've missed something, but can you test if the TD4 body will fit by mocking up the TD4 shell you have? You'd at least get an idea and maybe get a few answers to your questions / ideas. I really like the look of this (love the blue and red shocks - really distinctive, a shame they weren't suitable), and the TD4, so looking forward to seeing this develop - great work as ever!
Awesome build Glen, I am super interested in doing a TD2 build, but not so keen on the 2022 bodyshell. Really keen to see how you get on with fitting the other body.
Hi Glenn, What a great car! One thing I do not understand: the Tamiya engineers did work on the standard setup for probably multiple years and did find the sweet spot. You throw all of that experience away by changing the shocks before you have even run it. Are you sure that is the right way to go? Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Another great video Glenn 👍, the Td2 is an enjoyable build and a capable buggy. It jumps beautifully! Nice and balanced, it's great on loose surfaces but it is almost impossible to steer on your average road (haven't tried concrete). Also if you want to run the car on a track, don't bother with the mudguards, they don't last long 🙄.
Hi, great video! Im into getting my first buggy. Do you think it is capable to take some buggy track jumps? And since the front doesn't bottom out, do you think a different length suspension could solve the issue?
I'm just curious to know why all of ur sub's haven't went over and Subscribed to Keith's channel at RC Icon's? They're definitely missing out on super cool content
Everyone builds, but no one shows the nuances, such as how much grease, how tight to torque hardward, best practices for sorting and finding parts etc.. As a noob to RC, and someone who wants to do it right the first time, this i formation is important and its a little frustrating that the better videos gloss over all this stuff, because they can or just want to meet sponcers expe tations.
If you move the servo on the TD4 to the other side, with motherboard posts, you can position the servo the same way the TD2 is, and eliminate the play.
I absolutely loved my TD2 build. I was able to do it off camera and really just enjoy the process. What a great platform.
Thanks Keith 😎👊🏻

That is one nice chassis it's on my shopping list Glenn, those shocks are awesome fitted a set to my dt03 and they work so well out the box
Excellent thanks Chris 😎👊🏻
Great video as always mate. And your looking well dude 👍
Thank you Mark 😅👊🏻
That is a neat car. I used those shocks and love'em. Can't wait for the next video.

Top build Glenn. Looking forward to part 2.

Looks a really nice platform. Be good to see it running.
Thanks Wade 😅👊🏻
Great build Glenn, looking forward to seeing how the shell fits 👍😎

Nice one Glenn. Looking forward to seeing your body shell and running videos - and really keen to building mine now!

Great build. Great hop ups. It was a pleasure to watch you building it. I'm still curious how it goes on 👍
After watching your video. I'm looking forward to getting my td2 built up. I'm also doing a custom body for mine.
Fantastic what body you going for???
@@TAMIYALegends Sorry I wrote that wrong. I'm going same body but with different decals and colour.

Yeah if you’re running the standard 7.2 pack the TD4 body shells are too narrow unfortunately 🙈
@@TAMIYALegends gotcha, fingers crossed the modded version works
Awesome build Glen, I am super interested in doing a TD2 build, but not so keen on the 2022 bodyshell. Really keen to see how you get on with fitting the other body.
Thanks Nic, yeah it all worked out perfectly tbh, I’ll get that out soon my friend 😅👊🏻
Really enjoyed that. Thanks 👍
Nice video, I got my TD2 shipping on the way. I always wonder if I can turn the front shocks upside down?
Fantastic enjoy the build my friend 😎👊🏻

Should run sweet with the old motor in 👍, I still love using brushed every now and then.👍👍
Yeah you can’t beat a good brushed motor 😇👊🏻
Did you use the X ring O rings that come with TD2 kit shocks they would be better that standard O rings.
Hmmm I’m not sure I did 🤔
@@TAMIYALegends maybe change them next time you rebuild with different oil
Great vid great work.
What brand spur gears fit the ball diff option?
Another great video Glenn 👍
Still not sure if il b getting either the td2 or 4 but each to their own 👌
Thanks Philip 😎👊🏻
good vid.
Thank you 😊
So what are you going to do with the body shell it came with?
I seem to have a problem with my astute 2022. The rear hub on one side keeps breaking. Would an aluminum rear hub work with the td2?
Are you using the hard, medium or hard 201 springs?
Medium on the front at the moment 👊🏻
Hi, great video! Im into getting my first buggy. Do you think it is capable to take some buggy track jumps? And since the front doesn't bottom out, do you think a different length suspension could solve the issue?
I'm just curious to know why all of ur sub's haven't went over and Subscribed to Keith's channel at RC Icon's? They're definitely missing out on super cool content
Who knows my friend 🤷🏼♂️
Probably the same reason that only 3k watch my videos out of 28k 🤯🤷🏼♂️
Agreed!
Can you put external spacers on them
Yeah you definitely could to stop it bottoming out I guess 😅
I got the hop up ball joint bits so I can fit the big bores….will let you know how I get on with them
Fantastic it’ll look super sweet with the big bores 🤩
Just ordered same shocks for my TD2. A year old now and still never run.
Wonder what’s next from Tamiya for TD2/4
Do they still make that motor and how much is it in US dollars?
Couldn't you just bought White springs cuz I just swore they make them I had them on a tl1 on my road car but those were short?
Have you changed your lighting is looks great now no glare
Thanks buddy I keep messing with it every video 😂
Whats the point of adding all those hop ops, only to use a brushed motor?
I thought the ball diff and the slipper clutch can be made to work together on both of them am I wrong?
It's cool that you can run a 5000 milliamp lipo in this one but could you run it in the td4?
The chassis texture looks like GRP. Is it?

I hope you'll run it at the tracks just like you should have done with the td4 please do so.
Role on part 2….👍👍
Cool
This is gonna be expensive 😂 I mean you can’t buy and build this kit now without getting all that blue bling too 😂❤️👍
Haha I have more blue bits coming 🤣
@@TAMIYALegends haha ofcourse 😊❤️
What is the stlh?
Drive it like you stole it man. 😂
You have this 😁 on your face.😂
The TD2 has almost no steering play, because of the way the servo is positioned compared to the TD4.
If you move the servo on the TD4 to the other side, with motherboard posts, you can position the servo the same way the TD2 is, and eliminate the play.
Excellent information thanks for sharing this with us my friend 😎👊🏻
😆👍
wish they had changed the mold for the rear in gear boxes to not have the 4wd stuff left on it from the TD4 kit, something about that bothers me....
I am on the fence with this one.
More dribble.😂
