Hi Glen, The turbo Ultima is based on the cars that were second and third at the 2WD 87 worlds. The diff is a ball diff the drive shafts are UJs and the upper drive gear is metal instead of plastic. Chassis is ticker metal and the screws are counter sunk. Radio plate is lighten with big cut outs. Front and rear shock towers are FRP instead of metal. It also came with a rotary MSC and a 240st motor. Love your motor collection. It’s so nice seeing all those little gems together if it were mine I would spend hours looking at them and tinkering about with them.
I never knew that. Pretty neat information. Growing up, I never paid attention to the Turbo Ultima at all. Looking at it today, I think it's quite elegant.
Absolutely a Kyosho Gem 100% , i so hope that they re -release this and a few of there other old school cars , will be a nice resto Glenn thanks for sharing these and how cool are the old style motors , now thats when they built quality which still is highly sort after in todays collections🙂
The RC Community is so awesome. All the support from people we’ve never actually met is amazing. Whether it’s a random viewer, or someone like the RC Elf, the generosity amazes me.. we had a wonderful week of gifts to our channel.. Keith donated all his leftover Falcon parts, one of my customers donated a 1987 hornet built but in the original box, and the RC Elf sent us our dream Tamiya monster truck, a Clodbuster!! I’ll say it again, The RC Community is so Awesome!!
Yes, I love the old brushed motors. I still refurbish them, turn the armitures, replacing bearings and brushes. Still use them. It's what I did when I raced. Love the collection of motors you have.
I honestly think, that the used car looks better than that new one at 13:10 ! I would just put another wing on, clean everything up, run it and put it in the cabinet...That used Turbo Optima totally made my day :)
Nice brushed motor collection. I haven't ran a brushed motor since the late 90's ,different sound and feel.....Your overall collection Glenn is really beautiful. Thanx for everything and happy rc'n
You are absolutely right,Walter, brushed motors are definitely different, but some of us older RCers prefer that different sound and feel of brushed motors.
My first competition buggy was the Turbo Ultima. Like we all did back in the 80's I modified it and no longer have the original chassis...switched to a Pro XL graphite chassis. Still have my Turbo Ultima to this day...actually gonna race it this weekend in a vintage class. First time racing since 89! Should be interesting! The weak part of the car is the steering set up...too much slop in the servo saver . Yours example looks to be in very good shape. Missing the motor guard and the front shock tower looks aftermarket . Awesome motor! Wish parts were easy to find for these old cars and I'm disappointed in Kyosho for not making all the parts for the recent release compatible with the original. Great video! Keep em coming!
Great video Glenn. I think the re-visit was worth it. The changes turned down the gold and brought subtle contrast in really good way. Sometimes, less is more 🙂
Wow, talk about a trip down memory lane. My first car was a Kyosho Sideways, stripped of the sprint car body and running the Turbo Ultima body. Aside from the lower end components such as the plastic upper deck, plastic shocks, it looked pretty close to that car.
Absolutely love this car we’ll both cars these two kits are in my mind from way back from childhood are what 2wd and 4wd buggies should be!!! Had both long ago and after watching this am going to be looking to get one!👍😁
Top car 👌 from memory it's got a limited slip dif . I've still got the manual. So will have a look if you want . Plus can take photos of specific pages too if needed . I'm away for a couple days now. But give me a nudge monday evening ok Cheers John
Awesome Glenn. I have one of these in bits. I bought it just after I got back into the hobby. I got my first Ultima in 1987, owned it for a couple years then it got stolen. Once I got back into RC I just had to have one again.
I really love my Ultima ReRe... it would be cool if they do a Turbo Ultima or some other 2wd ReRe kits... The one you've got there looks pretty awesome as it is... making the wheels a bit nicer looking, some repro rear tires, and maybe a set of ReRe Ultima front tires...and a new wing?....if it were me I would stop there if it's just for display..that body looks OK to me. I really do hope Kyosho keeps pumping out more Legendary Series cars, as well as batches of the ones they've already released, and parts... they're such awesome kits...
Turbo Ultima has hard anodized chassis, sway bars, fully ballraced, Platinum shocks, ball diff, different shock towers, different chrome plated wheels.
With Kyosho that change in chassis color and any of their aluminum parts usually that gunmetal color means a harder/higher grade of aluminum was used vs the standard silver aluminum
Hi Glenn, you're right to go for refurbing the wheels. They are proper rare items. One ebay seller has had a _new_ set available for a while but at >$100 per pair if I remember correctly. I had a decent result by spraying my old set of Kyosho RS200 wheels (the same as the Ultima rears but in white). I used Revell Acrylic Steel (34191) for my Avante Black build. Will send you a couple of pics if you're keen.
Krylon Fusion Chrome plating paint. Five to six coats, let dry for 10 days (it's a soft paint). works great. (Krylon K01010A07 but they might not sell it in Canada.)
Very nice! I found a reproduction body of this so I might get one for my rere. I have a couple of vintage Kyosho buggies coming for my collection. So keep an eye on my Instagram.
I have never drove one, but I have always known of these. I do have a uncomplete orginal Ultima which has a broken front bulkhead. Also missing the radio plate. Where can I get these parts?
front tower is defiantly wrong, it should be lower between the actual vertical parts and have a built in body mount the plastic mount on the radio plate was not used, its hard to tell from the video but the front shocks themselves seem too long. and just a fyi to your nothing gets better than the platinum shocks comment, back in the day kyosho team drivers would swap them out for kyosho gold shocks which preform better
hmm i bought 2 kits in late 85 turbo ultima's both are 4wd chain drive. not a expert but i built these myself back then , there is no wing , and i believe is still have the boxes they came in. only have a few other kyosho cars, but i see they have many variants. being in and out of the hobby for decades ,now with the internet you see and find out things , its looking like my sticker sheet may have been wrong they are optima's not ultima's

Thanks again my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Weirdly the metal gear was worse than the plastic. Bit like the ones in tamiya top force.
I never knew that. Pretty neat information.
Growing up, I never paid attention to the Turbo Ultima at all. Looking at it today, I think it's quite elegant.
I dig the turbo Ultima box art - for whatever reason I obsessed over this car in the tower hobbies catalog like no other. Looks like an easy refurb 👍
Yeah it was never on my radar but have to agree Wade 🤩👊🏻

Turbo Ultima is the best looking 2WD IMO, brother had one new and it killed my Falcon at everything. Drove brilliant and looks even better!! So cool
Fantastic thanks for watching my friend 🤩👊🏻

Way to go, RC community!

There’s just something so special about them 😍
Indeed, there is something special about them, which is why I will continue to tinker with my brushed motors as well.
Wish I had friends like yours Glenn! 👍👍
Well I’m very grateful 👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 I would be too! 👍👍
I'm not to proud to admit, I'm definitely a Kyosho fan boy ,
my all time fav. this and the Falcon. we NEED a re-re of both this year. However, the Mrs. would not be happy at all. hehe.
Haha one for you and one for her 😇👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 Maybe so, but hers may have to be painted pink. And that's disgraceful. Especially for a TU. Hehe
I so very much love the Turbo Ultima. Looks fast sitting still! Big props to your bud for sending it to you! We know you will restore it proper.
Thanks buddy 🤩👊🏻

Hey thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment my friend 🤩👊🏻
Another great video….. problem is I now want to start collecting Kyosho now 😮. Thank Glenn 😂
Haha go on, you know you want too 🤩👊🏻
My first rc car!
Turbo Ultima has hard anodized chassis, sway bars, fully ballraced, Platinum shocks, ball diff, different shock towers, different chrome plated wheels.
Top information thank you 😎👊🏻
Nice turbo Ultima, you have an amazing collection of motors there, and cars. Thanks for sharing. 👍also the optima mid looks awesome.
Thank you my friend, it’s taken awhile to put them together but well worth it 😎👊🏻
Always loved the turbo umtima
Ultima
Yeah I only really ever new the original, so to now have both versions 1&2 is awesome my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Lovely stuff, how banged up is the body? Looked good in the pictures, and a bit of patina shows some character 👌😉
Yeah I few have said the same, maybe I’ll just replace the wing 🧐🤷🏼♂️
Still only got my first Kyosho to build.. the Turbo Scorpion.
Who knows what will happen Kyosho wise in the future... some do look great
Turbo Scorpion 🤩🤩🤩
Great looking cars Glenn. Wouldn't mind seeing another motor video. The display looks incredible!
Thanks Jon 🤩👊🏻
Nice addition to your collection, im sure it will turn out great 👍
Thank you 😊
Living the dream
Thanks Karl 🤩👊🏻
I had a Demon Modified in my original 1987 Ultima!
TBH I forgot about the Ultima and it being 2wd, but OMG those motors are sweet. I would definitely love another video on them😁👍👍👊
Thanks Wayne 🤩👊🏻

Very cool and I am looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with it> I am sure it will be mint once you are finished with it!
Haha fingers crossed my fingers 😅😅😅
Motor update video inbound then Glenn 👌💪👍🔥🔥🔥 also need another boomerang in the collection Glenn 😜
Haha I definitely want two boomerangs 😇 one standard and one with the Winger body 🤩👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 100% 👌
Nice! I'd put that motor in your motor collection, then put something else back in the Ultima.
Oh yeah it’s in the motor display now Matt 😅👊🏻
Krylon Fusion Chrome plating paint. Five to six coats, let dry for 10 days (it's a soft paint). works great. (Krylon K01010A07 but they might not sell it in Canada.)

Super cool......

@@RCLegends2022 😎👍
Glenn if planning to run the car make sure you get a replacement top deck as the car has no strength at the front without it
Cheers Lee 😎👊🏻
Turbo ultima chassis was a slightly thicker metal than the original ultima had, differentiated by the colour change.
Excellent thanks for the feedback 😎👊🏻
Kyosho should come out with it again.
Fingers crossed 😇😇😇

Outstanding looking forward to seeing them 🤩👊🏻
Cool video 👍
Thanks buddy 😎👊🏻
Turbo had sway bars aswell I think
Nice 😊
Amazing car! What is the company you reference for the tires?
I am looking for tires for my vintage Kyosho Cosmo
I'm hoping this is next in the legendary releases
Fingers crossed David 😇😇😇
I wonder if Kyosho might re-release the Turbo Ultima again? Thoughts?
Oh I hope we see everything done again 😇😇😇
I have never drove one, but I have always known of these.
I do have a uncomplete orginal Ultima which has a broken front bulkhead.
Also missing the radio plate.
Where can I get these parts?
another great video, just a keep question where do you buy the motor stands from? would love to buy some for mine. TIA
Type in zippo lighter stands into eBay 😅👊🏻

hmm i bought 2 kits in late 85 turbo ultima's both are 4wd chain drive. not a expert but i built these myself back then , there is no wing , and i believe is still have the boxes they came in. only have a few other kyosho cars, but i see they have many variants. being in and out of the hobby for decades ,now with the internet you see and find out things , its looking like my sticker sheet may have been wrong they are optima's not ultima's
The radio tray and shock towers always failed on me and the mechanical speed control was a disaster that melted down when you looked at it wrong.
The KingCab will be finished. 😊
Yeah one day lol 😂
Hey Glenn...bit off topic...are you ever going to build or review a pro cat?
Ask Keith about it.
👍👍😊
Thanks buddy 😎
Is the turbo optima on the right a re-release?
Yes it is James 👊🏻
@@RCLegends2022 Thanks brother.
Use one of the motors.
What about tires?
Marwan 😇
Is Turbo Ultima between Ultima and Ultima Pro?
😎😎
how much does this model go for?
first?
Yes you are, thanks as always for watching Matt 😎👊🏻
