In fairness this guy has more talent than most of the recent Top Gear presenters combined, not quite Clarkson calibre yet but the potential is there and let's face it we are probably going to need a replacement sometime in the not too distant future as the big fella has taken to playing around with tractors.
@@heldermonteiro2718 there were quite a few beautiful coupés from the 00s, Audi TT, Alfa Romeo GTV, GT and Brera the Fiat Coupé, Honda Integra, Peugeot RCZ, Porsche Cayman etc..
Audi TT Mk1s are one of my favorite looking cars ever. I just bought a 2001 roadster in amazing condition in nimbus grey. It’s art. It drives better than my old boxster (Porsche) did, the interior design is just as gorgeous as exterior. It sounds great and love the turbo.
Same here except 1 mile after I hit 100k I've been getting low oil pressure. Changed out the oil pump which was only changed 10k miles before but its been fine ever since
These are a good fun car to drive, look amazing too. I used to travel the country in mine and it was quite a good mile muncher. I used the back seats as a storage compartment.
Apparently the Audi TT was a “concept car,” not intended to go into production. As a result, the proud owners of the TT possessed a car which was “over engineered.” Lucky them!
Really depends what want to mod (and what you declare). For example an exhaust might raise it £50 or so, while something bigger like a suspension, turbos and remaps would raise it quite a lot more
Ive owned a 190bhp TT for the last 7 years. A great car suits me perfectly. plenty of poke and plenty of carrying capacity when you fold the back seats down . Plus a lot of aluminium was used so the car is no rot box. Thats why theres so many left on the roads . And the engine with regular oil changes will do 200k miles before you need to retire it .plenty available priced from only £1k or £2k alough id pay a little more and get a nice one .
I have a TTQS, done over 210k miles and still going strong. Had t 17 years and love it! Does need money spending to get it top nick but a car for its age, I still get 'nice car'.. in fact someone wanted to buy it off me not long back. I said no!
What are some common problems you had with it over the years ? I found a mk1 1.8l 180hp with 250000 km about 156000miles but i don’t know if its a good idea
@@El_Pertita of course all will be different, but, I had someone want to buy it again yesterday lol.. even with 217k miles on it since posting.. the dash has lost some pixels, I get the temperature warning sign come up on starting cold mornings, but goes off a few minutes into starting.. I actually cant think of anything major apart from those two things
I'm about to bring my 225 back to life (2001 model) already done a load of work, shift fork/gearbox issue sorted, new clutch, remap and big filter - pulled 271bhp! still on the original exhaust! hopefully she'll pass the mot.
Thanks John! These shades are actually off Amazon 😂 I bought them for a shoot a few years ago and I think I remember paying like £10-15 for them! They’re only fake plastic ones but they do work. Hopefully that’s answered your question
Nice video bro. How many miles to these typically last until they need serious work? Been looking at one from 2003 but it’s got 120k on the clock… Think it’ll still be reliable?
Thanks Nathan! It depends on how well you look after it, bit like most classic cars. I’d say 120k is okay but I’d recommend you find one with a little less miles on it just so you know you can enjoy it before they go wrong. This one had about 110k miles on it and there were a few minor problems with it. It depends on your preference! Hope this helped :)
@@CarCultureClub Thanks for the reply mate, it was helpful - I went off and bought a roadster with 80k miles instead. Even though lots of people hate the convertible model I think it’s great. Gonna have to test it on the roads in the video, I live just round the corner haha 😄
@@nathanskingley ahh that’s fantastic news, congrats on the purchase! I think the convertible is still great, you’ll be able to get the roof down when the weather starts getting better! Do you live locally then?
@@CarCultureClub thank you mate! Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, plus it drives great too. I do yeah about a 5 minute drive from where you filmed this, funny that 😅
Year later but from my experience… it’s a quick car for your first car if you modify it. Probably too fast. Get one that’s been well maintained, I bought a decent low mileage one but have spent 2-3k getting it up to scratch due to things I should have checked. I’ve had a lot of quick cars but I really love my 225. It’s still very quick with a remap and some bolt on mods and very practical considering the size.
Have owned a 2004 255 coupe and a 2001 roadster - both lovely , expensive to maintain though. Went on to own a mk3 TT for 6 years and enjoyed that too. Fun review - cheers from Brisbane
Excellent review and you sold me the car. I was looking for a E46 but can’t afford that right now. I have only been a passenger but I’m getting one on Thursday hopefully 🙏🏽
Love to hear it :) just make sure you do your research into common issues to look out for with these cars! They’re great until things go wrong - Audi don’t make these easy to work on (like pretty much all of their cars 🥲)
My friend wants to trade me his 2000 tt 1.8 for my 2001 330ci 3.0 5 speed... Only thing is he don't have a spoiler on it.. I have a wing on mine that's universal... Should I do the trade?
Im thinking to buy one but im concerned about the reliability is it as bad as people say? because i've heard a lot, and which one is better the roadster or the coupe?
Well as a 21 year old car you get what you get. Some people get unlucky but I believe the owner of this one has barely anything go wrong with it, even compared some way more modern cars. Some typical things are oil leaks and boost leaks but both are easy fixes in the grand scheme of things. The Coupe definitely looks 100X better but a lot of people like the roadster as a summer car. Hope this helped!
I got 02’ BAM since 20 years ago when I was under 20, my 1st driving L & my first TTQ and I’m still driving in as Daily now along with another sometimes 05’ R53 and 16’ S1 I can tell this TT is reliable enough if we care enough, I have no big issue with except : I replaced DV(OE) with 034 DV, 2 rear Struts with Bilstein, 2 front shocks mounting rubber and 1x Timing belt, 2x driver belt/ serpentine, 1x reservoir coolant , twice of flushing coolants, twice spark plugs and changing engine oil every 5-6K with 5-40 Mobil 1 that’s all and No MOD than basic 225HP
im 185cm and i fit comfy inside my mk1, id say its fairly roomy actually, you can get the seat quite low which is nice, i had peeps over 190cm in the passenger seat and still no issue, but the rears are, well, basically unusable, thats why i took em out haha
hahahahha I look like that when driving my TT......ray bans are de rigueur, of course. The statue is wellington so my old stomping ground of Aldershot and fleet maybe, i remember it with more cars😂
thats not even a BAM but then of course you got the r32/vr6 destroked 3.0 turbo. its a bit boxter at the front but looks more 911 from the side and back

The Mk1 TT is a piece of art. I enjoyed looking at mine as much as driving it.

Sees cheapest Mk1 TT in Germany, buys it

Based on the look only, I hv always loved MK1 TT more than the later gens, cuter yet fierce looking.
Love my 2003 Quattro Roadster… strictly stock, never any problems… a joy to drive… just turned 84K.
No problems in... 84k!?!?!
Wow!
Amazing that a car can be reliable for less miles than most manufacturer's warranty.

oil dipstick guide tube broke… made of plastic and not metal… otherwise the usual digital gauge cluster failed… about $380 to fix

Helluva price. Considering one rn at $3500.
Totally in love with my 2001 225 roadster .

What did the modifications do to the insurance costs ? I know it’s a boring mundane sort of question but it is important.
