Christmas dog treat challenge fail!! (and why I expect it to 😁).

- At this time of year, we see a lot of dog treats challenges come up - placing food on your dogs nose, paws, spelling out words etc.
I've never done them with my dogs, and in this video I'll show you why.
The exception would be my cocker spaniel as a child - yes I could place treats on him, could I have called out leave it on the beach with a dead fish, or a child's dropped biscuit?
Absolutely no way!
There's the irony - because he didn't have a really 100% leave it cue was why I could do this.
For my dogs, leave it means just that - I could drop food, or tablets and use the words, they wouldn't touch it.
They have really strong waits - I can leave both whilst I go to the loo, go and do something else, and they'll still be there.
Why?
Because I've rewarded them in that wait time and time again, coming back to offer food as a well done.
That's exactly why I can't use wait, then expect to put a piece of food towards my dogs mouth and not have them eat it.
I love a lot of the challenges at this time of year, but these ones aren't for us 🙂
Decide what's most important for you, and for me with areas I walk my dogs leaving a snake, poisonous plant, unstable river edge etc is far more important!
