Thanks for your reaction- Voice Play does rock covers so well! Legendary band, 'Chicago", members saw this cover and liked it so much they reached out to Voice Play and Voice Play sang two concerts with them back in November.
Eli used to be with several different rock bands at Universal Studios Orlando before he joined Voiceplay.
Believe it or not he had long frizzy black hair.
Voiceplay gave this song a new genre... Metallicapella.
When's he's not actually singing lyrics, Geoff is pretending he's a bass guitar - except he keeps forgetting and going lower than he's supposed to!
Friends On the Other Side is a great one feat J None!
The first J. None/Cesar song, wasn't it? I have a playlist of all the songs that have both of them in it. It's my favorite Voiceplay lineup!

This song is so taylor made for Eli that they put him in the center chair, a spot usually reserved for the featured singer
The tribute they gave to the Black Album with the clothing, and stage setup was perfect. When this first came out, so many people on RUclips was convinced an acapella group could not do Metallica. I think nearly all of them changed their mind after hearing what VoicePlay did with it. Loved Geoff who had written music for the "guitar" solo checked with Layne about doing it as the violin solo; hence VioLayne made his second appearance over the course of 23 yrs. Warriors was the first and The Lion Sleeps Tonight is the 3rd. After hearing VoicePlay do this, I looked up Metallica's original. I'll take VP - it is so beautiful.
VioLayne is always a delight. This is one of VoicePlay's masterpieces.

This is the VoicePlay A Team as far as I’m concerned. I’m hoping so much that J. None returns to a full-time role with them once his enlistment with the Navy is finished. And VioLayne! How great is he?!
My favourite VP cover... (second favourite is "In the Air Tonight" (Phil Collins) - which is a Layne arrangement). On this one, Eli did the lighting and obviously loved being the rock god that he is!! Geoff arranged this one (and where is his Grammy?! 😉). Layne is amazing - so much talent. J None re-earned his title of Mr Smooth... Cesar brings all the motion and feels... The one that arranges usually also directs the video - so wearing black was probably a nod from Geoff to the "Black" album. We are begging them to do more of these! They are soooo talented, very humble, but so incredibly talented - and we are here for it. 🌹🕊
This is still my favorite. The song itself is beautiful, but I especially like Geoff's arrangement of this acapella version. I can't tell by detail, but it feels kind of 'perfect' to me. The build-ups, the layers, the unexpected variations... I love truly everything in this song. 🥰

It seems to me we didn't get more than flashes of Rock God Eli until Earl left. I'm not sure if there's a connection, but Eli has really been upping his Rocker game these past few years. Their version of this song is one of my very favorites! And VioLayne is always a treat! Hmmm, have you done "Warriors" yet? Earl was still with the group. It's the first time we saw VioLayne, and there's an extra surprise in there too.
Yes! You will love Voice Play's cover of "Warriors".
They didn’t really start pushing into rock until around the time Earl left. Previously, they were more Disney and top tens with a scattering of pop/rock.
All the harder stuff, like this, Dream On, Seven Nation Army…all of that is post Earl. The hardest rocking thing I think they did with Earl was the Queen melody, and Eli went off on his part there.

Geoff is always so impressive with his bas lines. That song was on Metallica's Black Album. Attention to detail. Always.

Eli put out his first rock video (with his original song) while he was in Japan with Universal Studios. Even after he joined Voiceplay, in his off time he performed with a Journey cover band.
With Eli doing more of the arrangements this year I think you can look forward to a range of rock covers. (Maybe starting this month!)

I love this cover but I also love the theatrical covers they do. I don’t think it takes away from the vocals at all. That’s like saying you’d rather listen to instead of watching The Lion King. This song required no costumes. It’s Metallica!

Cesar was a bit underutilized in this but he does do that Banshee Shriek just before VioLane take over.
Saw an interesting observation not long after this came out that although he wasn't prominently featured vocally, Cesar was very instrumental in helping set the tone for this one. He's usually so animated and vivacious, his stillness and seriousness here was really striking--some of us were actually a little worried when we first saw it because it came across as _so_ uncharacteristic.
Well, it's been confirmed multiple times that the highest banshee was not Cesar this time... It wasn't even supposed to be that high but Eli thought the song needed it and sang it that way. 😂

I can't believe that I just now noticed you're not wearing headphones. When you're reacting to the acapella groups you have to have headphones otherwise you're missing layers of music just try it for a song of voice play Pentatonix you've already reacted to with headphones or earbuds and I think you'll notice there's a big difference
