    Oh!! From left to right:
Geoff Castelucci (super bass but has a huge range) Has his own channel where he clones himself for the harmonies
J None (baritone) - former member serving and singing in the Navy now but comes back as a feature
Eli Jacobson (tenor) amazing rock voice, pronounced Elly, like Jelly
Cesar De La Rosa (Baritone/Tenor) Super sweet voice and amazing personality
Layne Stein - (baritone/beatboxer) Yes, he sings sometimes and we’ve seen “VioLayne” 3 times now
Geoff and Layne arrange most of the songs. This one was Geoff. They are independent so no worries of getting a copyright strike, they are reactor friendly.
You can’t go wrong with any of their covers so just dive in and pick what strikes you next! ❤

Welcome to the #Voiceplay family!! You're in for an amazing ride!! From left to right, you have Geoff Castellucci - low bass, but get ready for the 5 octave range - he arranged Nothing Else Matters and about 50% of their releases - and he has his own solo channel which is just as amazing. Next is J. None the smoooooth baritone - used to be full time in the group but now sings for the Navy and comes back as a featured singer regularly. In the middle is Eli Jacobson (pronounced ELLE E, not E-Lie) - high rock god tenor voice - does all the lighting and sometimes arrangements, Cesar (C-Zar) De La Rosa is 2nd from right also with smooth baritone voice but can go for the highest notes as he does in Voiceplay's version of Dream On. And the man of many talents on the far right is Layne Stein (VioLayne) who arranges 50% of the releases and beat boxes and plays violin and sings baritone and covers bass when Geoff is taking lead. Voiceplay does EVERYTHING themselves. No record label. All the arrangements, the production, the lighting, the behind the scenes stuff we see on Patreon. You'll want to watch all videos all the way to the end as they often put little bits when the credits are rolling. You will enjoy Voiceplay releases of Valhalla Calling, Hellfire, Hoist the Colours, Seven Nation Army, Warriors, Dragonborn Comes, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Enemy, Halo Theme, Dream On, Hall of the Mountain King, If I were a Rich Man / Girl, 21 Pilots Mashup, .... this just gets you started. Enjoy the ride!!

We love hearing the guys over and over again!

Voiceplay is one of the three main a capella groups, but they are completely independent. They do their arrangements, songs, videos, lighting etc, themselves.
They have the widest genre range - so choose your genre, pick a song and go for it... they never, ever disappoint!
My personal favourite genres are their rock songs ("Carry on Wayward Son" (Kansas), "Dream On" (Aerosmith), "In the Air Tonight" (Phil Collins)

It's not obvious from this video, but VoicePlay is the most theatrically-inclined of the major acapella groups. They do a lot of Broadway-type stuff (Phantom, Rich Man, Wicked, etc.), a lot of Disney stuff (Bruno, Little Mermaid, etc.), and sometimes they just do theatrical stuff of their own, e.g., using a medley of songs to tell an original story (e.g., Queen in 5 Minutes). They often have amazingly good costumes and make-up and so forth, and they're voice actors, so they can really get into character. The theatrics generally come out in an especially big way in their Halloween stuff, but you can also see it at other times.
Another thing you didn't see much here: they are total goofballs sometimes, and it is hilarious. See e.g. Drunken Sailor, Mountain King.
The thing that will eventually impress you about VoicePlay, though, is how every single person they ever work with (and they have featured guest singers quite often) is amazingly talented. Again and again and again, when picking talent, they just do not miss.
Layne (the vocal percussionist) does get to sing occasionally. He has a couple of lines of the lead in their latest, Lion Sleeps Tonight, for instance.

Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. An amazingly talented group. If you are in a rock mood right now you may want to check out their cover of 7Nation Army, In the Air Tonight, or Dream On. Since the are an independent group and aren't restricted by any kind of contract they do a wide array of genres. All of them are done well.

I think Pentatonix kind of started the bass craze when they had Avi Kaplan-he could hit incredibly low notes (he also did overtones). He went off for a solo career (check him out-start with Change on the Rise). Their new bass is terrific, too, but Geoff and Tim Foust from Home Free are kind of the bass masters nowadays. There’s also The Bass Gang-FOUR low bass singers. You should definitely check them all out.
As for more Voiceplay-just point and click. I haven’t heard a song by them that wasn’t fantastic. If you’re a gamer they do have a cover of the Halo theme, and also The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim.

Left to right, Geoff Castellucci, J None, featured baritone but he was with Voiceplay from 2018 to 2021 when he was recruited by the US Navy, Eli (pronounced ellie) Jacobson, Cesar de la Rosa, replaced J None in 2021, Layne Stein, beat boxer, sweet baritone, and VioLayne. Their high tenor left in 2020 and has not been replaced. As you saw Eli can sing first tenor and in their most recent release Cesar sang up to D6. Last year they also did Creep and Drunken Sailor. Those will give you an idea of the variety they can do. This one and Drunken Sailor are Geoff's arrangement, Creep is Eli's. The most recent is The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Layne's arrangement. They release a new ones every month plus two or three shorts. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay.

VoicePlay are awesome and I'm so glad you've discovered them. You're in for a treat if you keep listening. I highly recommended Hoist the Colors, Valhalla Calling, Druken sailor, The Dragonborn Comes (from Skyrim), In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Oogie Boogie's Song (from The Nightmare Before Christmas). You should also definitely check out the bass singer, Geoff Castellucci, who has a solo channel with loads of amazing songs that really show off his vocal range.

I just subscribed seeing your reaction to VoicePlay. They all masters of their craft, but greater than the sum of their parts. They each have a mind-blowing range and do their own producing and arranging. They have been scouted out to sign on a label, but they so far have refused, because they want to make music their own way.
Left to right - Geoff, the earth shaking bass, producer and arranger. J None, the smooth , bluesy feature. Currently in the Navy, who drops by frequently to sing with his guys. Eli (rhymes with jelly) the rock god lead, who produces and programs lighting, and is a recent Dad. Cesar, the angelic voiced emoter. Layne, who does occasionally sing with a beautiful voice, also human drum kit, violayne player who also produces and arranges, Ang carrot lord of the group.
So please, dive into the rabbit hole who is VoicePlay. And buckle up, buttercup, for a wild ride that is "their own brand of dumb" and genius! 🤗🤗🤗

Hi Nick, Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. You have found yourself a one of a kind totally original acapella group. Voice Play are known as The Theater Kids of Acapella. They cover every genre of music. If someone says it can't be done, Voice Play will prove them wrong every time. They are short one member who left the group due to medical reasons. They always fill the spot with a featured guest. Sometimes a female as in "The Little Mermaid" song they cover & "If I Were A Rich Man / Girl" from Fiddler on The Roof. One of their best is "Queen In 5 Minutes " were they do a medley of Queen songs ( done in a theatrical way ). Also "Dream On" originally by Aerosmith & "Carry On Wayward Son" originally by Kansas. Voice Play blew these out of the ball park. They always stick to the original while adding their own special twist. I will be joining you as a new member. Please keep Voice Play on your list. One more thing, never look away from them. You just may miss something unique they do . Always wait until the credits are done rolling before exiting any of their video's. Sometimes they add a little something special.

Hi from another Brit and very much a Voiceplayer. Pentatonics and Voiceplay are both acapella but very different. I would say Pentatonics is more pure song and Voiceplay as thier name suggests really play with what is possible with the voice.
They have done a fair bit of stuff around the rock genra and Eli used to sing in a rock band when he lets his rock tenor out full throttle you can tell ! Geoff as you have found out is inhuman but such a lovely guy at the same time. He is a dragon in Dragonborn cames and some form of viking demon in Vallhalla calling and of course you need to hear him on his own channel. I love I see fire from the Hobbit with his "brothers" because it shows how versatile his is. You are going to love the sounds that Layne and indeed some of the others come out with, Try Halo or Hall of the Mountain King or indeed Seven Nation Army.
Dont miss thier Disney stuff either, most recently they did Hellfire form the hunchback of Notre Dame which is the darkest villain song in a Disney film and i love we don't talk about Bruno.
    Basically you cant go wrong.

One of my favorite things: watching someone discover VoicePlay! They are incredibly creative and talented, with amazing vocals. They don't really have a genre... rock to pop to Broadway to Disney to downright silly (see The Lion Sleeps Tonight) - they do it all. Their style is completely different from both PTX or Home Free. All 3 are great!

VoicePlay is the #TheatreKidsOfACapella. Singing everything from Metallica to Disney. They are totally independent. They do everything themselves, arrangements, directing, filming, editing, lighting, sets, props, and costumes. They have total control of their content. Left to Right Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci Bass, J. None Baritone is a featured past member who joined the U.S. Navy in 2021 and comes back when he can sing with the boys. Next are Eli (Ellie) Jacobson, Rock Tenor, Cesar De Ka Rosa Baritone, Layne Stein, Beatboxer, Baritone, and VioLayne. Geoff has his own channel where he does LOW BASS covers.

If you want to compare how PTX and Voiceplay approach a song, they both have done their version of "Creep" by Radiohead. They both did their version at about the same time within the last year. Take a listen and judge for yourself.

    Left to right:
    Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci -- Bass
J.None -- guest, former member, baritone, currently sings bass with the US Navy
Eli (Ellie) Jacobson -- Tenor 1
Cesar De La Rosa -- Tenor 2/Baritone
    Layne Stein -- Vocal Percussion/Baritone/Violin
While I listed what vocal parts they sing, realistically any of them can sing any part. All of them have at least a four octave range, with Geoff's recorded range being five octaves.
You can't go wrong with any of their stuff. You'll find over the years they've changed members with Geoff and Layne being the only founding members left, but given that they've been together since 1997, that's not unexpected. They are completely independent, which gives them complete artistic freedom.
This song was arranged by Geoff. Geoff and Layne are their primary arrangers/videographers, with Eli doing the lights and backgrounds though he's recently started doing more arranging as well.

Geoff: sings in the lower half of the middle of his range
    Reactor: So low!
    Me: 😆
Bro, you haven’t heard Geoff go low yet.
Layne did sing here - he was doing the high harmony before he dropped the beat. He sometimes does grab a few lines - which I love because he’s got a beautiful voice - but he’s usually busy with the beat.
Their most recent track was a cover of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and Layne took a solo there. They also got a tad silly in that vid; give it a go. There are a few laughs there.
They’ve done quite a few other songs you wouldn’t expect could work as a cappella. They include, but aren’t limited to
    Aerosmith’s Dream On
Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight
White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army (Geoff goes somewhat lower here than he did in Nothing Else Matters)
    Radiohead’s Creep
Also, you may want to find Geoff Castellucci’s solo channel. He does four and five part harmonies all by himself. Because he’s got that much range.
VoicePlay and Geoff as a solo both drop a new vid every month. (Usually. They will take off a month sometimes but it’s rare). So they’ll keep you well supplied. 😊

Voice play is a phenomenal acapella group. What they cover is as extensive as their talent. They do sometimes feature female artists and some of their collaborations. Mainly they are a 4 man quartet, though. If I were a rich man/girl and we don't talk about Bruno Features the incredible Ashley Diane. The little mermaid medley and the moana medley features The impressive Rachel Potter. We're good and good for you features the amazing adriana Arellano (really hope I didn't butcher that spelling).
    And that's just to start.
The base artist, whose name is geoff castellucci Has his own channel where he does his own solo stuff. Which I highly recommend to check out. You can really see him so case. His range and over the misty mountains cold, i see fire and blackbird.
Prepare to have your brain melt inside your skull from trying to comprehend what they do in their arrangements. Out of this world.

I don't know if you've heard the third of the top a cappella groups, Home Free. The three groups are friends and have worked together in some fashion in several videos, whether its a member of one group appearing in another group's video or helping in the songs arrangement. (Note: each group has several videos with messages or outtakes after the song and before the patreon list. Please assume there is something there and keep watching. My favorite example of this is "Ain't No Sunshine" on the pond at dusk by Austin Brown, who is high tenor for Home Free.) Okay, Nick, I'm going to blow your mind with a little bit of trivia about VoicePlay - specifically, Geoff Castellucci, the man on the left who amazed you with his low tones. And here it is: Geoff doesn't consider himself a true bass singer, he thinks of himself as a baritone with a "good bass extension". From a man who has had professional opera singers describe his deep voice as "stupid low"!

    • @bignickreacts

  • @jeancaldwell5391

I loved how amazed you were at Geoff’s earth-shaking bass! The dominant three a cappella groups originally had super-low basses. Home Free still has Tim Foust and VoicePlay still has Geoff, of course. One of the original members of Pentatonix was also a member of that exclusive group, Avi Kaplan. Matt, who replaced Avi in 2018, is a very fine bass and has a terrific range, but isn’t a basso profundo like Avi is. And if you do want to hear some more earth-shaking lows, check out Avi’s solo channel. You will also see Avi in PTX music up through most of 2017. Avis is the one with a beard, and usually a beanie. All of the three basso profundo are excellent, and they each have their own incredible sound.

Welcome to VoicePlay and the VoicePlayas! Geoff is certainly a force of nature with that mega-low bass voice. His lowest is in "Valhalla Calling" (a B0, the 2nd white key on the piano) which is my favorite by them so far, very powerful, totally rock out to that song. Geoff, J.None, Eli, Cesar, and Layne are amazing. Eli (like "jelly") used to sing in a Metallica cover band, so he's got the rock grit tenor for metal songs, and he's really been using it lately. ("Dream On" is awesome.) They often bring in guest singers, so we get different styles from them, something for everyone.

  • @abbienormals1669

7:14 You'll want to listen to VoicePlay's background vocals. Geoff (the bass) has been providing some background vocals from the beginning but it blended in. Just keep in mind, acapella is all (or mostly in this case) done with voices. So everything you hear from groundshaking lows to wild 'drum' beats is done by voices and mouth/body sounds.

Welcome to the VoicePlay magical rabbit hole! Yes, they have similarities to Pentatonix (like outstanding voices), but they are very different. I'll toss two more names at you... Home Free and Voctave. These four groups are the absolute best a cappella artists you can find right now. They are equally amazing, but in different ways. My personal favorite has become VoicePlay. I also love the other three. Geoff (Mr. Low Tones) has, in my opinion, the best sounding super-low range. There ARE others that can go a little bit lower, but they just don't have Geoff's sound quality. Geoff also has his own channel where he performs multiple vocal tracks... he sings his own harmonies. You might check him out as well. I really enjoyed your reaction! As someone else mentioned, we love watching reactors experience VoicePlay for the first time.... and then watching as they dig deeper into the VoicePlay archives. Great reaction! Best of luck!

    And VioLayne breaks another reactor.
    Left to right....
Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci - bass, arrangements.
J None - baritone, guest, former member.
Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting, arrangements.
Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor.
Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements.
Any video you choose from Voiceplay you can't go wrong with. They're all fantastic.
Their latest video is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Also with J None. It is so much fun.
They go back 8+ years in just about every genre. They are known as both The Theater Kids of Acapella and The Kings of Halloween because of their love of dressing up and performing.
At present there are only 4 members so they collaborate with various artists for the 5th. So depending on the time of the video is who is singing in it. But you will always see Geoff, Layne and Eli.
They just released their February video on their Patreon today. It is out of this world fantastic. It will probably be released on RUclips close to Valentine's but don't quote me on it.
Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-3 times for harmonies. Each with their own name and personality.... Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl.
He also has a lot of fantastic videos to choose from.
His latest video is "Blue Christmas".

Mr. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci is the Bass with 5 octaves reach (no joke), his livelong friend Laney Stein (beatboxing and violin) and Geoff co founded the group. Eli (like Jelly without j) Jacobson is the first tenor (bald guy), The second singer is Mr. J. None (momentarily in the Navy top choir) was a member (Tenor to bariton). The guy with the mop of hair ( SORRY Cesar) and the angelic voice is Tenor to bariton and a fun guy. Thea have guest singers, when J. None is working. They pick their singers very well. They are also called "the theater kids of a capella". You might enjoy rheir version of "The dragon born comes" from Skyrim. ruclips.net/video/6ys4Q1PO5ek/видео.html

If you want a couple of songs that are just a lot of fun to watch, and very different in tone from this one, try "Oogie Boogie's Song" from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" which they released just a week ago. These are the theatre kids of the a capella world, often dressing up in wonderful costumes, with perfect backdrops and props. They currently have four full time members, whom other fans have named below, and they regularly invite other singers to come sing with them. Anthony Gargiula was featured in "Wellerman" and "Seven Nation Army"; José Rosario Jr. sang with them on "Drunken Sailor" and "Hoist the Colors" (from Pirates of The Caribbean); Rachel Potter joined them for "The Greatest Showman Medley" and "The Little Mermaid Medley." And that's just a few of their guests. J. None, who is featured in this one, is a former member, now singing in the U.S. Navy choir, who comes back to sing with them whenever he can. And former member Scott Porter, who left the group several years ago to pursue an acting career, joined them for "Halo," as a tribute to a friend who had passed away.

Like you I found Voiceplay from Pentatonix. I feel like the main difference between the two groups is PTX blends their harmonies together to sound more like a choir or as close to one voice as possible whereas Voiceplay harmonizes of each other letting each voice stand out without letting the music fall apart. They write their music, I’ve heard, for what their voices sound like, rather than what they want it to sound like (if that makes sense). They seem to keep pushing their boundaries and doing new things, but they have also built up quite a range as well. If I remember correctly Geoff has a 5 octave range.

  • @christinestromberg4057

With VoicePlay you'll have a lot to see as they cover so many different genres. They are in a league of their own in that respect, as an a capella group, being theatrical in many of their videos. There used to be three major acapella groups with a low bass, PTX had Avi, but he left to go solo, Home Free with Tim, and VoicePlay with Geoff Castellucci, as you see here.. He has a five octave range now, A0 to A#5. Really. Next to him is guest J.None, then Eli Jacobson, (say it as ellie), then Layne Stein, who does sing but not in this one. Geoff also has his own solo channel doing low bass covers.

I like you feel that each acapella group is awesome in their own way. Each group member has their talent and the others in the group have theirs, when all get together they produce something amazing.
I know they did 7th Nation Army (or something like that) by White Stripes, Queen in 5 Minutes, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, if you like Disney they did a medley of Moana songs and one for The Little Mermaid, they did Hellfire from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Friends on the Other Side, and a few songs from the Nightmare before Christmas. They also have Halo's theme, which is very special and if you do that watch all the way to the end of that one, Skyrim's theme. They have My Mother Told Me and Valhalla Calling, as well as Hoist the Sails and Drunken Sailor. Now there are their ACA Top 10 songs, which are fantastic as well.
There is a song that Voiceplay and Home Free (another acapella group) did for a show they were on. After the show was over they made a video, that's 'Survivor' Home Free/ Voiceplay. Home Free and Voiceplay became great friends through the competition show they were on. You could check out Home Free's Country Fried Pop, cover of Man of Constant Sorrow, Boys II Men's End of the Road...they have just as many as Voiceplay. :) Anyway, just thought I'd give you some suggestions. Have a fantastic day!

So glad that you discovered Pentatonix and voiceplay. There is 1 other group Of the top 3 biggies in acapella and their name is home free. Pentatonix won the sing off in 2011 which was the 3rd season. Home free won the 4th season which was in 2013. As best as I understand it voice play took 4th. Pentatonix is considered the pop group. Home free is The country group and voice play are the theater kids. All of the bands are awesome They cover all genres. The beatboxer Kevin for PTX Adam For home free and
Layne Will sing upon occasion. I think I've only seen 1 video where Adam sings.. I don't know what Pentatonix video you saw but the beatboxer Kevin also plays the cello. He plays the cello while beatboxing. This he calls celloboxing. He is a world class cello player having performed at Carnegie hall. Layne Obviously plays the violin. The original beatboxer for Pentatonix Avi (Ah-vee) Left the group in 2017 for personal reasons. It was an amicable Departure. He has his own channel I suggest change on rise which is where most people start. Avi is the 1 with the beard and mustache and usually wearing a beanie. the gentleman that replaced him is matt and he is the other black gentleman. I hate describing people by skin color.... Some people because of The instruments appearing Get A little uppity about how that's not acapella. Each time an Instrument is used it is front and center in the video. They don't hide it. All 3 groups have a rabbit hole that is worth going down. The fans of each group are extremely loyal to their group . once you start doing more acapella arrangements The fans from all 3 groups will flocked to your channel and your subcriptions will go up. 1st time at your channel and I subscribe Hoping to see more acapella. For home free The video most people start with is man of constant sorrow And ring of fire featuring Avi. Tim the Bass along with Avi are basso profundo Singers. There are video where each 1 of them has blown speakers. From my understanding This happens fairly often with Pentatonix that they started to bring their own speakers that could handle the obvious Deep voice
that Avi has. Avi Has overtone which means he can sing 2 notes at the same time. There is a video of him at a Concert Where he demonstrates how it's done. I can never tell when he's doing it but a lot of others Pentaholics 1010 wins. Pentatonix stands are called pentaholics. Whom free fans are called home fries and pretty sure Pentatonix stands are called pentaholics. Whom free fans are called home fries and I'm pretty sure that fans of voice play are the voice playersPeriods I tried to catch all my mistakes because I voice text.

Rock? Ok, they've done Dream on, Creep, and In the Air Tonight. They are the "Theater Kid" of a cappella, so they've covered a metric ton of music from Theater or Movies. Geoff, the bass, has a 5 octave range. Eli, bald tenor, is the Rock God. He sang in heavier groups. Layne, beatbox, does get to sing on occasion, at least a line or two. He is also their arranger most often. As mentioned, JNone went and signed his soul away to the Navy for a few years, so he visits when he can. Cesar, our current Angel of Music, is a bit under used this time, but he does get to scream like a banshee in that high note. It is my contention that us fans are Voice Players, or Playas.

I subcribed. There are probably 5 big groups that are a capella. My personal favorite is VoicePlay, followed by The Bass Gang (just getting started - 2 from the US, 1 from the Czech Republic, 1 from Egypt. Last summer, they tried to get together in the Czech Republic but Marwan (Egyptian fellow) couldn't get the authorities to okay his visa. He had to do his part in Egypt). Pentatonix does some beautiful work as does Voctave (11 member group) and Home Free (more of a country feel). VoicePlay and Home Free did a video - Survivor: Zombies or Hillbillies, a bit silly but sometimes neither group takes themselves too seriously. If you are still in the rock mood consider these by VP: In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead), a post-apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yr period (two dropped out, 1 Earl an original member from 1997- high tenor for personal reasons and 2 is J None seen in this one was recruited by the US Navy for vocal talent, he comes back when he can) Back to the trilogy - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith) with new member Cesar (he's next to the beatboxer Layne Stein aka VioLayne) VP brought on a featured vocalist Omar Cardona, and last is Seven Nation Army (Whites Stripes) featuring Anthony Garguila (Gar-jewl'-ah). Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), Drunken Sailor (comic touch).

The one on the far right is Layne Stein the beatboxer so he sings less in the songs The group has in it Geoff Castellucci, Layne Stein, Eli Jacobson, and Cesar De La Rosa and Geoff is the living earthquake that was on the far left

Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay. I have subscribed to be able to see you react to more VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci videos.
My favorite VoicePlay song is Valhalla Calling, but you can't go wrong with anything they have out. Check out: Seven Nation Army; Carry on Wayward Son; In The Air Tonight; Dream On; Hoist The Colors; Drunken Sailor; Creep; The Lion Sleeps Tonight; Hellfire; Whiskey in the Jar. I could go on and on.
Geoff Castellucci (the bass) has his own channel, you need to check him out his versions of: 16 Tons, Misty Mountain Cold; I see Fire; Jack's Lament; Ain't No Sunshine; Sounds of Silence to name a few.
    Enjoy the rabbit hole.
