I must admit that as a person who likes discussions, I no longer feel like writing too much on Spectrum because of the so-called "white knights". Any form of criticism, even constructive criticism, is ridiculed and people treated with contempt. The community is so saturated with this that in order to be able to talk to anyone normally, as with people on the same level, you must first exchange arguments and use eristic tricks to find at least one person who will come to his senses and start talking in a civilized way. I believe that the term "white knight" does not reflect the essence of the problem at all, because instead of "noble warriors defending the honor of their favorite game", in most cases we are actually dealing with fierce cultists who often prefer to mock someone rather than convince him. Common practices include spamming snide remarks, clown emojis, and baby milk bottles. Disgusting.

It's simple, it's crunch time, used to be the same at Rockstar and that's in the UK too, UK working directive means you can't ask staff to work more than 48 hours a week legally without them signing a contract to opt out of the working time directive, in other words it means you have to get employees agreement.
"Average working hours are calculated over a 'reference' period, normally 17 weeks. This means you can work more than 48 hours one week, as long as the average over 17 weeks is less than 48 hours a week. Your working hours cannot be averaged out if you're under 18. You cannot work more than 40 hours in any one week."

I'm a player, and have spent 1000s. I read the article yesterday and am a little disturbed.. I'm not exactly thrilled with CiG as of late. This could be going a lot quicker. Sometimes I think they are spreading it out just to make more money and keep SC in perpetual development. There doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. It also seems like they are JUST now starting on the tunnel which should have been developed years ago. Also Star Engine seems like a glitch PoS compared to Unreal Engine 5 which they could have started using years ago. I'm not a developer and maybe I'm out of depth here but the current state of the game is a fucking glitch mess at the best of times.

CIG developers shouldn't have just sat around and complained about overtime when you had 12 years. What kind of companies have finished such huge projects in 12 years? What is meant by finishing is to make it fully playable. Otherwise, you release the game and then continue to develop it. You can see dozens of examples of this. Elite Dangerous - No Man's Sky - Starfield etc. All of these titles have unique and very successful aspects. For example, there are 4 billion systems in Elite, No Man's sky is infinite possibilities, Starfield has loading screens but incredible material and micro details, okay, we can't walk around the ship in Elite Dangerous etc. but it doesn't justify delaying a game. There aren't 500 types of ships in Star Citizen, let there be 60 types of ships at most. Besides, your team is not even 10 people. Hundreds of people will build techno castles and hundreds of useless toys with the money collected from this marketing, and the promises that will not be kept will wait for new victims. But time is running out. Cryengine is showing its age and is not even stable, but they still modified it and created something like the Star Engine. I was a backer with $750, but Star Citizen became my biggest gaming regret. Hundreds of ships will be sold at toy fundraising events like Citizencon, giving paid players nightmares of server crashes.

I just dont get how people still defend it. It would be so much better if the bulk of the community united around "no new features, flesh out what you have and make it stable", then add new features 1 by 1 and finish each one before you move to the next.
They definitely have a disater on their hands with MM. It does have its defenders but from what ive seen its overwhelmingly disliked by at least 80% of the community.
They definitely need to hire a figher pilot or something and use that knowledge to streamline the flight and internal screens..
Ive been "in" for 2 years and this game absolutely screams mismanagement.
Elite was never designed to reach so high but for all of its short comings, it was run infinitely better.
The sad part is, if SC goes belly up, it will damage the crowd funding horribly.
I wouldnt be that upset if it was sold. Because if it was that team would be focused on getting the game up and running.
You are 100% right about the white knights. I cant understand how they dont see they ppint of someone saying 10 years 700 million...
Its in absolutely horrid shape for that amount of money and time...
There is not even anything in the game that is ground breaking except the whole server meshing thing they are trying. Everything else or something very similar is already in various space games.
Losing senior staff is also bad news. Elite tried the same thing. Hiring kids straight out of college. They have had to regroup and push in a different direction. They have made steps but nothing super awesome...
This game is going to end up being a giant black eye.
The first step is stopping defending them...
SQ42 was never even "feature complete". There was an interview not that long ago on SpaceTamato with Yogi and A1. He said in that interview that they where using SC to build a flight model for SQ42...
So the game isnt close at all. A space game with no flight model, thats 12 years old and 700 million in and it has no flight model yet😂
    Its hilarous and terrible...

If the money was almost gone back in 2022, whatever they've made since then probably doesn't cover the studio increase and higher costs overall. I still will if they can stop this nonsense of 'fixing' things that aren't broken and fix bugs that have been in game for more than a decade. How about let's give players the ability to play for an hour and not lose everything to falling out of a ship? That would go a long long way. If Soul Singer is a new game it's all over. CIG will be cooked. Let's hope it's tech. The new MFD's are a perfect example of fixing what wasnt broken. Yeah they look ok....but they lost their practical usefulness to the pilot. Total ass.....we will relearn and adapt, but come on, focus that talent elsewhere... Imagine if server meshing doesn't help.....imagine the support they lose then. They just successfully tested 2,000 player server meshing, an industry-changing tech. It will eventually handle tens of thousands. The game constantly progresses without fail every 3-4 months and 2024 they made the most progress ever. Squadron 42 is feature complete and they will probably announce a release date tomorrow. It took 11 years for Diablo 3 to be made, a top-down game. You would have been screaming bloody murder if it had been in open development.
In the video, "Star Citizen Q&A + 3.24/4.0 Catchup | Are We There Yet?" Space Tomato on July 29, 2024 said: "We've had devs pop in to the chat here who have said, like, we're kind of moving over to Star Citizen, we're getting back to Squadron to work on some stuff that pops up as they go through that polishing phase so they're back and forth. But until Squadron 42 is in a good enough place that a lot of those devs can just peace out and not have to go back to it and work on it, Star Citizen is going to continue to sit in the back seat.
"And I was just talking about this on the last stream. I think I'm going to make a video about this sometime soon. Squadron 42 is where all the content and the effort's going. We all kind of know that. Maybe not on a larger scale but if you are in this stream, if you are watching this stream after the fact you're probably tuned in enough to Star Citizen to know that Squadron 42 is taking a lot of the development resources and I'd think until that is no longer true, Star Citizen is probably going to be rough."

Master Modes has literally NOTHING to do with the desync issues, honestly, i don't know where you people get your crazy ideas about desync and what causes it.
Desync is a server issue, that's the why of all the mumbo jumbo "server meshing" and "replication layer", MM is the new interaction/handling system of the ships, that's client side, they literally have nothing to do with each other.
Apart from that, yeah, the game doesn't look too good right now, i still have a bit of hope that in one or two years we will get SQ42, and from then on we will get a slightly more smooth sailing into the journey to complete SC, but is just that, hope.

It's difficult to know what is really happening because what we have are opinions from disgruntled developers who have left the company or been fired. These people have undoubtedly had bad experiences, but what sort of overview did they really have, and is there any exaggeration from them or the author of the article? It's impossible to answer these questions. Let's wait and see what CitizenCon presents us with. One thing we can say with certainty is that Star Citizen is unique in the game industry. Nothing comes close to its projected scope, and only Chris Roberts has had the vision and courage to attempt it. For these reasons, I'm prepared to give him and CIG the benefit of the doubt.

As much as I would like SC to succeed I have a dwindling degree of "faith" that it will, as things are at present. The years have taught me not to put any faith in what is talked about at CitizenCon as "upcoming" or "coming soon" features, mechanics or game play. There is a well documented history for that perspective. All you have to do is go back 12 years and look at all the still unfulfilled Kickstarter Stretch goals and all of the big plans of things to come that were mentioned at CitizenCon/ISC and then just vanished off the radar (Theatres of War, as just one example) . I wonder if Chris will talk about "hitting an inflection point" this year and how that will free up SQ42 devs to ramp up the delivery of features and functions for SC in 2024/25?

if you regularly put in overtime to meet a deadline that says 1 of 2 things, either you work to slow for the deadline OR the deadline is too strict. that isnt the real world, thats either you being incompetent at your given role (working slow) or your being taken advantage of (too strict of a deadline) which under UK law, CIG better be careful because we actually have decent employee/employer laws preventing such practices and "forced" overtime bs. so the fact this is even happening is very questionable, because once a union gets traction at a company in the UK for employees rights well kiss any work being done and watch the stories fly.
Should also mention, if you are putting in regular overtime (in the UK) then you clearly dont even know your own rights on this (meaning your being taken advantage off unknowingly) you cannot by law work more than 48 hours on average a week, you can work more than this 48 hours average BUT it has to be signed by you and the company to say so. so if you have a deadline AND you are already at the 48 hour average limit and they want you to work overtime well guess what........ you can say no even if your contract states you work overtime and by law they CANNOT dock you or sack you for this.
Know your rights, cz it sounds to me you dont even know your own rights (if your working in the UK and actively agreeing to overtime on a regular basis)

So crunch is legal , you just have to compensate and offer time off after .
He also stated an employee can waver and work as much as they want .
He also said that his friends that worked there haven't complained and enjoy it there.
As well as the it wasn't the entire conpany asked it was only people working on things for citizen con so they could be ready , that it was also optional but they offered compensation for those that would help them by answering the call to work .
So let me ask you this . What does him being a shill have to do with anything ? How does him being a shill make that false ? The law is the law .
As far as the second hand info from inside .

You realize GTA 5 was one of the most successful games ever launched. It’s been out for 11 years and has proven itself and it’s functional. You cannot say the same about SC.
GTA 5s estimate to create/market is around 265M yet it’s made rockstar 8.6 Billion. So it’s not that weird that rockstar would spend 2.2 Billion on creating a franchise that has already proven itself and will be the face of rockstar for the next 12-15 years. I’m sure they will probably double their profits that they made on gta 5 with gta 6. SC has only raised 700M off a game that’s been in progress for 12 years.. even if you cut that in half and say well they’ve been making squadron 42, let’s say 6 years. It took rockstar THREE WHOLE YEARS to make gta 5… I love SC but it’s no where even close to rockstars GTA level.

It's definitely not a con/scam. People who keep insisting it is can be safely disregarded as too ignorant to pay attention to.
That being said we have had a number of false starts with the features they are bringing which has made the project late for sure. Most of these false starts are entirely valid. On frontier projects sometimes you just find yourself at an impass which requires redesign and CIG has stoicly overcome many of these.
But this citizencon definitely showed that they had been stuck without a way for much longer than many of us realised. And ngl I was pretty disappointed to hear that their modular procedural settlement creation tool was only just being created now. They defo had sold us the idea that this was being made a long time ago and now we find out that what... they ditched it for hand crafting now have started to make a new one again? Hmmmm 🫤
