I really don't have the words to describe how that piece makes me feel... Its beyond inspirational to see two phenomenal guitar players so locked into one another; they're literally playing as one ebbing, flowing, and breathing Entity. Masterful.
Im attending Pauls online guitar school and over the years I have come to realize what an awesome good hearted individual he really is, his love for the instrument and willingness to share everything he knows speaks so very well to his humanity. I used to be resistant to listening to Paul's discography because I thought it would just be all shred and Im jealous cause I cant do it... yet. But Ive come to realize he plays with tons of soul and feeling and has encyclopedic knowledge of everything classic rock. Braavo Paul and of course his esteemed and revered partner Mr. Sheehan.
I was lucky enough to have an in person lesson with Paul Gilbert. Not ring to brag or one up you, just give more testimony to how kind and great he is. I knew he had hearing damage, but, at the time, I was very soft spoken. And when I asked him a question, instead of asking me to speak up because he couldn't hear me, he cupped his ear and leaned in closer to me. This guitar God is accommodating me! Some stranger who can't play one ounce of what he can. Incredible. Such a humble guy. Best guitarist and super sweet, kind, and funny.
I applaud your ability to recognize those things about yourself. Paul Gilbert always did strike me as an authentic guy, he's doing what he loves, making a great living, and he looks really happy. I love celebrating people, famous or not, for being authentic and work to be a positive force in the world.
@@johnnycoolguy9554 he's the best. I got a picture picture with him holding his brand new fireman, and I had the 2000 guitar. I accidently clagned them together. He wasn't even worried about it. I emailed him when I got home and he told me they were just fine and no sweat. Just an awesome guy
This would make a great song. If not, one of the best instrumental music ever! Technique, skills, melody, feeling, musicianship, talent all rounded up in one. Lots of cheers for Paul-Sheehan and Mr Big ladies and gentlemen!!
Billy Sheehan is a pretty good performer to know that the guitar is the more prominent instrument in the song, and gives it the love at the end. Paul and Billy are gods.
War Never Changes >> hi .... at first i thought you toss in some negative''drug reference'' one-liner at Paul's expense but instead u threw a complimentary zinger in there at the end about his pinkie YOU, my friend ... are a COOL dude!
Yes and Billy Sheehan is one of my favorites along with Geddy Lee. Great musicians. Got to love Paul Gilbert. Virtuoso guitar players is what I look up to because I'm a guitarist and I study them.
They both have three of their strings tuned to E, Paul's 1st, 5th and 6th strings are removed. That's why they play double necks in the first place. Arpeggios from heaven... ;)
More of a duet, really. Got to see Mr. Big back in 89/90? Awsome show. Opened with Wind me up. Great days. Great memories. Awsome that their still doing it!
Wow.. that was really great performance. I never seen anything big as what Mr. Big had done. Thank you.. thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. That was so fuckin' awesome performance !!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
No official title has been given yet; the Back to Budokan CD tracklisting identifies it as two separate songs - 0:00 to 3:09 as "Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan Duo" and 3:10 to 4:28 as "Double Human Capo"
you'll never see more talent in two people on one stage than that, paul gilbert has had enough worthy praise for his genious in his life time, but Billy sheehan, holy shit that was awesome and looked sooo effortless. i will be overdubbing me on the drums to this soon just to see what it sounds like, if its not too shamefull i'll post it.
The kind of playing makes me glad, I don't play.....I can just listen to this greatness and enjoy this level of playing. Long lived Rock !!!!! Modern Rock and alternative can go back from where it came.
pigebear - Remember that round red sticker on Paul's first Racer X album saying: Warning! If you are a guitar player, this as album may give you serious depression!
toda mi vida pense que slash era un dios el dios del hard rock pero paul gilbert es un monstruo creo que este guitarro dejo callado a malstein facilmente paul eres el mejor viejo
I always did love Gilbert for his technical abilities, but I also love the guys with soul like hendrix, young, and clapton. Some people its one or the other though and then they end up trash talking one which doesn't deserve trash talk.
The only difference is that in Mr Big's case both necks have 6 guitar and 4 bass strings. I mean Gilbert holds one with 6 guitar strings on each neck and Sheehan one with 4 bass strings respectively. However, Lifeson had a double neck guitar with six and twelve strings whereas Geddy with 4 bass strings and six guitar strings. I can't see the reason for playing a guitar with a double neck that has 6 strings on each neck, except if there's a different tuning maybe?
Not sure about Gilbert's, but Sheehan's top neck is tuned like the top 4 strings of a 5 string (BEAD) whilst the lower neck is tuned like a standard 4 string (EADG) Gilbert's would likely be the same, with a baritone guitar at the top maybe? Can't see a difference in scale length though...
I'm pretty sure one of the necks on Paul Gilbert's guitar only has 3 strings, and they're all tuned to octaves of Eb. I think it's the same for Billy's bass. For this video at least.
I really don't have the words to describe how that piece makes me feel... Its beyond inspirational to see two phenomenal guitar players so locked into one another; they're literally playing as one ebbing, flowing, and breathing Entity. Masterful.
what a beautiful joy to see band mates that appreciate and thrill to playing together after so many years
Agreed
*2 legendary professors of rock music right here.* ❤

I absolutely agree with you. It's got such a positive and uplifting feeling to it. That main melody/hook is so damn cheery and catchy.

he doesnt do it often enough tho...
Does not matter how many years passed or will pass, this performance will be always on the top of all lists.
Billy Sheehan is a Bass magician .

This is just ineffably beautiful, God bless thisss.
Smokin'... Just absolutely fucking smokin' gentlemen. This one deserves a tip of the Mr. Big hat - and that my friends - it says it all.....
Ever wondered why Gilbert is so skinny? It's probably cus his pinky itself burns 1000 calories a day
hahahahaha
lol
Never puts the guitar down. Bet he showers with it.

Yes and Billy Sheehan is one of my favorites along with Geddy Lee. Great musicians. Got to love Paul Gilbert. Virtuoso guitar players is what I look up to because I'm a guitarist and I study them.

Love these guys. Their musicianship is phenomenal.
They both have three of their strings tuned to E, Paul's 1st, 5th and 6th strings are removed. That's why they play double necks in the first place. Arpeggios from heaven... ;)
Jan Cermak lol I was so confused for a second then I realized what was happening hahaha
Eb
Why pull the strings?
Yeah, fuck Malmsteen!
That doesn't explain why they both only used *one* of the necks for this part of the show.
I would hire these two to make the music for the next Zelda game
Richard Diaz this would be cool riding across hyrule field on epona yeah boooiii
I got news for you bro, they didn't
@@ironguy6482 you mean the OP didnt hire them to make the next zelda game's soundtrack?

The best guitarist with the best bassist.. love it!! Big Applause
17 people just can't accept the fact that Paul Gilbert on a three-strings guitar can still play at the God level.
I love to watch these two. They are having such a great time with it.

This reminds me to Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson in Xanadu's video.

Thy God the bottom neck had three strings all tuned to E. Paul used it for "3 Es for Edward" on his "Get Out Of My Yard" solo album
Paul Gilbert youre one of a kind..
damn pauls tone is so much better now
Two GODS in ONE BAND! that`s amazing!!!!!
1:42 my favorite part.

WOW...WOW...WOW
Grossly underrated (in the mainstream) musicians here.

+Raymond soneja Damn Ray Ray, get butt hurt much??

The double-necked bass must be very heavy:)))
Kinda 8 years late, but if I remember correctly, he said in an interview that it weights around 20lb/9kg :)
