  • Good sleep is essential for the brain’s development. According to the National Sleep Foundation, an adult has to get a minimum of 7-9 hours of sleep. Our sleep consists of 4 cycles, which have 4 phases : Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, and REM Sleep - Phase 1 is Light Sleep, Phase 2 is Medium Sleep, Phase 3 is Deep Sleep and REM Sleep, Rapid Eye Movement Sleep is when you dream. Out of which Deep Sleep is the most important.
Only when we get a good sleep does our brain as well as our organs get rejuvenated. Our deep sleep is responsible for strengthening our short-term memory as well as for it to get transferred into long-term memory. Thus it is proven that those who hadn’t completed their deep sleep tend to forget the previous day’s events. Even those who don’t get adequate sleep tend to get stressed often, which leads to the excess release of cortisol hormone which in turn damages the nerves which leads to memory loss and other brain functions, such as focus, concentration, presence of mind, and attention span. Depression is a perfect example of those who do not get adequate sleep required by the body.
To rejuvenate and increase your brain power and its function, having a good and complete sleep is very much recommended.
