Don't worry about the lack of oil in the diff filter it only a splash feed the truck is moving then drains back in to axle. The transmission filter on the other hand is pressure fed from a pump in the gear box (don't tow the truck unless the engine is running or the prop is taken off as the gears in the box don't get the properly lubricated) which is connected to the input shaft.

Hi Bruce, I have a mate that was a Scania sales and service agent here in Australia. He says they are the ultimate truck.I guess they are not prevalent in the U.S.A. because of the import duties placed on them by the government protecting locally manufactured products. The U.S government wants free access to other countries, but it is a different story when the shoe is on the other foot.

Scania uses a lot of proprietary driveline components with no US dealers and no one else using their stuff in the US, nobody here would be able to get parts or know how to do service. Not very good in long haul trucking where drivers cannot afford any downtime and need to get any level of servicing done anywhere at any time. Building up that service network would be a monumental task for an already saturated market with high customer loyalty.

Unfortunately there are also political reasons why Scania is not available in the North American market consequently there is no official dealer network in the US! However, all the Scania products are one of the most popular products in South America, particularly in Brazil 🤔

To think that the 14 Litre 530 HP Scania has been used in the most arduous terrain across the globe and can still put up with this type of punishment.
It is a testament to the brand and reliability of the truck. It was bought out a while ago by Volkswagen which also owns MAN.
I don't understand why the T-boot Scanias didn't make it to the US for long-haul transport. The Volvos did.

    • @ImForwardlook
      @ImForwardlook 11 месяцев назад +4

The only reason Volvos can be sold in the US is because they are an American version with a long wheelbase and cab. There are people who don't care about good looks and style (read big fleets) and will buy just about anything. But the truck still needs to have a reasonable wheelbase and preferably three axles. I have never driven a (European) Volvo faster than 80 mph and it was very sketchy to say the least. And that was a three axle one.

Dear Bruce, in Europe we considered the v8 Scania engine as the most powerful in the world. It used to be so powerful that most Scania v8 trucks used to have problems on their transmissions & diffs, because the brute force of their engines could tear them apatt. In my home country, Greece truckers who owned Scanias used to convert their trucks by changing the Scania diffs with the ones built by Mercedes and the gearboxes with the Volvo ones, as they were considered undestrucktable, so that they coyld stand the power of the motor and not break down...

Hey Bruce, Darryl from Australia here.
If you’re still thinking about doing a stretch and running tandem drive axles, you are probably looking in the wrong place.
In Australia the majority of Scania’s over here are both drive axles, ( not too many lazy lift axles ), so would be a lot easier to find, and very little snow here, so rust will be less of an issue compared to Europe.
And if you wanted to be tricky, look at what New Zealand are using.
They run a lot of twin steer over there with a longer frame.
Just disregard the second steer axle, and get the frame cut to the length you require.
Might be just what you are looking for

The V8 were designed by Scania for the thoughest environment and ridiculous using, hence why they're pricier than the standard inline-6s or inline-5s...
And that's why they're unique, dreamed, and loved by many drivers and fans...
Scania also has a bonneted/hood variant called the T-cab from the series 1 up until series 4. As far as I know, after the series 4, the T-cab only came as optional. And then it was stopped. Some people converted a standard cabover to a bonneted or hood one, like a company in Netherland.
If you got a T-cab, whether it is a 9-litre inline-5 or an 11-litre inline-6 or even a 14-litre V8, you can compared it with a conventional American Big Rigs.
    Cheers👍🏽

In fact the conventional bonnet (torpedo) variant has always been a big part of Scania, from the first truck in 1902 until they decided to stop making them in 2005 because of decreased demand. Until the midddle of the 1970's Scania sold more Torpedos than Bulldogs (coe). Before the "GPRT" generation (for example T112) was introduced in 1980 Scania named their bonnet trucks just "L" (Lastbil) and the coe "LB" (Lastbil, Bulldog). For example L110 and LB110.
The 4 series also had versions with a new 12 litre I6 (124) and a new 16 litre V8 (164), the engines that later replaced the 11 and 14 litre engines.
