1982 was the year Southern merged with Norfolk and Western to form Norfolk Southern Corp. In 1998-1999 they took over part of Conrail's lines in the north. 765 ran on NS between 2012-2015 for 21st Century Steam. 2013-2015 it pulled public excursions on NS. I rode two of them in PA in May 2013 and Aug 2015.
@@SteamIsntKing The Erie's, C&O's, PM's, and NKP's 2-8-4's all share the exact same base mechanical design across the board, with slight differences and tweaks that make them ever so slightly different in both look and performance figures from each other. Such is the joy of the Advisory Mechanical Committee. So yes, one can argue that 765, 1225, and 2716 are the steam loco equivalent to a trio of human cousins.
0:48 RIP Bill. Your attribution to steam locomotives will never be erased by the cutters torch
This was 765's first big test after being restored to steam. she more than lived up to expectations.
