    You know guys, nobody shows this part of Dubai and I didn't know these little streets and free museums and small squares even exited. It's all very lovely and would possibly be absolutely necessary for me if I was to ever live in the middle of a bustling place like that. Anyone know about Signapore and if it has calm places like this too?

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  7 лет назад +1

      Outside of the marina area of downtown Singapore is mostly residential so it is much calmer. They don't really have an "old town" like this though. -Brian

      I know the feeling! In Vietnam, the "fancy" stores think good customer service is standing 1 foot away from you silently while you browse. Ran away from really nice stores because of that!

    • @ActionableFreedom
      @ActionableFreedom 7 лет назад +2

      Firstly they are a bit extra pushy to women which sucks but then you have to think about their perspective. They would assume you're in the Souk to buy stuff and that you're interested in being engaged, haggling and finding good deals. Not just just walking about.

      Food is actually a lot less expensive than we thought it'd be, even outside Old Dubai. The restaurants inside the malls are pretty expensive, but if you use Zomato (basically Yelp, but more popular over there), you can find really great restaurants scattered around the city for really reasonable prices. -Brian

    FYI: The reason they require a local number for WiFi is to send across an authentication number for you to get connected. It's not at all "so dumb".

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  6 лет назад +4

      I understand why they do it, but it's so dumb because the signs are posted in touristy areas. Tourists don't have local numbers. I've been to plenty of countries where the wifi is free and open, you just have to click a button to agree to the terms and conditions and then you're connected. -Brian

    Wonderful and reminiscent of the old days. However, the behavior of the shop people is not acceptable, and one should seriously report this to the tourist office, and even higher up if this still happens. Dubai is very modern, and they take complaints seriously. The problem is that many of the people who work here are from third world survival countries (no need to mention nationality or ethnicity), and they don't realize how bad-mannered they are sometimes. It's just an educational thing, and I am sure when it gets to the ears of some official higher up that they will take measures in order to change this behaviour. It's a possitive meant-for-education thing to do, not negative. Again, if this still happens these days, one might even try a signature petition, just to improve tourism over there. Not to mention touching a lady, be it with a cloth, which is a big offense in this part of the world. Old Dubai is a lovely and historic place.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 года назад

      Anyone is welcome to use this video if they want to notify any authorities about behaviors that need to change, but we're not going to make a big deal out of it, especially not now, 4 years after we were there. We can't be sure the markets are still even like that. -Brian
