*There were people that would tell me that the Gamecube was for kids/shitty/dumb/etc. There was one thing all these people had in common: none of them had played a single Gamecube game before.*
In 2001 i had an agreement with 2 of my cousins- I bought the Xbox... my other cousin bought a ps2 and my younger cousin bought the GameCube. They would come over to play Halo, we would go over to the cousin with the ps2 to play twisted metal/GTA 3 and we would go over to our younger cousin's house to play Smash Bros/Luigi's mansion and wind waker. Good times! I was always in awe of the GameCube because I didn't know how a box that looked like a Mattel toy could be so fun. But the titles are what caused us to stay and play long hours. We played that thing more than our respective consoles.
I Don't know why you play GameCube more than PlayStation 2 or Xbox unless you just like little kitty fun games like smash Brothers and stuff like that. The game titles is not even a competition between Xbox PlayStation and GameCube. I only knew one person who had a GameCube and we all looked at him like why did you get a GameCube while we all had Xbox and Playstation 2.
same thing with me and my 2 cousins my one cousin had a xbox and i had a gamecube and my other one used to have a ps2 right before he passed away in 2019

The GameCube was hands down one of my favorite consoles from my childhood. I didn’t own one. However, I enjoyed playing Mario kart double dash at my childhood best friends house. Good times.
I only owned 3 games on my Nintendo Gamecube. Madden NFL 2004, MVP Baseball 2005, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I can still remember the countless tournaments me and my friends had after school and the countless hours I spent sailing around the ocean looking for the sunken Tri-Force shards scattered across the world lol! Touchdowns, Home Runs, and saving the world! Good times lol!
Well said! The 6th gen was and always will be the greatest console generation of all-time. The Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube, and original Xbox collectively left behind a library of games the likes we may never see again. Heck, those titles are still getting remakes and/or sequels to this day! What a time in gaming. Glad I was there to see it. Great video. Love the channel.
When the GameCube was first launched it was impossible to find in my area's stores for the first few months. 3 or 4 months after the launch, me and my mom were calling stores everyday to see if they had stock. One day I was in school and about an hour before we got out, I was pulled out for a "dentist appointment". When I got in the car with my mom, she told me she called Toys R Us and found that they had a few in stock. We went and bought one and it was awesome. My mom never let me skip school or leave early without a good reason so this was pretty out of the blue. One of the coolest things my mom has done for me.
The more time that passes, the more I love this console. I had one at launch (still have it) but never really appreciated it or played it too much. Wish I had those component cables though. I play my GCN games now through my Wii with component cables connected via an OSSC.
Damn, that hit me right in the childhood ! So glad that I had the chance to grow up with that console, so many amazing memories ! Great documentary mate !
Get the E.O.N hdmi adaptor and combine it with the MClassic and the gamecube looks jawdropping on any modern tv. This will run you about $250 plus tax but if you have a good games library and a gamecube that has the port on the back, it's worth it.
It had the coolest controller my childhood will remember. I mean those buttons made you want to click! And playing Wind Waker in 2002 was like an ode to art!
I was in high school when this generation came out and the issue was definitely the lack of a DVD player which was a huge Trojan horse for the PS2. Almost every family was looking to transition to the format around this time and a savvy kid had a damn good chance of convincing their parents to spend the extra $50 on a PS2. I also remember the weird launch lineup of the GameCube being genuinely baffling. No Zelda, no Mario, just seemed a bit baron right around the holiday season. They really needed something big to go up against GTA3. I can’t even explain the organic hype that was generated from that game. Online play wasn’t really a big thing back then but co-op games like Halo were huge. The GameCube controller was also unfortunately awful for navigating 3D games with two analog sticks. That yellow stick was weird and never felt good for moving the camera compared to the PS2 or Xbox. It’s funny though the GameCube is perhaps the only console from that generation that people still care about. Time is funny like that.
The GC was the last Nintendo console I spent any real time on. Enjoyed it quite a bit. But you’re right about it’s weird launch. Wound up getting a ps2 as well. While the GC wasn’t a complete kids console, it def still trailed behind its competitors in mature games. And I was already an adult when it launched so I wound up going with a ps2 as well for more third party and maturer titles. Still, I have plenty of fond memories with the GC. Also I have no clue what you guys are talking about with the controller. I remember loving the GC’s controller.
The Gamecube really is unique. It's just something that has never been seen before or since. ALso the yellow stick really is no issue with just a few hours of practice. The only real issue is the D-pad which really was too small. But as a console not only does the Gamecube look unique but it also has a huge collection of hidden gems.
Definitely the best console of the generation in my opinion. It was the only generation I had roommates and access to all 4 consoles. GameCube and Dreamcast were always the most played.
The GCN I feel is the most superior Nintendo console in terms of how many games they released with their own IPs (2 Zelda games, 2 Pikmin games, 2 Metroid Primes, 4 Mario Party’s, a Wario game, Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, Smash Melee, even an F-Zero). That’s just to name a few. Third party support was on point as well. This was also their last console with hardware that was actually on par with its competitors.
Man, such a great console. I remember loving many games on the gamecube (The Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine and SMB Melee above all else) And growing up, I am still amazed at how many critically acclaimed games there was. But I can also appreciate something more about the gamecube. It was risky. No mario game for the launch, Zelda Wind Waker and it's graphics, Metroid Prime... While Nintendo nowadays still does great games (I mean, BotW and SMO are insanely good), Nintendo no longer take much risks. This is why I consider the gamecube as one of the greatest console. As much nostalgy as I have tho, I consider Nintendo's focus on accessibility with the Wii and DS as the peak of Nintendo tho. I wish Nintendo took more risks nowadays.
The gamecube was my first console to call my own. This box of joy over the years has given me so much joy over the years & for many years to come. It's great to see the gamecube & other consoles that were underappreciated for their time are now getting the attention they deserve. Unfortunately gamecube game prices have gone up dramatically which makes it very hard for new people to jump in as there are only so many games available.
New Series per Nintendo console: GameCube- Animal Crossing, Chibi-Robo, Custom Robo, Pikmin, Metroid Prime (5!) Wii- Wii Simulation Games (1) Wii U- Mario Maker, Splatoon, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors (4) Switch- Arms (1)
Fun fact, apple released a cube shaped computer with extremely similar hardware to the gamecube at around the same time. It was called the Power Macintosh G4 Cube.
I bought the console the day it was released, we skipped school with a friend and spent the entire day playing Star Wars Rogue Leader. I eventually sold it. 10 years ago I bought it again and built up a collection of games of which I am very proud today. True marvel.
Gamecube was an amazing console with so many incredible games. If it had DVD capabilities, it would have blown PS2 out of the water. I remember every kid wanting a PS2 because it could play DVD's even though it had awful launch titles.
as a big nintendo fan who loved the gamecube, the fact that only 2 to maybe 3 games came out a year that were awesome with no online support made it feel like not shit came out because even all those classic games could be completed in 20-30 hours
Nintendo 64 and gamecube were both essential parts of my childhood, even today i go back and play some of my favorite games, and theres a lot of them! Some of the most fond memories I have are with them. Sounds a little crazy but it is true!! Love the video, thank you :D
I was personally a PS2 guy growing up but I have a soft spot for the GameCube. After all every kid in my neighborhood had a GameCube back in the day. I remember playing games like Melee and Mario Allstar Baseball with my best friends.
GameCube has some games I still consider being in my personal top 5 all time. Paper mario the thousand year door and ocarina of time, but there are so many high quality games. I'm just now playing fire emblem and pikmin through emulation since I never got a chance as a kid, and man. Nintendo was on fire with this console
Great video! I have a love/hate relationship with the GameCube, but my hate is unfounded. Let me explain… I was an N64 kid and to this day it is my console of choice. Ocarina of time is my fav game of all time so naturally when I saw that tech demo with Link and Ganaondorf, I knew I had to get a GameCube. I was at the doors of WalMart buying one on launch day with my mom. I waited and waited for that Zelda game to come out but instead we got Windwaker. I cannot tell you how upset I was about windwaker. To this day, I’m still upset because I know the GameCube could have done so much better if Nintendo just listened to fans. In the meantime I had fun with games such as the 007 games, Luigi’s mansion and prince of Persia. I was 18 by the time I got the Zelda game I wanted for the GC, but by then it was too late and the GameCube was dead. I didn’t even bother with the Wii. Today I can say the GC was great, but I can’t shake that gut reaction I had when I bought the GC for a mature Zelda, and got windwaker.
Hey man. I'm only 8 minutes into the video and I already want to throw some praise your way for the awesome job you've done with your take on the Gamecube. Love the console and great job reminding us why it is great. Hype I found your channel and keep up the good work!
Got back on my GameCube in 2021 after so many years. Such a nostalgia trip. Opening the disk trap and launching the games feels great. In order to get her back on track, I decided to improve my PAL console by unlocking the 480p via Swiss and purchasing an HDMI adapter. Now I can play on modern screen with a much sharper image ( even though the aliasing is more visible). My gearing journey is on its way, I have now 3 controlers, the GBA link cable, and I'll soon get the gameboy player and the microphone. I am also trying to get some games back in my library like F-Zero or Mario Smash Football. I'm also getting games I couldn't had as a teenager like Tales of Symphonia, Eternal Darkness, Mario RPG and so much more. The only downside are the prices that are skyrocketing for some games, but I'm confident I will complete my dreamlist. Such a great system alongside its sister the GBA (that I'm modding and also collecting right now).
The gamecube controller was one of the most precise and comfortable ever created... for non-disabled gamers. As someone with a disability in my right hand the GC pad is simply not an option. I can't even rate it myself, it is simply impossible for me to use. The wonderful thing about the Dualshock design was that it was symmetrical on both the right and left sides of the pad, that allows for flexibility in positioning and finger placement for ppl whose hands are not fully functional.
Actually, Super Mario Sunshine wasnt necessarily praised. In fact, it was quite polarizing and was received generally negative when it first came out. Its still quite a divisive game to say the least.
I worked in retail during Christmas of 2001-2002. The PS2 cost way more, only supposted 2 controllers (multi-tap extra) and memory cards were expensive. The number of defective PS2 units that came back was way higher than Xbox and GCN (I only saw 2 defective Xboxes and no Gamecubes compared to countless PS2s) so this was the only console I could recommended the extended warranty for. We still sold way more PS2s despite being the least powerful and most expensive. Even the Xbox's power, DVD player, built in HDD and network capabilities didn't stand a chance against everyone's loyalty to the Playstation brand. Nintendo lost that generation's console war before it even started. I'm glad that all these retro gaming channels are looking back and seeing how great the Gamecube was.
Proud owner of a GameCube I bought new back in 2004 when the Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition came out. Was lucky to get one of the last GameCube DOL-001s with compatibility for the GameCube component cables. Got a Game Boy Player that matched its color scheme (the Jet Black model) too a year or so later.
I loved my GCube. Never understood why nobody else seemed to be playing it. The games were slick and super fun. Kinda kicking myself now that I sold it and 25 of the best games for $300. Good times, though. Insta-nostalgia.
The Gamecube was so underrated early in it's life I absolutely loved it Enternal Darkness, Meteoroid Prime, Zelda, Super Smash Bros anything Mario especially Mario Sunshine so many games to list and the wave bird controller was comfortable and well built I opted to get the GameCube over the others cause Nintendo has always been dear to my childhood memories from the mid 80's I decided on the GC and have not regrets on my decision... Great upload #NintendoPower
I had a GameCube as a kid and I loved it, I always played super monkey ball and a wolverine game that I can’t remember the name of but it always scared me . idk what happened 2 it tho :/
Fun Fact: The GameCube was originally planned to have motion controls, a gamepad controller with a screen, and even a portable hybrid version. So yeah the GameCube basically predicted the Wii, Wii U, and Switch.
still have 2 crts at my house for older consoles (mostly melee but lately lots of ps1/ps2 era jrpgs). the gamecube/ps2/xbox era is easily my favorite console generation. so many gems across all 3
Such an underrated console. There are so many misconceptions about it. But for me it had the best controller ever and is right up there as one of my top consoles of all time.
Huge fan of yours man.. Thanks for making this because I’ve been feeling this way since 02! Been waiting for someone to make this! Let’s get Dreamcast next!!
The GameCube is the one system I wanted as a birthday/Christmas present and never got it. I had so much fun playing Super Strikers and Mario Superstar Baseball on it.
I wish they stuck with the layout of the controller but just updated it, the central action button surrounded by auxiliary buttons was perfectly executed, triggers with a digital input at the end, assymetric joy sticks. It really only needed analog buttons, second shoulder button, and bigger d pad.
I never owned a Gamecube as a kid, but my cousins had one and it was hella fun to play on. So many memories were made playing Mario Party or Mario Superstar Baseball. A few years ago I spent a solid 70 bucks buying a black model, and I'm still building my collection today!
The GameCube was so underrated. Even after moving to PC, most of my playtime is still on Dolphin
I got the Dolphin emulator too only game I got for it Melee tho lol
I got dolphin on my phone
How are you enjoying Dolphin?
I wish the GameCube allowed at least 720p.

Great video! Bring back memories 😁
Great video as usual.
I remember seeing these in gaming and toy stores when I was a kid thinking they looked so cool.
This was also their last console with hardware that was actually on par with its competitors.
gamecube has aged better than the other two consoles because nintendo focused more on gameplay and the other two focused on graphics.
Man, such a great console.
I remember loving many games on the gamecube (The Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine and SMB Melee above all else)
And growing up, I am still amazed at how many critically acclaimed games there was.
Baten Kaitos and Tales of symphonia are the two games I remember most on the GC. Loved this system.
Game cube was like having a sports car or a mistress it wasn’t your main squeeze but it was a perfect getaway
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour is so insanely fun. I put a lot of hours in that game and I bought it on a whim not expecting much. Lots of fun.
2 years ago I know but you also reminded me of the GBA game. That was so fun, you could walk around and explore the map like an RPG.
I also gave years of my life playing Melee with friends, then 100%ed Twilight Princess 3 times in one year...
What a beast of a console.
Did you use a guide to 100% Twilight Princess?
@@TheUltimateNatural No. Midna and the fortune teller for 100%
@@TheUltimateNatural Using a guide outside of a game is bad game design in my opinion. Twilight Princess is an anomaly.
New Series per Nintendo console:
GameCube- Animal Crossing, Chibi-Robo, Custom Robo, Pikmin, Metroid Prime (5!)
Wii- Wii Simulation Games (1)
Wii U- Mario Maker, Splatoon, Captain Toad, Hyrule Warriors (4)
Switch- Arms (1)
The intro was gas 🔥
Congrats on 100K!!! Well deserved!
RUclips algo sent me here and to your channel! Good video, I loved my Gamecube. I was 8 or 9 and ran circles in my house when I got one for Christmas.
Really great video man!
Great Video!
Great video man, very interesting!
Today I can say the GC was great, but I can’t shake that gut reaction I had when I bought the GC for a mature Zelda, and got windwaker.
what craftsmanship for the intro, great content as always
I adore my GCN. It was my first console I bought for myself and I put a bunch of time into it.
Y'know my family bought a gamecube not knowing that the Wii we already owned could play gamecube games.
Hello There,disabled gamer as well.
Stay strong
Actually, Super Mario Sunshine wasnt necessarily praised. In fact, it was quite polarizing and was received generally negative when it first came out. Its still quite a divisive game to say the least.
Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine:
"7.8/10 Too much water"
The GameCube Nintendo is probably one of my all-time favorite home console besides the SONY PS3 and Super Nintendo!
Man this is amazing i was hoping for this kind of content when u said you would be trying something new 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bro the gamecube controller was probably the best controller I've ever laid my hands on. Everything about it is perfect.
The new intro looks smooth. Perfect editing keep up the good work!
You've made my life complete
I'm crying rn omg😭😭😭😭😃😃😃
Ah man the Pokémon colosseum music brought all the nostalgia
Ennit. Takes you to another place
10:25 I can’t explain why your pronunciation of miyamoto pissed me off so much💀
Absolutely love your videos! Keep up the great work
Hey Softdrink, nice content bro! Ever consider doing videos on wrestling games such as the Smackdown vs Raw series, Legends of Wrestling 🤼♀️, etc.?
My favorite game designer is the creator of Mario and Zelda. SIGERIU MIANOMO
She-guru my Yamo dough
My favourite console ever. Got it hooked up with 4 wavebirds, gameboy player and network adapter. Beautiful machine.
Fun Fact: The GameCube was originally planned to have motion controls, a gamepad controller with a screen, and even a portable hybrid version. So yeah the GameCube basically predicted the Wii, Wii U, and Switch.
Hyped. Commenting to help with the algorithm lol
Your pronunciation of Shigeru Miyamoto’s name is… unusual.
Button layout FTW. With the GCN controller I could nail a 1 million point combo in THUG, while with a dual shock I struggle to even hit 400k.
still have 2 crts at my house for older consoles (mostly melee but lately lots of ps1/ps2 era jrpgs). the gamecube/ps2/xbox era is easily my favorite console generation. so many gems across all 3
Such an underrated console.
I'm so happy I have a GameCube! I got it from my grandmother when the Wii was coming out and I got smash melee with it.
Just started collecting for gamecube using my wii for backwards compatibility. Its not all crazy, insane prices. Forgot how good this system was.
Gamecube is my all time favorite console. Came out when I was 12. It was my primary system. Nothing will ever compare.
I never owned a Gamecube as a kid, but my cousins had one and it was hella fun to play on. So many memories were made playing Mario Party or Mario Superstar Baseball. A few years ago I spent a solid 70 bucks buying a black model, and I'm still building my collection today!
Thanks for the video. I agree with the many sentiments from your video to the comments that the Gamecube doesn't get the love it deserves.
Windwaker music will always hit me in the feels
this is one of the best console analysis videos i have ever seen
