Les Claypool is a phenomenal bass player. In case you didn't know Primus wrote the theme song for South Park.
& Robot Chicken
@@yankeerepairs I think the Robot Chicken one is just credited as being by Les Claypool. It was on one of his solo albums
And Seinfeld
Jonathan Wolff Slapped the Bass for the Seinfeld theme.
@@neillenet291 pretty sure seinfeld theme is actually keyboard
One of the greatest videos ever made. The costumes are just insane. The song is just fun as well.
Agreed. The song is pretty good, but the video is epic. I've never seen human dolls done so accurately.
Omgosh yes yes the funniest dam video iv ever seen wooo that beaver eats taco bell 🔔 🤣
@@Danielson1818 I believe there was an old Duracell battery ad campaign that used that same "plastic people" look :)
I just looked it up, The Putterman's was the "family name."
@@alblurky2426 Ha. That's creepy as hell. I have no idea how I've never seen that, considering the video dates to 1995. I was plenty old enough to remember that.
Primus is an extremely talented band that gets under the radar because of their eccentricity.
true that brother
Just like FZ did back in the day.
primus sucks.
@@theghostofthomasjenkins9643 good for you, you have an opinion...
@@quinceykirkland1227 i mean, that's a primus thing. the joke is they really don't suck.
Those of us whom have had our kiwis grabbed by a big brown beaver can truly relate to this song!
LOL ride m' cowboy.
..I hate when that happens
Im dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
but did it smell like 7 layers?
@Geo Dio just dont stroke that beaver {porcupine} too hard, you may get a little prick
Most people cannot appreciate the pure genius of this band. Simply amazing artists.
Welcome to the Primus wormhole, it's deep and a heck of a lot of fun. couple of songs that I recommend are,
1. My Name is Mud
2. Tommy the Cat
3. To Defy the Laws of Tradition
4. Too Many Puppies
5 Blue Collar Tweakers
Also there's only *THREE* members of the band and the singer is also the bass player.
Les Claypool is more like *THE* bass player . . .
stephens oops
Maybe add Mr Krinkle
@@timothybarham6374
I only intended that, as he is one of the all time greats- phenomenal, funky, & refined !!
- wasn't at all meant to be linguistically correcting your comment 👍
@@yankeerepairs ah no worries dude.
“It was VEEEEERY odd, but it had a good sound. “ Yeah, that’s a good way to describe Primus. My girl wasn’t all that fond of them. Then I took her to a live show and we were in the pit. Out of the hundred or so shows over the last 10 years it remains one of her favorites and opened her up to getting through the odd.
This was why Metallica passed on replacing Cliff Burton with Les Claypool (they settled on Jason Newstead). Metallica spins it as saying they thought Claypool was too good for metal when in fact they were put of by how very and deeply weird his sensibilities were. Claypool is quoted as having said that he got the impression that the band thought he was a freak... which is not wrong! He is really weird.
No way to stay in a bad mood when I hear Primus. Between the stellar musicianship and the goofball lyrics, they make me happy every time.
Primus Sucks !!
Other great tracks from this amazing trio :
Jerry Was A Race Car Driver
Tommy The Cat
Lacquer Head
My Name Is Mud
I love Primus, such a unique and awesome band. "John the Fisherman" is another great song of theirs
Primus sucks.
YES!
@@KGP2010 they suck better than any band on earth
A band I had the pleasure of seeing in a small venue in Nottingham (UK). I stood about 5 feet from Les and was blown away by the playing. One of my top 5 gigs.
Brad& Lex, I found you guys a couple of nights ago & I’m so glad I did!!! I’m 57 years old so watching your reactions to songs I’ve been listening to for years has been such a pleasure!!! Look forward to watching many more!! Good Stuff ✌️✌️✌️
In case you haven’t learned yet? Lex is a Metal Head. Just look up the earliest Metallica reactions from them. It was great till someone commented on how animated Lex was and she started holding back.
@@scottlaughlin9897, Like I said I just stumbled upon them the other night. So I am learning. But I’ve watched enough now to see what you’re saying✌️
@@scottlaughlin9897 I don't think she's less animated...she can't help herself but too be animated when she starts vibing
I'm right there with you...I'm your age and love watching 20 somethings jam to the same songs we did when we were their age
Kevin gotcha by 10, and it's like listening with new ears, watching Lex and Brad.
Primus is going on a tour called "A Tribute to Kings". They're performing Rush's album "A Farewell to Kings" in it's entirety.
I saw it this past summer and it was awesome.
I heard he hooked up with Geddy Lee a few times to get some pointers in the bass parts.
@@roniw333 I had tickets for late last year but it was canceled. I'm glad they rescheduled.
So the big brown beaver 🦫 double entendre thing went right over both of their heads 😆
LOL
Except it isn't. It's literally a song about a pet beaver. The lead singer, Les Claypool, said so himself on multiple occasions.
@@mediamammoth2675 Les is lying
@@mediamammoth2675 your gullible, its cute. Hes talking about a womans vagina, in the 90s they called a hairy one a beaver. If you listen to the first two verses their clearly speaking men having sex with her. And the third verse was about her playing with her self
I've seen these guys live. They put on a damn good show.
I never saw these guys, just 2/3rds of them in the Frog Stomp Brigade, but at Moe.down, I forget what year. They did an absolutely awesome version of Sweet Emotion, best I've seen in my life.
Saw them with Megadeath, Alice In Chains, Anthrax and Slayer a long ass time ago. One killer show by all!!!
Saw them at Michigan Theater. One of the best nights of my life
*"Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers" (Live from Woodstock '94) is another worth trying.*
I haven't heard this song in 20 years. Classic!
Their songs are all jokes and fun, But the way they all play their instruments is no joke
Saw them open for Rush back in the day. The crowd was not pleased.
If take away the weird lyrics and just focus on the playing you will realize that these guys are really talented.. Some people get hung up on the weirdness and miss the musicianship.
Yep! Les is an amazing bassist!!
Yeah, there's some real chops on display here.
Couldn't have said it any better!
Maybe not in this song, but Les does have some deep lyrics, even if they're by outrageous lyrics
MOST PEOPLE ;)
I was never a big Primus fan but I saw them live a couple years ago with Slayer and their live performance was amazing.
One of the greatest bass players of all time in my opinion. More primus
Primus is playing Rush's Farewell to Kings full album tribute this year on tour, a once in a lifetime concert.
I've been listening to Primus since Suck On This, love these guys. At some point you might consider checking out Oysterhead, a supergroup consisting of Les from Primus, Trey Anastasio from Phish, and Stewart Copeland from The Police. It's different, but top notch musicianship.
Also check out Les Claypool&Holy Mackerel
Don't forget The Claypool Lennon Delirium with Sean Lennon.
And duet with Buckethead?
And Duo de Twang with Bryan Kehoe from MIRV.
@@stanperl2003 and MIRV. "Gotta shave off those corners"
Yes what everyone says is true Les Claypool is by far one of the best bassists ever. I love them for their originality and totally out there bizarre sound. Anyone that is different and puts humor in their music is tops in my book, on that note we gotta send you down the Frank Zappa rabbit hole someday. LOL
My favorite of Primus is by far........
"Tommy The Cat" ruclips.net/video/r4OhIU-PmB8/видео.html You wanna hear someone play the bass? This is a college education in the instrument.
Peace
"She knew what she wanted!" Good call, great song!
I agree on all your points, maybe they can hit Dynamo hum next.
@@brettkenschaft4239 She was lookin' for that stud bull.....She was looking for that he cat.....And that was me.....Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee
Friggin awesome tune!!!
That guy does unholy things with the bass. And I love it.
Best part about being a Primus fan, you can hear them 24/7. Just turn on the TV, and flip channels til you get to South Park.
😊
Primus are amazing musicians! Hell of a rabbit hole to go down! I would have started with those damn bue collar tweakers, DMV, lacquer head, john the fisherman, Jilly's on smack...so many great tracks!
It’s been said before, but without the lyrics this is one of the more talented groups going!
The reason that Primus created such a sound with their music was because they hated the typical industry bands that played between the lines of what the industry wanted them to play! Les is known by many to be the best bassist ever!
Les is certainly up there, particularly with his level of exposure. Few "mainstream" bassist within the last 30years have primarily used fretless over fretted basses, and also sound good slapping on fretless.
I used to think he was the best until I heard Gary Willis and Victor Wooten, they are on another level.
Les also was turned down by metallica to replace Cliff Burton when he passed away. The reasoning was he was too good for what they write and basically told him he'd do so much better solo. He played way over their heads.
Incredible talent with a great sense of humor. Gotta love Primus.
Primus sucks
@@imadbasayev8541 if you know you know
One of the best bass players ever
ROFL....this whole song is a double entendre. Brown beaver has a very sexual slang, as well as many other references in the song.
Primus is a totally unique band. They are all awesome players. Les Claypool is a different breed of character. I definitely know all the words to this song of double entendres. Their videos are often very strange, but cool. I’ve seen them live over 20 times, from a small bar in San Francisco to Woodstock 94. When they opened for Public Enemy and Anthrax. They’re always great. I wish people could understand his lyrics better, because his lyrics are so good. Extremely clever and often hilarious. It’s a whole vibe.
Primus is one those infections bands that grow on you. The more listen to them the more you love them. They’re great!
I love everything about this song and video. I used to play this song in my office every day when it first came out, and people would ask me, what the hell are you listening to? Then they saw the video on TV and asked me what the hell was wrong with me? That just made me love the song more. Primus is and will always be and fantastic band in my genre of music.
Top 5 all time rock bass players in the world. He is crazy good! Great reaction!
This song encompasses Primus’ vibe perfectly…A song about an actual beaver that’s turned into an innuendo song/parody song! They have a sense of humor❤️
Yesss Primus. Do 'My Name is Mud' next!
Les Claypool is a musical genius who is best known for his goofy lyrics and southpark theme song but most of his work is in movie and t.v. scores.
He also auditioned for Metallica when Cliff Burton died, but he didn't get the job because "he was to good".
They said that to be nice but in truth he did not suit the band.
The only thing I remember about these guys from back in the day was the bassist was one of the best in the world and you kinda hear it in this song with those slight harmonic sounds created when you slightly touch the string in just the right spot as you pluck the string, kinda like an Eddie Van Halen technique with harmonics. This bassist can really shred it up when he wants to .
SO glad you watched the video. lol. This and Sacred Cow are my two favorites of theirs. Primus is one of a kind.
I would love to actually kick back with you two and just let some music play. I love music. My whole life. I can memorize a song that I like the first time hearing it. Blows my friends and my girls mind. Since the 80s when I was old enough to understand the world of music. It's been on. My wife laughs because I can't remember crap about what happened 3 days ago. However, I can sing along ti a song on the radio from 1976. And everything in between.
Love your videos.
There's a line in one of their songs that I heard as a kid and I've never forgotten it because of the visual. "1,000 lb guppy." Something like that & I loved that song from Primus.
Primus is a great inspiration and influence for so many young musicians
Primus is one of the most unique groups out there.
These guys played at the first concert I ever attended.apocalypse 91 tour, public enemy, Anthrax, primus, and young black teenagers,in vancouver.when this guy took the stage I was like wtf is this weird shit.i was twelve with a few 12 year old friends at a 19plus show.it was a experience all right.i was a huge PE fan .I bought the tape and day after the concert I introduced Seth Rogen to public enemy and years later he put a song I listened to on repeat with him in pinnapple express .life's crazy when you take a minute to reflect
There's a bunch of jokes behind these lyrics and they all have to do with that big, brown beaver.
This was one of my all time favorites growing up, so good
Primus covers does a version of Black Sabbath's NIB with Ozzy singing. It is quite good.
Primus is a different animal. You should check out "Tommy the cat".
I watched this when I was half asleep, and had crazy nightmares
Les Claypool is a master of his craft. Bass playing is so sweet!
Been waiting for you guys to get to this one!! 🦫🤣👍
I have seen Primus open up for Rush many, many times. Talk about a bass player's dream tour. Drummer too. Alexander ain't no slouch.
The music video that inspired "The Polar Express." LOL
Grew up with this song. Love their crazy!
Jerry was a Racecar Driver is another awesome Primus track to check out
It's one of my favorite Primas songs. It's simply a song about a girl with a pet beaver.
I saw Primus open for Rush in Chapel Hill NC in 1992 I believe. Great night
"That was very odd, but it had a good sound." Primus in a nutshell.
Back in the day, Primus was the must see show when they came to town. Great live shows! BTW...Primus sucks!!! LoL
Yep Primus Sucks.
Wife here..This song was big during mine and my Husband's college days...He will sing this word for word and it still CRACKS ME UP!! Thanks guys!!
Great musicians with a crazy sense of humor
Primus is...Primus... I love them, Les Claypool is one of the best...ever. Period. Just saw them last fall in concert. Awesome.
Primus has a lot of songs where you're like "why don't I hate this? Why is this song in my head?" LOL. You'll like lacquer head by primus
I really do love Wynona's big brown beaver.
Les Claypool did the theme song for South Park
There is only one Primus. Talent flows ... But they are definitely weirdos. Love it.
Primus live is something everyone should experience......more than once
There's a video floating around on UTube that shows them making this video...the costumes alone are insane.
Les Claypool now makes music with John Lennon's son, Sean. Phenomenal stuff
Primus are some the most creative mofos ever! There's a reason why they are basically considered their own genre of music.
Primus and/or ANYTHING Les Claypool does is without a doubt music that has to be seen live to genuinely appreciate. it's a perfect concoction of funk and rock and roll,, with a tad of psychedelics!
There's a lot going in in this somg musically. The lyrics and video can be distracting, but if you know Primus well, everything meshes together as perfectly as it can be.
Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers is probably more your speed. Still weird as it is Primus but the more you listen the more you’ll get it! I’ve seen Primus 3 times and two of Les Claypools other bands once each. Had an incredible time at every show!
The Sailing the Seas of Cheese album is a masterpiece and Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers is my favorite on it.
Claypool Lennon Delerium is worth checking out. Les and Sean are two super talented musicians bringing the world on a psychedelic trip.
One of the best pieces of work I have heard in a long time. Blood and Rockets is a masterpiece.
Primus bass player is a tremendous bass player. This dude can shred on the bass
I was playing Zelda on NES in my room alone with this album on repeat for days on end...
Y'all's faces switched almost immediately! Lol
At first: Brad was digging it and Lex looked perplexed.🤔
Then at the same moment: She started buying in, and Brad looked. Concerned! 😂
Les Claypool the singer and bass player auditioned for Metallica and they told him dude you got your own thing going on, go do it. They were blown away by his playing but didn't believe he would be a good fit.
drummer never gets the credit he deserves because les is a monster on bass.
The guitar playing is sublime!
It's funny because they're entranced with the weirdness of the video. Primus is like a trip it can hit people wrong if they're not guided or accompanied right lol.
Whoa yall just uploaded this today? I was just looking for primus.. and yall uploaded it . . and . . .this means something... THIS MEANS SOMETHING! :)
There's definitely a bit of double entendre going here, with an actual big brown beaver and the other kind of beaver, lol. Pointing it out just in case some of the younger people here don't get it! Soul Asylum's singer, Dave Pirner, got pissed off about this song, refusing to believe it wasn't about his girlfriend at the time, Winona Ryder, and renamed one of his songs "Les Claypool's A Big F--king Asshole" in concert. ;)
I wonder if they realize that this is about a lady's sexy bits
Finally more Primis reaction from u, they are an usual taste but soooo good
Going to be going to see them in August, I can hardly wait!
Yes Primus! More! It's a real band of rock. Sounds like nothing, energy, don't care of nothing, cartoon punk, and high level instrumental. A lot of surprises because they're kids un america😄
woah, brad smiled. that's the most reaction i've ever seen from his cranium
The key to understanding and enjoying Primus is knowing these guys are great musicians just looking to have some fun. Their music and lyrics are silly and funny. They’re intentionally weird and always comical.
They put on an awesome show their gigs are really fun
Love how she bounced to the music....she got "it"
Southbound pachyderm, my name is mud, Mr Krinkle, over the falls and shake hands with beef. Love Primus
Fantastic. Primus. Can't believe this was a reaction song!
Incredible stuff, as always, from Primus.
One of the best bassists ever
It's not the song guys...it's Primus! They aren't for everyone but they're very musically inclined lol. Les once tried out for playing bass in Metallica and they told him he was too good.
They had a better bass player than Les that passed away. So why was he allowed in the band? Dumbest fake rumor I ever heard.
@@pauljohnson3524 not a rumour. It’s well documented Les tried out for Metallica & he’s also big pals with Kirk. Pretty sure Kirk is in the video for John the Fisherman
@@pauljohnson3524 It's not fake, just not retold right. He was too much of a bass player, as in "no room for that here, start your own band you crazy, crazy weirdo".
At that point in time, they didn't really want a bass player. They got Newsted, sure, but then they turned down all the bass-related knobs on the mix console.
@@pauljohnson3524 He auditioned during the auditions to replace the best player in the world, Cliff Burton...who died...it's a very well known story that has been described by both sides. Not a fake rumor.
@@Malfehzan correct. It's not because he was too good. He is good but not better than Cliff Burton was. So it's just silly when people put it that he was too good. I agree with the way you put it as well just not how others do.
Brad HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS.???????
Fun fact.......those cowboy outfits made (quicker) movements fairly difficult, so they had to play the song at something close to half-speed in order for the guys to be able to keep up. Then the video was sped up and synched to the normal song. This is why their movements look a little strange.
The song was played at 75% pace. The video was also shot at 18 frames a second. That way, when they transferred the film to video tape and converted it to 24 frames a second, the music and video became synchronized.
@@mocthezuma I knew someone would have the precise data. Thanks!
Not only are those outfits scary, but imagine seeing them while you're tripping!!!
PRIMUS were a spoof band formed out of thrash band BLIND ILLUSION and Death Metal pioneers POSSESSED. They stuck it out because the 90s was THE decade for spoof bands like Mr. Bungle, Presidents Of The U.S.A., etc. People were really into randomness and meaningless songs at the time. PRIMUS were smart enough to capitalize on those kids and made bank doing so. It didn't hurt that Les is a very skilled bassist, so every other bassist bought their records.
If y’all remember back to the Limewire and KaZaa days, Primus had its own music genre. They’re the only band with their own IC3 genre
