Correct about the costumes taken from those battery commercials. There were similar looking " toys " with batteries on their back, which i believe was the inspiration
That is one of their commercial hits, if you want more it goes WAY deeper and stranger, but just as musically tight. Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, My name is Mud, and Tommy the Cat are some of the more popular song by Primus. All good.
Primus have been around for a while if you watch South Park they wrote the theme song for South Park the bass player is les claypool is one of the best bass players around he audition for Metallica and I told him he was too good for their band the next song to do my name is mud you won’t be disappointed great chat on my watch for dinner

Tommy the Cat, Jerry Was A Racecar Driver, My Name is Mud, Those Damn Blue-Collar Tweakers (live version), John the Fisherman, Too Many Puppies. They’ve gone through several lineup changes on drums / guitar, but the singer/bassist has always been Les Claypool, considered by many to be the (or one of the) most innovative, creative, best bass players ever. The story that I heard is that when Metallica’s original bass player died in a tragic bus wreck, Les knew the guys in Metallica, and as a show of respect he came & played for them as an audition of sorts, and according to Metallica’s drummer, Lars Ulrich, after he finished the Metallica guys basically said, “Hey, thanks for stopping by, we appreciate ya, but you’re basically too good, you’d be bored playing our songs”. Or something along those lines. Enjoy! Primus sucks! (That’s a common, ironically affectionate things Primus fans say about them) 😁
Great reaction, if you haven’t you should check out John the fisherman by primus. Les claypool is a bass playing genius. He actually auditioned for Metallica twice back in the day when they were looking for a bass player. Not gonna lie it would have been interesting having someone that plays bass almost as heavy as the their original bass player cliff did.
This song is famous because when the video got big on MTV back then, people thought it was about Winona Ryder's "big brown beaver"... lol Became one of the first memes of the age of the Internet...
Primus is : Frontman, bass+vox- Les Claypool.. Larry LaLonde- Guitar > wellknown member in former legendary thrash/death Metal band, canadian "Possessed" . Man behind the drumkit, is in my top3 among rock/metal drummers - Mr. Tim Alexander. video is filmed 50% slower, than the version we hear. Primus wanted their play-back to look real, even though the rubber cowboy suit, made movement almost impossible!!!!
Damnnnnn. I forgot about those commercials! You just wrinkled my brain. I am so interested in how these costumes work. What are they made of? So strange.
It was a Duracell commercial. I think they took the idea from it, but never looked into it, always assumed. Also, you can bond with your uncle over Primus now.
This video came out right around the same time as the battery commercial. So, they were definitely inspired by that. A lot of their songs are kind of funny, but they're VERY talented musicians.
@@GhostwheelProduction It's not a parody of the Energizer Bunny commercial. It's a parody of this type of commercial: ruclips.net/video/Y8IuZ67QDl8/видео.html
They've definitely been around since the 90's cuz i remember their videos on MTV when i was younger. The music sounds great, but their lyrics are dumb, lol. The main reason i listen to music for is lyrics, so it'd be hard for me to justify bumping them on my own free time, personally, but i really like the rest of the music.
Hey Dad, yeah - all the commenters have already said it but ... Les Claypool is genius on base. I remember the first song i heard from them was 'My name is mud' which got a lot of air play at the time. i didn't love, LOve it but i really liked the base so i kind of got into him/them a little bit. i'm not really into the sorta 'weird AL' vibes in a lot of his songs with the respect of the supposed humor, but that's just me. one of my favorite songs that i don't think i've seen mentioned is a deep, deep cut under his name (les claypool) instead of Primus is called 'Geoge E. Porge'. i don't know why i love it so much... but damn, i really do. i'm gonna try and add a link to it cuz the non-live one is my favorite version. i really hope someone else likes it like i do so i don't feel so crazy:) -barbie ruclips.net/video/t8EUKFRFmiU/видео.html ps - Primus sucks
Sure you aren't thinking if Max headroom (not sure how it's spelt but I pronounce it hedrum) when you see the costumes? That's what came to mind for me
My oldest primus CD is a live recording from feb 1989, so they been around Les claypool (bassist) auditioned for Metallica after cliff burton died, think was equal parts he didn’t get the gig because they thought he would try to bring too much of his own ideas, and because he was too good and had a future on his own path

Although often comical, Primus touch some seriously dark subjects in their lyrics. Many songs about severe drug use that paints it in a very tragic light.
It takes a little getting used to but the bass is front and center with Primus. Les Claypool, the bassist, is considered by most to be in the top 5 all time bassists. Primus is often mischaracterized as a "silly" band but they touch on dark subject matter. It's probably due to their more silly songs being the most popular.

Les Claypool is a madman on the bass.
