Stair lighting proof of concept
In this project I have built a LED stair lighting. The stair has 3 stair parts. For every stair are two sensors. The sensors detect when someone go up or downstairs and switch the light on or off. I used digital LEDs so you can switch every single LED seperate and you are able to make cool on and off move effects.
The LED stripe run on 5V. That's a bit difficult, but it works when you plan a good power grid.
Features
Digital LEDs
Automatic switch on and off when you go up or downstairs
Position light for the first and last step when it is dark
Optional wifi controll for ambientelight
Timer off when light is on and no sensor for off is detected
Electronic Parts
APA102 warm white digital LEDs 144/m
Power supply 5V/50A
Power supply 5V/35A
Teensy 3.2 Microsontroller to control the LEDs
Arduino Nano on each sensor for more flexibility and better
communication over the long cables
Ultrasonic HC-SR04 or PIR sensor on stairs top and bottom
Thick cable for the 5v power line
Analog Brightness sensor
3D printed Parts
Ultrasonic or Pir case
Hardware parts
Aluminium LED profiles
I used drywall to mount the profiles
Notes
The PIR Sensor works better than the Ultrasonic HC-SR04
The Ultrasonic are more unstable and not so fast in my case
The system works good but I think about some updates
*Design a PCB for the Teensy
*RS 485 communication between sensor and Teensy. I think it is
better against electrical interference.
*Software optimizations
