Refurbished is defined as cleaning the shell casing, cleaning the fan grills and do a factory reset. Nobody cares about disassembling the console, evicting the dust bunnies that have gathered over the years, replacing the heatsink compound, relubing the fan bearings, replacing the hard drive / SSD, putting everything back together and doing a final test to make sure everything is working perfectly. They just want to pull a fast one.

Not trying to be a D-head. Those little sporadic specs all over the screen are called artifacts. Not static. It is a clear sign of hardware problems. Either the graphics chip in the APU is flawed or there is failure in power delivery to the APU and the graphics chip is failing to render the graphics. The APU could easily have overheated to cause that damage.
Yo, everyone’s saying it’s a issue with the GPU, but considering you had to repair the system when you booted it up, maybe that’s a issue with the SSD being corrupted or something?? I’m watching now and you’ve just booted into safe mode, but you can actually wipe the SSD and re install the operating system. Might not work but worth a shot...
Smells like a memory issue to me. I've never encountered a broken GP in an APU, and the quality control on AMD's side is air-tight, so chances are the APU is fine. GDDR6, however - which the PS5 uses as both video and system memory - is notorious for running hotter than previous generations and thus being more prone to failure. Reballing the memory chips might temporarily circumvent the issue. Chances are, though, that console is toast unless you outright replace the (V)RAM, the difficulty of which might range from extremely hard to outright impossible, and even if you find someone willing to do it, it's likely going to be prohibitively expensive. Hope you got your money back for this one.
I read the other comments but why wouldn't Sony honor the 1 year warranty on this ? Also not every person that sells used or refurbished things is the same as the seller you bought from. I just don't see it as fair when anyone blankets all of the refurbishers or used consoles because of one experience.
sony will just keep the console and either email you or send you a letter saying you can’t get console back because its “broken” but real reason is because they were bought off resellers, i just happened to see a video last night where it happened to someone on youtube

Call me a pessimist but I believe that someone was seeing if they could pull it off knowing that it still not functioning properly hoping you wouldn't bother returning it or had trouble getting a full refund.

I have a friend who bought a PS5 for her kids last year for $800 then just two weeks ago, her kids knocked it over damaging the hdmi port. Since I’ve repaired consoles in the past, she asks me if I could fix it. The port was bent in towards the motherboard and broke off a tiny capacitor. Not having the proper tools to fix something so small I tell my friend that I can’t fix it. She then tells me to keep it, that she’ll by another. Now I finally have a PS5 and only have to pay for the repair myself. That’s the cheapest I’d ever pay for PS5

Refurbished is fine if you get it from the right place. I wouldn't trust random Ebay sellers/companies as a general rule - not unless they were very well established for some time doing it, had substantial feedback, and a full warranty program for what you buy.
New always, agree.
Amen refurbished is garbage lol
I bought a brand new one on eBay
You can get refurbished but not right now with the ps5 still very high in demand. You can’t trust people right now to do their due diligence.
Always leave a negative review on ebay with a slight explanation to warn others it doesn't matter if the seller has a million items or positive reviews its common courtesy to other buyers on rip u off bay!
It could be an honest mistake, seller needs to apologize, compensate you including return shipping cost, also check his reputation. Then use your judgment whether to leave negative or not.
Lol rip you off bay, i just hope i get my processor that i ordered the tracking hasnt been updated yet, and i ordered my item on the 18th, my first experience on ebay wasnt bad how ever i waited almost 2 months for my package, even with priority shipping to africa, which was crazy expensive
I refuse to buy anything from these types of websites or similar. Keeps me from aggravation & headaches.
Make sure you give the ebay seller a negative review, so nobody else falls victim.

It might have a bad APU which causes glitches on the screen.
Similar to the Xbox 360 red ring of death. Sometimes the screen glitches out and u get RROD
XBOX 360 RROD wasnt a bad APU but due to thermal stresses of the poor cooler mounting/thermal design. The PS5 cooler does not have this poor design and this is likely not the issue.

I had this exact problem happening to my pc, I haven't trusted second hand pc parts ever since, and with my tiny budget taken into count and way to much time and effort wasted on fixing my pc I started investing in consoles.
I'm a console gamer myself but I have a pc for other stuff that I keep running. Don't give up in pc's over that, there's a learning curve but you can get quality parts for cheap that aren't second hand if you look around.
Some times it's cheaper to buy a new PC vs getting it repaired. That's why people buy new ones every 2-3 years plus it all depends on the usage

Yea. It’s the gpu. It seemed like once the gpu was put to work with games it would stop working. Could be overheating or just on its way out.
Don’t think I’ll be buying a refurbished ps5 , great video thanks for sharing .
Hope you got your money back
Not trying to be a D-head.
$800 is absolutely insane especially for this piece of junk! Sorry man!
Well, that's a let down. I'd definitely return it and get your money back.
Facts I bought a few refurbished consoles and I had no problems out of them 💯
Each their own eh lol
sony will just keep the console and either email you or send you a letter saying you can’t get console back because its “broken” but real reason is because they were bought off resellers, i just happened to see a video last night where it happened to someone on youtube
Those graphical artifacts aren’t a good sign.. something is going to go bad with the APU
The gpu seems to have been overheated at some point. I had a video card that did similar graphical defects to what was seen on Astros play room
So you woke up one day and decided it would be a good idea to hop on eBay and spend $799 on a refurbished PS5? OK.

Ohh interesting. I guess in reality it could happen to any console
