I didn’t know things could get worse than what dkoldies has been doing with refurbished consoles… yet here we are. Retrovgames is not only selling non-refurbished consoles as refurbished, but they are doing some other sketchy things as well… let me know what you think. Was this PS3 worth $400?

Would you pay $400 for this PS3?
Hell no 400 is wayyyy to much especially since it’s not cleaned 🤮
@@aroundtheblockwithbrock4799 yeh I could have just bought it from the guy on eBay for $200 or so lol
I cant wait for the video of DKOldies getting lawsuit
I got a CECHA01 (Hardware backwards compatible ps3) for 250. Was delidded and thoroughly cleaned. I'll always trust ebay over anyone.
SO, I've recently bought a Xbox Original, Wii(GameCube Compatible), Wii U, PS2, PS3(Super Slim), and Xbox 360( Slim with 250 or something i forgot) ALL for 370 dollars All of these had OEM controller and 2 each, but for the Original Xbox, and it came with a OEM and 1 generic knock off..... which is honesty better. So no
Retro vGames having a 121 day warranty while DKOldies has a 120 day warranty is literally just that SpongeBob episode where The Krusty Krab is open for 24 hours because The Chum Bucket is open for 23 hours.
💀💀
No it's not. They are two different things all together. One is an episode of a cartoon and one is a shop. Please don't use the word "literally" if you actually mean "figuratively"
Great comparison. Both the Krusty Krab and the Chum Bucket are sketchy, greedy companies too.
@@AzumiRM you are so fun at parties!!!
Azum read what you said again before speaking
if dk oldies is terrible i wasn’t expecting a knock off to be any better
Yeah, to be fair if you're comparing anyone to DKOldies, you're not setting the bar very high
RIght? Like the knock off is aiming to be bad / worse than what its copying lol
$400 for a PS3 is just insane! Who would pay that this day in age
Someone with an excess in money but a lack in sense lol
Well, it is a backwards compatible and original controller; so it is kind of worth more to some, I'd guess? (Not that much though, maybe; unless boxed?
Wasn't the ps3 $500 when it debuted?
$400 for ANY used console is just ridiculous. Is the seller throwing in some gold and diamonds with it?
@@fishguru2576 599$ or even 699$ not sure but at the price of a ps5 the last years.
worth the price ? no not at all, go buy a 60$ ps3 and let someone clean it for another 50/100$ then you have it 3x cheaper or do it by yourself.
I sell on eBay from time to time, and I have to be honest, if someone buys something from me and asks me to send it to anywhere other than the registered address for that account, I would refuse. Opens you up to all sorts of risk.
That's so sketch when they do that. Sure there might be genuine reasons but you do right to protect yourself and your eBay rep against the negative feedback 👍
I bought a backward compatible 80GB PS3 in march. 200$, did deepclean/repaste and put a SSD in it. For less than 260$, it was an amazing deal on my side. Plus, the exterior looks mint.
Nice !
That’s the way to do it 👍
Nice! Any recommendations for an SSD? Got a 60GB recently.
All PS3 models are backwards compatible with PS1 games tho
@@katsudon2048Only the older ps3 models are backwards compatable with ps2 games
Well , if they are trying to copy DKOldies I think they are doing a pretty good job .
It’s not copying dkoldies it’s doing it better by drop shipping using eBay. Better in since of not having to have a console to sell in store but that’s just as bad if not worse than dkoldies. I think it’s a worse situation than dkoldies coping the idea ten times worse than dkoldies.
Dropshipping with no contact when it's advertised as refurbished is definitely a case for false advertising, not that anything will be done, places like this and dk oldies are starting to give retro gaming resellers a bad look. Tbh I'm sticking to Cashies and Ebay cause at least I know what I'm getting into for the most part
lawsuit time. They were false advertising and thats grounds for a lawsuit
Your videos always reinforces the dread of remembering I still need to repaste my ps3.
I would recommend to De-lid (there’s thermal paste above but also under the lid of both Cell and RSX chips) to get thermal conductivity back to normal. NSC Modz explains how to on youtube.
@@thomasandrews9355 psx-place has a nice tutorial on how to do it using cutting wire and a folded piece of aluminum that prevents the edge used to cut from going in further than it needs to. the spatula method can lead to chip death with the slightest slip.
the psx-place method works a treat.
that said, if your unit isn't overheating (after repasting the top of the heat spreaders), then don't delid. it should only be a last resort option. and should always be done as slowly as you can manage, to minimize any possible chance of problems.
@@jean-baptisteminaud9164 As someone who has built many computers and even fixed some consoles before even I'm scared of trying to de-lid a CPU. :/
Is that a Tomba! (or Tombi) avatar ?

i knew there would be a day when we finally found bugs inside the consoles. today is finally that day and i'm shocked that someone could willingly sell that at that price as "refurbished" and be ok with themselves 😵💫
To be fair maybe the original seller never claimed it was refurbished ?
Dropshipping is a scummy thing, especially from just random e-bay listings.
So many are like that which is why I avoid this old stuff like the plague. Just gross
Y'know when a store is trying to be DkOldies, y'know it's GOOD :)
Fr
Yup, if someone thinks DK are a gold standard competitor they must really be aiming to succeed at business. 🤔😁
Jacob is gonna have some new disease no one has ever heard of from opening all those consoles.
I apologise for my the following comment; Specialist Doctor: 'It's a bug of *some* kind! How did you get it?'.👾👾👾👾
Interesting story... I got a game from them. An N64 game... and they sent me a bootleg game with alot of the hallmarks of it being a bootleg game.
Yikes 😬
These videos are making me consider making my own DKOldies "knockoff" except I actually do the physical labor required to call something refurbished. I do it for fun already and feel like people would love a seller who has respect for the hardware.
Try it.
You would make the retro collecting hobby a great favour. We need more passion
7:15 when that tail looking thing flew out I couldn't believe it haha, so many retro scam companies these days... it's such a shame
I imagined a 'free, yippee' sound effect; as per some previous videos, I must say!
Seeing that dead bug fall across the base actually scared me too! I'm not good when it comes to things with more than 4 legs. :)
TO be honest you can run a hairdryer over the warranty sticker and get it loose enough to peel it back and re-stick it later. BTW I like your foreshadowing subtitles, cracks me up lol
that smile when Jacob saw the warranty seal intact XD "You know what that means!" 😂
Great content Jacob, and at 7:20 what came out of your ps3 was one of the legs of a centipede. Crazy lol
Untill I found your channel I didn't even know about thermal paste or opening up consoles. I would have just checked the outside and made sure it ran. Now I inspect everything, so thanks for that. This PS3 is absolutely vile
I hope you gave it the cleaning it deserves, i hate to see a good working console stay nasty.
I bought a 360 Slim from Ebay because I was interested in refurbishing consoles, and it will filled with black dust (it was mainly on the plastic cover inside). My first assumption was that it was inside a building that was on fire but the strangest thing is that it didn't smell or anything. The funniest thing is that it worked, I had to change the thermal paste which is expected but I had no idea what that black dust was from.
Dirt accumulation
400 for a PS3!!!???
It's insane retro gaming company's have inflated the prices so much.
A big issue with consoles and they still do it to this day is negative air pressure for cooling. No matter how hard you try to keep the house and console clean, when they're using a pull method rather than a positive push, you will end up with caked dust everywhere. It pulls air from every little gap rather than pushing through one inlet
bothering to get 40gb hardrives is probably not worth their time so they probably hope people select the 80gb option at the least and pay a bit more. who has ever complained about having a bigger hd
I agree, absolutely disgusting and shameful.. (company even more than the console.) After seeing a few of your videos, I definitely feel the console conditions are worse in the US than the UK after the years (probably different climate w/ bugs etc.) with preowned consoles, unless I've gotten really lucky and the consoles I order second hand and from shops have been looked after by previous owner. The listing says "discounted" (idk) but turns up in nice condition.
Ok let's talk about that ad read though. That transition was pretty amazingly thought out though!
LOL I’m from Allentown and I’ve only heard bad things about them. Cool to see them get called out on their bullshit
Thank you so much. I was going to buy a Vita from these guys but after I watched the DKoldies videos I was skeptical. I looked for videos and there wasn’t any till now. Thank you
Just buy one from eBay.
Just emulate and avoid old technology
All that dust seems to transfer heat fairly well.
hey Jacob, do you know if xbox 360 servers shut down, can i still buy discs and play them if they require internet connection?
The very first consoles that were 40 gb , 60 gb and 80gb came later, there are 3 models that have tbe 4 usbs in the front that run ps1 and ps2 games.
omg. i have never seen this before at all. the worst dusty console i have ever seen. keep up the good work. your dkoldies videos are so intresting to me along with your i bought a something series. keep it up
They could be bundles for your stock queries at 4:07 there is 6 bundles with the game and 15 without. The 2nd one you added did not have the game ticked. Adding the basket might not take away from stock that is just a process flaw.
Dropshipping in this case is illegal as they are stating you are reciving a "refurbished" product but they have no way to verfiy if it is actually been refurbished by the seller which they are buying then reshelling to you.
Seller should have also ran the fan test to kick some extra dust out. For these E models, turn the console on it's side (warranty sticker facing the sky), then power the console on and hold it for 1 minute.
You can put the fan on max for a short period; that could help to clear a bit, perhaps? [I forget how it works, at the moment, but it does].
To be fair he was selling as is condition.
I have a question, and its something that always gets me and I bet I'm not the first: WHY DONT YOU HAVE VACUUM CLEANER NEARBY??! pleeaaaseee show us a quick effort on the video man, its so easy!!
I live about 10 minutes from DK Oldies, all of us in the greater Philly Metro know this place is a scam we’ve known for years. Crazy how big this got out of nowhere
Thanks Jacob R for risking your lungs and respiratory system to give us this content
😳
What do you do with all these consoles after the video? Do you clean them and put new thermal paste on and sell them?
Maybe some employees Dkoldies broke away from the store and got a bit of inventory to set up another shop across the street without joey's influence.
Toxic workplace much? 🤔
You never know lol
@@DubberRucks Family is involved too I bet, I wouldn't tarnish my relationship with them for joey's meager restitution.
Because of all the horror I have witnessed on your channel, you better believe if I want an older game or console I will be heading straight to your website
Wonder if it’s a backup business for when DKOldies goes out of business they can run operations under that one?
You should try dkoldies wii u, 1 wii u out of 3 has a faulty nand (storage) chip from the brand hynix that has a very hight failure rate, if they send a faulty one that should definitely be considered a scam because all hynix wii u have a limited lifespan.
It would be really interesting if dkoldies at least checked the nand, and in order to do this you either need to take it apart or mod it, and since dkoldies are "refurbishing" them they should know the brand.
At the very least they should clarify if the console has the faulty chip and discounting it.
Geez. I've got a brand new PS4 Piano Black 80Gb (non BC) model. I might have opened it to make sure it powered on at the time- but I can't remember. .. I'd be more than happy to sell it for 400. I also have an unopened PS2 Slim. At the time, I picked them up (at diff times obv.) when they were deeply price cut as their support was ending (The PS3 fat was when the slims were around and nobody wanted the fats).
Checking out this video after I bought a ps3 and this prices have dropped so I don’t think they’re down shipping or getting paid more but now I’m very worried that I won’t get what I paid for, any tips for if it’s a lil fucked?
I always wondered what my ps4 looked like inside. I owned it for 6 years and smoked bud and dabs all day while playing. The vents had stuff that looked like fur in it before I sold it lol
My friend once bought me a "working" "refurbished" ps3 controller from RetroVgames. It was a real ps3 dualshock.. But.... there was issues. I dont fully know how to explain it. But it seems like they opened the controller and somehow wired the RB button to Square on the controller. While playing RE5 a game you aim with RB with if i presser Sqaure my character would aim.... yeah we returned that controller.
Drop shipping is usually good until one time a stolen credit card was used to make the product purchase and ship the product to me. Talk about a mess makes an innocent buyer look guilty. Took months to resolve.
Is it me or did backwards compatible PS3's used to be more expensive? I'm looking right now on ebay and they seem to be floating around the $200 mark, which has me pretty suprised tbh.
And strangely the new owner posts on Reddit saying they got it for 40
Looks like a house centipede from what I can see. I'm not positive though. Could be any number of creepy crawlies. Always appreciate your vids brother. Cheers!
That was a dead house centipede in it I'm pretty sure, but I would call this Desert PS3 2
You know it's a top tier establishment when they send you your gaming console in a Delta Sink box.
Ive never had a system with bugs but ive had systems with so much dust that you could pull it off the psu like lint in a dryer
That is looking a lot like the console I have when I finally did this I purchased it new and never did this until beginning of this year without the dead bugs.
Honestly I think most RUclipsrs milked the “refurbished” but actually not console vids, but I still enjoy watching them since it’s entertaining during my lunch break. I also prefer hearing Jacobs ASMR type voice over my co-workers 😂
Anybody who continues to buy from these companies who claim to refurbish their consoles is crazy. If you wanna collect or play older systems you really need to learn to refurbish and upkeep your own electronics.
That tail that came out of the PS3 was definitely a scorpion tail. Wonder where the rest of it went...
It’s mind boggling that after all these years and decades of Consoles we’ve never seen a PlayStation, Nintendo, and or Xbox designed with something so simple as basic dust filters for the fan intakes and then we’d never have dust inside Our Consoles as we’d simply remove the dust filter every few months wipe it off and put it back in !
Many Pc cases have had dust filters built in for a long time, and even some power supply units have dust filters and you’d think that Console manufacturers would wanna go the extra mile for Us and design the systems with dust filters
That bug in there is disgusting!
Jacob R:
*gets package thats slightly dented*
Jacob R: "I hope this console works"
I miss your foreign discs video. When can you do those again?
Reasons I've never wanted to open old electronics:
I had the same 80g BC ps3 all those years ago and I miss it so much, loved using it for everything I had! Honestly I need another one lol
"Plenty of good cases for drop shipping" I'd love to hear at least one for a customer unwittingly paying more than they should for an item.
A tad bit off topic, but I went through this drop shipping one time while looking for an aluminum ladder on ebay and thinking I was purchasing from an individual who had the item on hand but when I got the package it was fresh from Home Depot. Kinda pissed me off. 🤨
Many businesses have drop shipping agreements in place. It’s not always predatory like you see in this case. For example… Manufacturer is good at making product, bad at marketing and selling. Manufacturer makes agreement with a business that is good at selling products. Then Business sells product to customer, but manufacturer ships straight to customer. There you go, drop shipped. You’re forgetting about an entire segment of the market.
@@jrob0021 Appreciate the clarification. 👍

I've had to dropship a few times in the rare case that something doesn't work on my end, but I've always been at a loss as I want the consumer to still get something that I sold to them. Sometimes it makes sense, but a lot of the time, it's just someone trying to make some money without any labor.
How is not illegal to claim something is refurbished when it isn’t? Surely there should be consumer protection laws to prevent that?
How does a console get that dirty? i opened my 2009 PS3 yesterday (i removed warranty sticker) and it had the thinest layer of dust imaginable.
Some folks simply do not clean their spaces.
Mine was from 2012 and same story, I didn't exactly go easy on it either
Some places are just particularly dusty to live in. I'm in Texas and my car will get a small coat of dust if I don't drive for a couple days.
"One of its legs flew out."
Bruh. ☠️
I wanna get a gamecube but it seems all these sellers are unreliable. Where should i buy one from?
I have the same air filter red blinking light means change the filter then you hold the button when you do change it to reset it it will be green light
Wow, I can understand drop-shipping new products, but Used and selling it as refurbished/cleaned? How does one sleep at night knowing this is how they treat other human beings?
7:20 my eyes about bulged out of my head when I realized that looked like a Scorpion tail
I got my PS3 and PS4 with 6 games total from a retro store for less than $500. They work great, granted they sound like trains but an effort was made to keep them in as good a shape as possible.
The PS3 was also listed as 120gb but is about 240gb instead so that's a bonus point.
Jacob I really appreciate that you reviewed this console risking your lungs and health
Thank god I saw this video I was almost about to buy a new 3ds from there
$404?!
BC PS3s are pricey but I wouldn't expect to see them over $350 (usually closer to $300).
Pretty sure there are, in fact, backwards compatible ps3s with 40 gb hdds, the cheaper of the 2 launch day models to be exact
not like it makes the state of the console ok, just putting a small correction out there
Drop shipping is perfectly legal. The problem is when it comes to things that might get dirty... like a video game console.
What if the console you're drop shipping doesn't work? Who's gonna take the blame?
I got my ps3 backwards on day one 599.99 I wonder if it’s dirty inside. I have never opened it but clean it a lot and it hardly has any scratches. I’m afraid to take it apart and clean it.
So that retro video games store just do dropshipping huh ???
I just cleaned out a 3000 ps3 and it was 200% more clogged than that one.
you can literally buy Frankenstein modded consoles for that price, as in re-capped and rsx swapped units that will never yellow light of death.
I bought a ps2 one game and a n64 controller from this website and the game never came until I email them stating that I didn’t receive the game . They send a modded ps2 with a 3 party controller not working and console was in Chinese. Hat to buy another ps2 with original controller for 100 just to see if the console they send me would work and actually did just had to change language . But honestly very sketchy store I will rather but from

Perhaps the extra money was charged for the bugs and the sand pit for the bugs to live in? Well, it's gotta come from somewhere, right? (Just some thoughts on this one!). (LOL).
My Fat BC 60GB has NO scratches. I used car wax on it since it was new and a microfiber towel.
Ok so I've been here in person. I live 30 mins away lmao. They were hiring and I had applied only to find out that they pay very little compared to the area, the hours are terrible, and when I went in and browsed around the shop, which is very very small, the prices were all over the place. I picked up final fantasy tactics for the gba for 20 bucks which at the time was about standard price, but they were offering 30 bucks for copies of pokemon fire red, and selling them loose for 150. Emerald loose for 250 same with crystal. It was a very odd place with prices just all mucked up.

I'm going to assume that dkoldies buys retrovgames inventory when it comes to dirty consoles at a low price
This has been going on for ages, refurbished consoles are only truly sold from hobbyists. Shops don’t refurbish I once bought a bc from uk, from adkowa_0, there was even written that the necs had been replaced and it was delidded. When it arrived console still had the warranty sticker on. When I messaged the seller, he kept repeating it was refurbished. Lost cause.
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, some of these clowns don't even know how to use the word "refurbished" properly.
I think that’s worst than DK, drop shipping not even really knowing what the seller will send. At least DKO would have a chance to refurbish their products if they could just put the joint down for a few lol.
Personally the whole warranty sticker is *very* sketchy, and basically is there to make sure you can’t open the console, find that they scammed you, and then get your money back because of the fact you voided their warranty. Absolute bull****.
0:54 i played so many hours of uncharted 3 demo closest game they have to that demo nowadays is the Halo infinite demo
I don’t even wanna imagine what it would be like if this RetroVGames sold iPhones. I would have wasted $300 on a bent iPhone 6 with activation lock.
Btw that dead bug you found is a house centipede😂
Why wouldn’t he rub off that dust on the hard drive before putting it in 😣
That’s just ridiculously bad, it’s DKScamies all over again! 😮
