I’ve gotten it to balance with the 955 batteries, 18-35, Matte box + 4x5 filter. I had to make some counter weights that Velcro to the batteries, but it works
Those shots were soooo sick, but damn what a pain in the fuckin ass of a gimbal, lol. Thanks for doing all the work in the trenches for us to figure all of this out
Excellent video as always Cam! Could you do a video on how you go about the creative process for making a video? Like how you come up with creative concepts or how you get inspiration for video ideas consistently?
Great info! Similar experience on the Crane 2S, am able to fly Komodo minus batteries and added v mount with cable, camera stripped down. Can get the Tokina cine 11-20 to fly on it though. Heavy rig, but a good option.
thanks for this great video!!! I didn't buy a DJI Ronin RS2!!! Can you Tell me a another Giebel there fits with the Komodo??? I love your Colorgrade ❤️
2 Month ago it was „c70 or Komodo“ and basically every video youtuber couldn’t make a decision. Now that both cams are out, the Komodo owners have a „love/hate“ relationship and all the c70 owners are just completely in love with their new camera. 😅 Very entertaining to watch...
Yeah the hard part with being an early buyer is we gotta find the use cases for each camera. The C70 is a great camera, but if I was shooting a big $100k commercial.. I wouldn’t be using the C70.. I’d def go with the Komodo. With that said, the Komodo is still a bit beta. A lot of people are learning to use this higher end system that takes much more processing power so we don’t have some of the bells and whistles that other cameras. Each system is a give and take. Majority of the top pros I met who are doing BIG work are shooting on red with zero complaints. That’s the level I wanna be on so that’s the camera system I’m investing too.
The main issue with these kind of gimbals is always clearance. The Crane 3S has enough, but despite the greater torque in its motors, the algorithm in them is not as polished as the RS2's. Besides, you need a vest if you plan to shoot all day with that thing. Did you hear that Tilta is going to sell a Trinity-like system for this gimbal? Is gonna include V-Mount or Gold Mount options. That could be the solution for battery clearance (I hope so). I had the same hassles that you have with both the Crane 2 and 3 Lab for an S1H but decided not to "upgrade" to the Crane 3S. I had enough of Zhiyun and was planning to buy the RS2, but I'm not pretty sure right now. Any advice?
I just upgraded my ronin s to the rs 2 combo set. And it was very stressful to get my bmpcc 6k pro with a zoom lens, small battery (NPF) and a matte box on it.Additional to the ronin focus motor and raveneye. the arms are extremely difficult to adjust. I don´t why, but when they are already released, it is still really heavy to adjust it, and it scratches the arms a bit. The balancing is absolutely terrible. I thought with the rs2, i´ll get a gimbal which is easily adjustable and can carry this "not huge" setup easily. But just this rig weights 4,9kg. The rs2 maxload is 4,5kg. It is really annoying that i payed nearly 1000€ for that. The Zhiyun Kran 3S have a maxload by 6,5kg. Now i´am thinking about to sell my RS2 and get a Zhiyun... Do you also tested the 3S/3S Pro? (And why did they used a 12mm rod for the follow focus? not a 15mm. I think they were like, cmon, let´s make easy thinks unnecessary complicated?!)
My RS 2 is in the mail on it's way to me. I'll just go ahead and buy that Smallrig Man / Arca Swiss Plate now and save myself a headache... Thank you! P.S. I feel silly putting my tiny GH5 or S5 on the RS 2 after seeing your setup😂.
Hey Cam, another great one. I did a similar thing with my Ronin S and BMPCC. I added a magic arm, with an opened/not tight clamp to support the upper portion of the handle. It was like a second hand holding the gimbal, and it gave me a piece of mind. I'm not worried about my equipment either, just not sure how strong that bottom thread is.
Dude I'm with you. Rs2 is trash for the komodo. I ultimately went with the zhiyun crane 3s with the power pack. I use it with the df thanos pro x for that diy trinity stabilization goodness.
Geezz that must of been frustrating, trying all those accessories just to get it to work. This is one of the most expensive gimbals in it’s range, should be better and made for the bigger cameras out of the box.
I heard that there is a monitor that can control KOMODO wirelessly. It seems to be specially made for KOMODO. Does anyone know? Its brand seems to be called PORTKEYS, and its model seems to be BM5 WR. If you have used it, please introduce it. How does it feel to use it with KOMODO? I want to buy one and try it recently, thank you!
I have the regular BM5II. The Komodo wireless isn’t out fir it yet. But I’ve started using a 7 inch monitor so haven’t used the BM5 in a while, tho it’s a great monitor. Super robust
I hate that blackmagic sdi adaptor so much. It's not bad at all, but all I remember is having to cable power to it, then cable the sdi to it, then cable the hdmi out of it. Fuck that shit. I hated it so much I spent $1000 on a small hd with both sdi and hdmi just to avoid ever having to use anything that requires that adaptor. Way too much cable and power shit for my liking.
Thanks for getting into the details with this.
V mount belt clip or back pack.

Wow great video man 🙏🏻🙏🏻
good job Cam!
Thank you Cam for making this video! Beyond informative!
Haha thanks for watch guys!!! Would love to work with y’all someday 🙏🏽 Brent and Abby from Breakwall West are my agents!
Nice Jeep TJ! Thanks for the video. Was having issue balancing my 16-35 for my Komodo
Did you get it figured out??? Was thinking about getting thay
@@cammackey Have to get the counter weight system yet and the mounting plates. I'll let you know If I can make it work.

Just ordered the RS2. I have very high expectations.
Maaaan if you did your Jeep setup video, and how you have it setup for your gear!!! i know its not photo/video related but its so daamn cool
Oh man I got so many ideas fir my Jeep.. but also I need a bigger SUV so not sure if imma sell it soon or not
understandable with that tiny trunk, Yours is one of the cleanest setups ive seen with that big lift, and white&black colorway
@@cammackey I second this. And also a video on your Triumph as well. Awesome bike man, would love to see more of it.
USB Type C is a standard riddled with incompatibilities. I am sure that you do not need cables from DJI but you have to match them spec for spec.
I’ve tried usb c and thunderbolts, nothing worked. No freakin clue.

@@cammackey the Komodo works perfect for your style. Also REDs move to Komodo was a great first step. Komodo2 can potentially be the perfect camera.

🔥🎥🔥Dope. Tarantino Vibez🔥👌🔥
We got DJI's MacGyver over here. Excellent, very thorough breakdown, dude.
Lol was it thorough?! I decided last minute to make it, didn’t really plan it out haha
@@cammackey lol lots of info in the chaos. And best of all, I don’t gotta blow a bunch of money figuring out how to do my Komodo + ronin setup.
@@ChristianSantiagophoto imma need you to blow some money on epic rigging mount setups
My plate stripped out on first use. Couldn't agree more on the point of it being pretty ridiculous, especially when spending this kinda money
I also had 0 luck balancing the bmpcc6k pro with cage.
The only option is to invest in the dji counterweight system which will run you around $100.

Great video! What did u use for grading?
I use FilmConvert for most of my talking head videos!
My RS 2 kit came with a right angle usb-c cable which I specifically use for the follow focus motor. Weird.

Great to know that the RS2 can handle heavy professional-level cameras like the Komodo.

aww your poor nitze handle got cannibalized for this😭🖤
Portkeys actually sent me a box of mounting options with their EVF! I got it from there
Kudos for being brave enough to rig a Komodo with a ronin on a single clamp on a bonneville. Balls of steel
Balls of stupidity! Hahaha. Couldn’t resist though
hahah I rigged mine to my komodo with just sunction cups no rs2 with the Tokina 11-20.... it's pretty rice!
Naw. DJI fucked up with those baseplates for the RS2. Them shits have to be handled with kiddie gloves.
My plate stripped down within the first try, there's definitely something wrong with these
Solution: crane 3S, that thing is a beast.
Yeah gonna have to try that

So basically the lesson here is don’t use the RS2 with the Komodo 😂
Lol kinda. If you use primes you should be fine
