Great figure.my older brother bought this guy when we were kid. I remember he bought a lot of 1990cobras and threatened my life if i tried to play with them.he was collecting and I was still young enough to not understand the concept lol

The video game in question was the first GI JOE for the NES in 1991. Rock and Roll in that game was as badass if you get all the upgrades.

As one of the video game players I remember this guy as the douche that killed me a lot as a kid at the end of the first mission in GI for NES. My cousin had a Range Viper and he was a cool figure for 1990. The lack of the Cobra symbol anywhere on him is sad and he should have come with at least one normal gun instead of grenade launcher and mortar. Still a very good figure despite it stressing me out from all the times I died in that NES game.

Range Vipers are an odd one, from a specialty vs. design perspective. The figures look great with the skull mask, but the original colors, and Skull Buster for that matter, never matched up with the concept of Cobra's survivalists. The MOTH version really is the most appropriate along with the modern version that came with the Whirlwind re-release. That being said, I've always liked the early 2000s "Rock Viper" since, even though it largely has the same problem as the others, it at least has Cobra colors and the actual bone-colored skull mask looks amazing. The new Classified ones seem to have toned down the yellow and Cobra-fied their teal/blue and look pretty good. And that's a well-earned nap, Hoodie! Thanks for CC7!

It’s a common misconception that a troop would only carry an ammunition bandolier for his own weapon system. Machine guns require so much ammunition to keep up a heavy rate of fire that’s its impossible for one person to carry it all. Range Viper is probably carrying ammo for the Saw Viper.

Great episode. I've always liked the range vipers. I also really liked the frag vipers. They were very unique in the way that they could silently launch grenades. I used to wind up the o'ring by twisting the figure around several times and put one of the included grenades into the jai alai cone and let it rip. It could actually throw grenades in that way. I was always carefull not to lose the grenades by doing so, and luckily I never had the o'ring break. Can't wait for the next Cobra Convrrgence.

Given the file card, wouldn't it be logical to assume the viper scrounged that ammo from a fallen soldier and just hasn't picked up the appropriate gun yet (or the kid can provide said gun from a Joe)? Anyway, good vid, as usual.

A silly design, at least for a military ranger. It would've been far more suitable for an urban fighter like the so-called "Alley Viper". And I wonder what possessed them to give the female Range Viper a pink uniform? I'm not a fan of PC, but this was certainly somewhat silly and sexist.

I always disliked this figure as one of the silly 90s figures. A brain helmet? That's not scary, that's just stupid. Surprised you gave this figure such a positive review. The colors are awful for their job and having no Cobra sigil makes him kind of something else. I had stopped collecting by this time, but if I had been a kid and had this, I wouldn't make him Cobra. I would make him a mercenary or some rival cult group of some kind. He doesn't look like Cobra to me....
