What was written for him is such contrived horse shit… why was he being directed to do an almost Johnny Cash speaking voice? None of it makes any sense or works well. @@house1203 - I think it was because of the role of the politicians in getting rid of the crime that has infected New York City, such as drugs, prostitution and too much homelessness as well. They dont make soundtracks or movies like this anymore. In the old movies you were hoping one or two of your favorite characters lived , nowadays you pray every plastic person in the movie would die already, including the director.
I don't know...most of these classic slashers were FILLED with plastic 80s types and half of them were so annoying you rooted for Jason or Micheal to finish them off. I'll give you likable characters in the Nightmare movies, as those were about the protagonists fighting their fears and hang-ups so they had stronger characterization, but Friday in particular was overflowing with selfish, shallow and/or irritating characters.

The whole Metropolis album is a masterpiece without a weak track on it, that Peter Fredette and Stan Meissner never became bigger names is practically criminal, there was a ridiculous level of talent between them.
I feel like this song sounds like an actual transition from 80s sound to early 90s music. Makes me long that era. Even looking at the picture reminds me of that time. Look at how the color palate has that foggy neon vibe and even the buildings are lit but kind of blurry looking (pre HI-DEF). LOVE IT.

ExplorerDS6789 That's true. I saw an interview with director Rob Hedden and he said that since he was on a limited budget the amount of scenes actually shot in New York City had to be drastically reduced. The scenes in the alley and on the street were shot in Vancouver, I think only the part where Jason chases the main characters through Times Square was actually shot in NYC.

This takes me back to my youth. I actually watched all these movies at a really young age. I remember seeing this not long after it came out, and hearing this took me right back. Thanks for sharing!
“Man Behind the Mask” was, for the longest time, widely considered the best jam of the entire series. I think this aged better and is actually the best song - and anthem - of the franchise today.
I can selectively enjoy certain parts of Part 8, but it's still a horrible entry in the series. I remember being really disappointed coming back from the theater after seeing it. However, it is not the worst. I give that honor to "Jason Goes to Hell."
In my eyes, even Julius got his head chopped off by Jason, Julius is still my hero because he was stranded on the top of the building with Jason chasing him, he had to conquered his fears and have no choice but to boxed Jason in order to stay alive, so he kept boxing Jason continued to pound him in the face and was giving everything he got to try to knock out Jason until he run out of energy than Jason took control of him and killed Julius. Julius is one of my inspiration and should be an inspiration to others that when things get tough, never give up and try your best of all your abilities to defeat your biggest fear, even if you can't take it anymore.
If they didn't have the budget to film in New York, they could have just called it Friday the 13th: Part VIII: Voyage of the Damned and be set entirely on that ship.
They should've called it Friday The 13th Part VIII: The Voyage Home where the crew of a commercial fishing vessel find themselves in a race against time, searching for humpback whales that can be used to communicate with an alien signal being sent to Jason.
ExplorerDS6789 or better yet if they didn't have the budget to film in New York they could have just filmed in Vancouver like what they did with the early parts of the city scenes
free x the rooftop boxing scene was my favorite scene in the movie use the combos keep the feet light this is it i am actually friends with VC Dupree the guy who played Julius on facebook he is a good dude
never understood that this song was not a great success, has everything to be melody, good instrumentation, good lyrics. perhaps not enough dissemination Recivier that deserved. this song is 1,000,000 times better than 99% of the "music" that exists today.
It was 1989/90 and it just didn't have a media push. Hard to find and didn't see an "official" release until 2000. And its still hard to find, not even on spotify so.
I saw this in theaters in 1989!!! By this time Jason and 80s monsters had become charitures! Horror wasn't SCARY at ALL but just FUN to watch and BINGE ON! The audience just joked and laughed at the screen! The formula had become exhausted by the end of the decade! We didn't see a revival till 1996 with "SCREAM!" Love 80s SLASHERS!
This to me is kind of more quiet storm type mood music than metal or rock you could be anywhere in the country back then and feel the same vibe the same neon soul and know others felt *it too.
This music song is such a real true classic and not only that but the 80s music will always be the best we had such Incredible rock music and movies and TV shows such great Wonderful Memories 😎❤👍
I think the best part was when he knocked over the punks' stereo, and they're like "We're gonna kill this motherfucker" and all he does is lift his mask and they freak out after seeing his face. "Hey man, it's cool!" And they haul ass.
I'm a bass player and this is one of the most satisfying songs to play. It just resonates with my soul. Much like the album 'Up From The Ashes' does by Don Dokken. This is one of those rock meets soul kind of songs. Gotta have that soul!
Peter Fredette, the vocalist on this song, is the bassist/backing vocalist in musician, Kim Mitchell’s band! He really could have had a career as a Rock vocalist in his own right, but has usually chosen to stay in the background of his friend, Kim Mitchell’s solo career.
The Friday the 13th series did produce some good tunes. I like to listen to this one, Pseudo Echo’s “His Eyes” from Part V and Alice Cooper’s “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” from Part VI. A trio of amazing songs.
Having grown up with the series I've seen the franchise evolve with the times, reflecting then modern culture and music. This song was used in the opening and it and the DJ's line, "A city of bright lights casts many dark shadows," perfectly sums up the pessimism and cynicism of late-Eighties America. It's a bittersweet time for me and others who lived through it.
This song takes me back to summer 89 when I was 14 and just moved to Orange County CA from Georgia! This was only the second movie I'd ever watched in a theater, the first in this strange new state. Earnest Goes To Camp was the first!
Driving out of Manhattan through the Lincoln tunnel into New Jersey with this song on at 1am was ABSOLUTELY peaceful

One of the best things about this movie is this song. Really well selected.
I Love 80's music
This takes me back to my youth. I actually watched all these movies at a really young age. I remember seeing this not long after it came out, and hearing this took me right back. Thanks for sharing!
Me too. Saw this at the theater...1989.
GOD BLess YOU MAN!!!!!!!
This wonderful song takes me back to being a teenager in the 80's.
“Man Behind the Mask” was, for the longest time, widely considered the best jam of the entire series.
I think this aged better and is actually the best song - and anthem - of the franchise today.
It's a different beast when Alice does it live. Less synth and rocks harder.
This song is so badass! And over the years I’ve been able to appreciate and enjoy Part 8!
I can selectively enjoy certain parts of Part 8, but it's still a horrible entry in the series. I remember being really disappointed coming back from the theater after seeing it. However, it is not the worst. I give that honor to "Jason Goes to Hell."
@@TheIndependentLens yes, definitely Jason goes to hell is the worst one for me too. People really hate on Jason X but I actually enjoy it!
Well said!
Absolutely
That was probably my favourite scene in the movie for that very reason.
That's probably where Mortal Kombat got the idea for Johnny Cage's Head Uppercut Fatality lol
Cool way of looking at it
Damn I f***ing loved the 80s. Wish I could go back and relive my childhood and teen years in the 80s
I can’t say I like this film, but this song is a BANGER.
Brilliant song! The first time I watched Jason Takes Manhattan, this song stood out to me. It sounds haunting but pleasant to listen to 💖💖
I listen to it most nights In the bath!!! Very chilled, crazy it belongs at the start of a slasher film! x
If they didn't have the budget to film in New York, they could have just called it Friday the 13th: Part VIII: Voyage of the Damned and be set entirely on that ship.
Then we wouldn't have the Julius scene and Jason in Times Square.
I'd actually watch that ._. don't ask
free x the rooftop boxing scene was my favorite scene in the movie use the combos keep the feet light this is it i am actually friends with VC Dupree the guy who played Julius on facebook he is a good dude
You can't get the adrenaline pumping without the terror good people. I love this town.
If I ever make it to New York, I'm going to drive around at night blasting this song on repeat.
I was 9 years old when I went and seen this movie with my brother in August off 1989. I do like this song a lot as well.
This movie was ahead of its time, but for all of the wrong reasons: it was the first clickbait in history.
THE 80'S GOD I MISS THOSE DAYS !! BRING IT BACK !!
never understood that this song was not a great success, has everything to be melody, good instrumentation, good lyrics. perhaps not enough dissemination Recivier that deserved. this song is 1,000,000 times better than 99% of the "music" that exists today.
I tip my hat to you sir, that is totally true
You are wrong, its infinitevly better than 100% of music from today.
It was 1989/90 and it just didn't have a media push. Hard to find and didn't see an "official" release until 2000. And its still hard to find, not even on spotify so.
Hell yeah
Cause this song if perfect for and only for friday13th.
I can play this over and over 😊
I saw this in theaters in 1989!!! By this time Jason and 80s monsters had become charitures! Horror wasn't SCARY at ALL but just FUN to watch and BINGE ON! The audience just joked and laughed at the screen! The formula had become exhausted by the end of the decade! We didn't see a revival till 1996 with "SCREAM!" Love 80s SLASHERS!
i was a kid and begged someone, anyone to take me... cause it was playing in the very mall i was in!! 💢💥💥🔞👁🗨
Saw it too, 10 years old.
Welcome back to the 80's love It
Honestly this song plays a huge part in why part VIII is one my favorites in the franchise
Show some respect and try to survive, dammit!!!
WHY ALL THOSE 80`s / 90's HORROR FILMS HAD ALL THOSE SUPERB BANDS ?? Wow man, just wow.
Mr. Marino 80s movies and music was the best
This song is one of the best from the whole series. Sets the mood for the movie too!!!
This to me is kind of more quiet storm type mood music than metal or rock you could be anywhere in the country back then and feel the same vibe the same neon soul and know others felt *it too.
can't say i remember the random open toxic waste barrels on the streets of nyc in the 80s
Lol. I know...it's...I know.
Uhm have you seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
I always wondered that ??
@Maddafi the ship scenes where filmed in vancouver and maybe the camp and boating dock scenes the rest were shot in NYC
The best thing about that is that in the closeup shot of the barrel, it's clearly a cardboard box 😂
such a classic song
Rob S. One of those songs that remind you that Jason is right there ...as your walking...
EXPLISIT HIPHOP Lol idk about that but its a great song
Myers vs Jason?
EXPLISIT HIPHOP 👍 👍 yeah hopefully they make it
That guitar solo at the end tho 🔥🔥
That ending guitar solo is my favorite of all time.
Essa música é muito anos 80, muito boa de se ouvir à noite.
so 80s.. I'm into this!
Still love this song after all these years...
Driving in the middle of the night on the way home from work makes makes me feel calm
This music song is such a real true classic and not only that but the 80s music will always be the best we had such Incredible rock music and movies and TV shows such great Wonderful Memories 😎❤👍
The power of the 1980's is REALLY strong here!
This is the best song ever. I love Jason takes Manhattan.😁
I think the best part was when he knocked over the punks' stereo, and they're like "We're gonna kill this motherfucker" and all he does is lift his mask and they freak out after seeing his face. "Hey man, it's cool!" And they haul ass.
Pure 80's, a Nostalgic sadness as if saying goodbye to the 80's
O.M.G This just appeared after one of My Favourites. Been looking for it forever. Woo Hoo, love it.
This song takes me back to summer 89 when I was 14 and just moved to Orange County CA from Georgia! This was only the second movie I'd ever watched in a theater, the first in this strange new state. Earnest Goes To Camp was the first!
Two great movies and both had great music!
I've never seen a music that had more 80s vibes than this one. This song is like a time-machine!
New York in one song. I love the city, I've had the pleasure of driving there from Massachusetts so many times.
