Those in the comments who talk lowly about C. Abbado's rehearsal process do not realize that this video is made to capture a snippet of how a great maestro rehearses. This is not at all to showcase the soloists in rehearsal; they just happen to be great singers too. The microphone is also placed closer to C. Abaddo than the singers, hence the maestros soft speaking and pianissimo singing can be heard louder than the (20 times louder) soloists in the room. Great conductors rehearse a certain way, and lead a live performance in a different way. Remember, "to each their own." I personally really enjoyed the relaxing energy the maestro exudes in the video. His manner of communication was also perfect to me. *It's not about what one has to say that matters, but how one get the message across appropriately (=ideally, it varies depending on who is being spoke to)* About all the "odd" comments left below regarding this video: Pointing out someone's obvious mistakes NEVER makes a person smarter... the wiser readers out there will only chuckle (on the insider) at the opposite effect it has on the commenter. To point out something that is not visible or audible: now that's worth hearing about.
Abbado was of course a renowned conductor. But, as both a singer and conductor myself, I'm amazed that he is waving his arms the entire time and singing along half the time. Singers of this caliber certainly don't need that. Seems to me unnecessary and even insulting, especially in a tiny room like this one.

Chris Merrit has a beautiful voice and a phenomenal technique.
Two of the greatest Rossinians of the 20th century.
Die Stimme, des Chris Merrit ist einfach schön ! Ich hätte mir gewünscht, dass ihm noch mehr Beachtung geschenkt worden wäre.
Lovely to see Claudio so young and handsome...
Great lord. Those who have never sung have no idea.

Another renowned keyboard warrior. Wahahaha.
No. He’s shaping his interpretation, as he must. And Merritt is often a little behind and sometimes holding notes too long. Welcome to the big time.

That soft singing, whoever it was, was really annoying.
That's Claudio Abbado, the Orchestra director. And yeah, it's annoying as shit but hey, its a rehearsal.
