Thanks so much Jon. Your reviews are so different from most others. You review some very different (albet hard to find) whiskeys that have me keeping an eye open for them. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and welcomed. I haven't tried any of the three you reviewed, but I do have a bottle of the Killowen Rum and Raisin, which I really like. I wonder what it would taste over rum and raisin ice cream. Sláinte!
Barantuil is the name given to almost all of the Killowen bottlings from their own distillate. The sample i Gave you of the PX cask was their first barrel ever filled and also the first whiskey they ever released of their own distillate. "Turfed" is the Irish form of peated. They call peat "turf" on the Emerald Isle. so its a peated mixed mash bill "historical Pot Still" thats been "turfed/peated" and aged in a PX barrel that they rinsed before filling. The ex-bourbon cask (whiskey #2), is my top whiskey of the year so far this year. Canada exclusive and is malty, spiced and shows the Maillard Reaction taste notes in spades (due to their direct flame fired stills). That two stacks is also a Canada exclusive and the label/name is a bit misleading. Mandorla Cream is sicilian and the reason it says sherry is its made in the same way cream sherry is produced but being from sicily it cant be called sherry. It is a fortified wine that is then infused with alcoholic almond. Very unique and I agree these are all absolute flavour bombs.
Great line up. Lots of notes that I don’t think of when I think of Irish Whiskey. Going to need to enhance my Irish Whiskey hunting and tasting. Thanks for sharing.
Well, that first one was certainly a mixed bag...literally. 😂 Agree with you on colour. For me, it's part of the magic. Say "NO" to E150. There is a lot going on here with these three. What a treat to have them all in one lineup. No driving for you tonight, my friend! By the way, thanks for really shouting about craft. The more noise, the better. Snowing like a madman here. Tuesday they're calling for +16. I am, admittedly, confused...😕 Have a marvelous week 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Cheers Jon! Your pronunciation of Barantuil is totally fine! And yeah, their sourced stock was great, but somehow their own distillate (despite being only 3 years old) is amazing. Turfed is how they describe peated whiskey, as we would call peat turf in Ireland (same stuff though). As for the rinsing, they do that as Killowen gets the casks then fills them pretty quickly, so sometimes the casks have a few litres of sherry, port etc. still in them (that way they don't dry out and crack while they are transported and waiting to be filled), so Killowen wash them out to prevent the whiskey in a 200L cask from being 2/3% sherry! 😂
Thanks for letting me know my pronounciation is OK. Also, for explaining turfed. Love that. Just FYI, here in Alberta we have a distiller that tends to add 2-3% actuall sherry into their barrels so, no rinsing going on here! Cheers!
Hey Jon I just noticed that Sons of Vancouver have a pre-sale happening for their 2024 Advent Whisky Calendar!! You might already know but just in case, I thought I'd let you know!! Yikes very early but I imagine there is a lot to do to get orders all organized and get the Advent calendars of whisky done and ordered - if they order from someone - or if they design the calendar on their own!! I hope you are having a fabulous day! On my mind - spring break - Maui!! Cheers!! 🙂
Great thoughts Jon!! I want this Killowen Barantuil!!! I have heard a couple of good (delicious) reviews!! Cheers!! That’s the first Killowen you tried right?!!
I have had several sourced Killowen, but this is the first from their own distillate. I spend way to much on Irish, but I am going to hunt down the last bottle of this. It was wild, but tasty!
You love Irish Whiskey! You deserve a treat! I hope you find this expression quickly!! I am getting into some Irish Whiskey exploration too! Delicious! Cheers Jon!

Over ice cream would certainly be a decadent treat! Thanks for the encouragement too, it means a lot. Cheers!

All three were certainly amazing!! I was so thankful to try them!
A Canada exclusive you say .... might have to get a second bottle.

These are so much richer than standard Irish. I hope you can find some!
@@WhiskyNeighbour will likely need to ship some in or get on a trip to the US.

I hope your weather settles down. Storms and large swings in temp are hard to manage. Cheers!
There are always a lot of treats on this channel.
I love the samples my whisky friends share with me!
