Jason and Joanna also made a video on their glo betta check it out: ruclips.net/video/5DPIlM37nz8/видео.html *Ps- Its ok to dislike glo bettas, just like hybrids and some odd domestically bred variations (I'm talking about you bubble eye goldfish) they are kinda weird.* I though it would be nice to try to take an unbiased look and at least give them a try.
I would love a science behind the glow fish video!! 💗 I think he us cute and second the name lemon drop. At first I wasn't a fan, but I don't have to be in order to appreciate someone else who does. I think all betta are cute regardless of glow 😍
I want to buy glow betta, but I need to considered their condition. So I looking for someone to explain it. But suddenly, after I see them in dark and gloomy tank, it make me sad. She is beautiful, but sad. Like birds in cage
It's a pass for me as I find bettas are one of the most mistreated fish and really didn't need another modified version of them, but you do you and hope you enjoy your new boy! Not hitting the like or dislike button on this one...but enjoy your vids and look at this one as one for science.
The nice thing about the globettas is that in “big box” stores, they’re being marketed as a fish that needs a minimum of 3 gallons, unlike regular bettas, which are marketed as only needing a .5 gal tank. I only hope they change that “requirement” for the rest of the bettas.
Weird take, it's like you think normal bettas have natural colouration? If you're referring to wild bettas then I take this comment back. But trust me, most bettas have had the genome messed with so much, there's really no significant difference selectively bred bettas and GMO bettas.
Years ago my parents has a blind Betta. What they told me they did was tap the side of the glass lightly when feeding him, and he learned that it was feeding time by the tapping.
I think you're right he looks blind. Let's hope that it's not a common defect of having the glo gene in their dna. Personally I don't like glo fish. They are also banned in England, but If they aren't harming the fish then I don't see a problem with it. Just not my taste.
@@CreativePetKeeping if you look at your footage of the glo tetras a few of them have those eyes also. My son has 9 glo tetras, and 2 or 3 of them have those eyes that look the same as their body "glo" color. I can't tell if they're blind, but they don't seem it.
They become naturally blind from this genetic splicing. If you think other wise you can try add a few more male in the same tank and see if they will go after each other. Think they lack the ability to flare because they can't really see a peer to become territorial.
Mine seems to have perfect vision. He even seems to have better sight than my other bettas. He has the same eye color. He has had no issues thankfully.
Seems like this eye issues is an issue in all glofish which does indeed made them blind. People have had these issues with tetras and danios as well for years, I think it has to do with the pigment effecting the eyes, since fish without the pigment in the eyes seem to have less or no issues.
Humans have been modifying animals for eons (look at dogs for instance). I can understand the original need for the ecological reasons behind creating the "glo" types but it is sad they are now making money off of it. Regardless, he is a beautiful fish and I am happy you are giving him his forever home. His eyes reminded me of emeralds for some reason.
The degree of blindness depends on how much fluorescents they have in their eyes. With the fluorescents in their eyes the black lights make their blindness worse.
To be honest, I don’t think it will make a difference. Bettas are already a animal that’s been inbred for many years. Glofish releasing these type of bettas isn’t going to change anything
Might further promote the abuse of bettas though. Glofish species are targeted towards kids, and I've seen so many kids and parents purchase and return at least 20-30 glofish in the span of just a couple months, from shitty fish care. I think if they're supposed to be targeted towards kids, that the fish hobby be limited to older age groups, or have more consultation in ensuring that the fish is going to an educated owner
Me: ehh, i feel like normal betas are stunning enough...I dont get the point of one that's just a longer glo tetra Your glo beta: blub Me: oh no, hes so cute TOT (seriously, his blank little stare...poor baby doesn't know what walls are or what flaring is but he's adorable. The way he just stared at the flaring beta...I'd hug him if yknow, he weren't a fish and that would be super harmful to him xD)
sorry for the dislike , as always watch your vids and norm love them ,,, but i feel these fish have no room/ need in this hoby and im suprised you seem to agree with having them
No need to be sorry for disliking, its ok to to not like them or not like/agree with my video. I didn't like them either until I looked into the science behind them which made them interesting..it it wasn't for the betta I would have never purchised any thougg. I'm still not sure if there is really a point to cosmetically altering a fish just for looks. Then again..we do breed some fish for looks and make weird hybrids too. I know many fishkeepers who think any fish hybrids or domestic variations have no place in the hobby as well..there is much love and hate for Flowerhorns for example.
I find it very interesting to read all the discussions on the Glofish Betta as it is good to see that everybody has his/own opinion on this matter. It really does surprise me though to read that people are comparing these Glofish to the origin of the many varieties in color and form we have achieved in our showbetta by selective breeding. Personally I do not agree with this view. The many color and form varieties we know today in our showbetta are the result of selective breeding using the available gene pool of the species. They came to be by selecting & breeding for the desired phenotypical traits. Off course not all varieties are equally nice or desired. But all these varieties including the extremes have been the result of using the gene pool of the species by natural breeding & selecting. I fully agree that variants with extreme finnage or deformities are not desirable should not be bred, but this is exactly what many responsible & caring hobbyists trying to achieve by sharing information within aquarium/betta groups, clubs and by creating good show standards. Unlike some other species, Betta do not have natural fluorescence nor the genes to do so. This means that by no means you can achieve a Glofish Betta by selective breeding as there is no trait in the genome of the fish to select for! Glofish Bettas came to be by genetic modification at a DNA level by inserting a fluorescent gene (GFP isolated from the jelly fish Aequorea victoria) in the Betta genome using molecular techniques (likely injection of a blastocyst with a construct of interest and insertion in the genome by homologues recombination) in the laboratory to create a stable genotype which can be bred for a heritable trait. GFP zebrafish were already developed in 1995 in the laboratory for scientific research to trace/monitor traffic and expression of certain components in the cell. Being a scientist myself, I personally I think this technique should not be allowed to be applied outside the laboratory and for scientific purposes only under strict regulations. I therefore am very happy that the import and selling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is forbidden within the European Union. For research purposes within laboratories different, but strictly regulated laws apply. Food for thought....where do we draw the limit? Keep in mind that this technique can be easily applied to a variety of species in the laboratory. So what is next in line? Pet shops/companies selling fluorescent (GMO) dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, because they look cool? When something is possible it does not always mean that you should (this also is true for the more extreme variants by selective breeding)....Feel free to think otherwise 😉.
Thank you for your comment! I agree that genetically modified animals should stay in the lab vs be made available to the public..or at least viewed in an academic setting like a museum where they would serve a more educational purpose vs just looking ...cool. I think the science behind them is fascinating though. Would you ever consider making a video about it? I was thinking about trying but I believe you would do a more thorough job due to your science background. My research into them started out with wikipedia as my starting point which led me to a few articles. I'd like to read some studies on them, but it takes me a long time to go through scientific papers as I find many to be difficult to understand as an average pet fish owner with no science background.
When you say that import and selling of GMO fish is forbidden within the EU you are absolutely correct but just because they are banned it does not mean thy are not available. I live in Greece, glo zebra danios and glo tetras are readily available and imported from the Netherlands where they are very common. In UK thy are unavailable and likewise in Germany but I don't know about any other countries. Maybe they will now be introduced into UK who are (in theory at least) no longer bound by EU rules.
andy stokes I am aware that they do circulate but that does not mean that they are legal within the EU. I am from the Netherlands and I can assure you they are not common here. We have strict regulations and when you would get caught this will result in big fines and the fish being destroyed.
@@BettaTerritory I first saw glo danios in Greece about 4-5 years ago. They were in my local pet shop. I asked the owner where he had got them from and he informed me that they were imported along with all his other stock from a commercial fish farm/importer in the Netherlands. I asked him if he knew they were banned within the EU - he had no idea and he has continued to stock them to this day. I put a similar comment on Jason and Joanna's recent video and got a reply from somebody in the Netherlands who said they were readily available in numerous places in his country.
andy stokes available and legal are two different things 😉. Please read the English abstract on page 5 of the RIVM report by clicking this link: www.rivm.nl/bibliotheek/rapporten/609021084.pdf
Blue Horizon it’s illegal to breed glo bettas. I mean. I guess you could if you want to but be careful. There is a statement on the glo betta packaging that says any intentional breeding, selling, trade, etc. is not prohibited
I love my female globetta. I’ve always kept and enjoyed bettas, and I’m a sucker, so I decided to pick one up when they came out. She’s got a beautiful iridescence in her tail, and she’s so spunky and full of life. (And also will definitely need to be housed alone. She thinks any snail or shrimp I’ve tried to introduce into her tank are snacks.) I absolutely adore her.
He is so lucky you took a chance on Glo Bettas! The majority of people who walk in to buy them probably would have had no idea he was impaired or how to give him special care!
I see no problem with breeding fish to enhance naturally occurring traits within them. For example, trying to breed longfin fish when the genetic trait for a long fin already exists within the fish. What bothers me is genetically mixing Critters for our own personal aesthetic enjoyment. Genetically modifying fish or corn plants or tomatoes or similar in order to feed people is a rather altruistic idea. Genetically modifying something because it looks pretty under a black light is in my opinion not a good idea nor is it a good use of technology. These are living creatures. Can you imagine modifying kids to have blonde hair and blue eyes? How about modifying everyone to be the same ideal height and weight? Hundreds of thousands if not millions or billions of years have led to the appearance of these fish. I ask that people simply consider someone telling them that their children are all going to be genetically altered to be a certain color. By the way, the excuse that they were trying to study pollution was really absurd. There are a million ways to study pollution without having to genetically modify the color of a fish and then keeping track of it. As I commented in another RUclipsrs video on this subject just today, I like the thought of a horse with porcupine quills. Or I like the thought of a great horned owl with the skin of a Shar-Pei dog covering its body. Because I think those things would be attractive and cool does it mean we should do it?
I think I'm in a minority but personally I really like glow bettas. Also I've looked around and not all bettas are blind. Blind glow bettas happen, just like blind regular bettas happen. Most of the ones kept properly are fine and based on looking at their behavior they seem just as happy as any other betta fish. Imo I don't care if it's genetically modified as long as it doesn't hurt them and I don't think a betta really cares weather or not it's florescent. However I do not support the breeding of feathertail and other types that require birth defects that cause negative side effects on the health of the fish. Since yours is the only blind glow betta I've heard about I'm going to lend it to being just bad luck untill further information comes. The best thing about bettas is all the variety in them so imo as long as it doesn't negatively effect their health I'm all for anything that adds even more variety to them. BTW yours is a really cute one. I'll probably get my own at some point, maybe I'll get green or maybe I'll wait for the pink and purple ones to come out.
My female glo betta was blind. I placed her with my deformed ctpk female and they kept to themselves. The ctpk female was actually afraid of the glo betta so they stayed away from each other. Sadly my glo betta passed away due to pop eye. One eye was bigger than the other. I'm curious to know in Ial, Banana leaves, catechu bark are ok for glo bettas since I had the glo betta in a tank with those tannins inside. Love the topic on glo bettas and definitely would like to see more videos on them and their health.
I purchased the same type. Mine also has the glow proteins in his eyes. He is very aggressive towards the other males I have (in separate tanks) and seems to have no issues such as yours. I've personally been wait for these to release as I've wanted one to add to my collection. In addition, it's amazing that we FINALLY get good all in one tanks for betta fish! I bought 3 of the 3 gallon all in one tanks to rehome my current collection and upgraded the lighting. The promotion of 3 gallon filtered tanks is a huge improvement in comparison to the betta bowls for starter hobbyists.
That was so helpful. Just bought my six year old his first pet and it happens to be a glofish. My son and I have been so worried about this fish because his behavior Is so weird. I’ve actually named him “possum “ because he looks dead when he’s really sleeping. Anywho! Thanks for the video and I’m hoping “Goldy” will be ok!
You have a very cute baby! I personally don't agree with them because it introduced a whole nother breed of Bettas that'll just be mistreated due to lack a of knowledge of Betta keeping among most people. But that being said, I also have one! I was a hypocrite by purchasing one, but mine has an entire eye missing, so your comment about the garlic was great, thank you! I've had Bettas in the past with vision issues, and currently have two out of six with vision issues, and I've never heard that before. So tyvm! Luckily, both of my current disabled kiddos can still see out of one eye, but I'll definitely remember that for future instances :)
I put the sponge on outflow to reduce the flow. Although the sponge isn't completely submerged, the pressure makes the top of the sponge wet and kinda bubbles out water. My Betta spends all of his time on top of the out take sponge. He appears happy...he stays wet mostly...but I do worry that only half of him is in constant contact with water. He quickly jumps down when I open the lid, but he is right back on top within a minute. I know they like to rest and sleep. I put in plants and Betta caves, but he wants out of the water on the sponge.
I just happened upon Glo Bettas for the first time at a Pet Supplies Plus recently (our Petco hasn't carried them), and I was shocked that they even existed! Your little guy is beautiful, with or without a vision impairment. In rabbits that have ruby eyes, they often "scan" their surroundings because their eyes have difficulty in dim lighting. I wonder if something similar could be happening with some Glo fish due to their colored eyes. Also, from one RUclipsr to another, I commend the superb quality of your video and editing. If you don't mind sharing, what camera and editing software do you use?
Thank you so much! ❤ I currently use the Canon Rebel T7i as well as my phone, Samsung Galaxy s9+. For editing I use Adobe Premier Pro and sometimes After Effects. I do a littlebit of color correcting because my phone has more saturated colors then my dslr so I try to make the footage match more and I make some shots a little brighter if needed.
I got a glofish betta a couple weeks ago and he can see me from across the room (he’s constantly begging for food). He fins are becoming redder since I bought him. I wonder which variety of betta he is
In my country, betta's original habitat is in the swamps with quite turbid running water. That's why we use ketapang leaves to resemble their natural habitat although it will reduce the beauty when putting it in an aquarium.
Hello, I am not an experienced fish keeper. We got my daughter a Glo Betta last year Sept. 2022 (Same color as your, named Lemondrop) and she was fine at first. Now her eyes look like yours and we think she has gone blind. We are so sad but are beginning to adjust her care to make sure she is happy and as healthy as can be despite the vision impairment. Does anyone have any advice on what we can do? We love her and want to keep her safe and healthy. Thank you in advance! ❤
Recently picked up a Female GloBetta to keep kiddo distracted during the quarantine. I modded a Top Fin 5.5 Gal Aquarium kid by adding sponges to the filter to slow flow, pre-sponge filter and am using a 5v USB LES strip for the blue light... Having it now for 2 days I have noticed that the female I have takes almost 5 minutes or more to find her food at the top of the tank. Bumps into the glass from time to time as well. Her eyes are black with a green center so I wonder if she's blind as well. Either way she shall be loved and hopefully her being blind may allow me to put other tankmates in the tank like shrimp maybe?
I surprisingly like them! I wasn’t on board until I realised its not their fault they exist. They have the same right to get a great way of life same as any betta. Plus my geeky fantasy of a Pandora like fish is coming true. Said the same thing to Joanna. If I may, pls pls keep them in a black water set-up. I feel that would make him pop more. Great vid! Hmmm..as for the name.Jellybean? Or Ecto?
Well my dear friend. Even the fish has some issues with its vision looks healthy. Personally I’m still debating if I’m going to have a GloBetta or not. Looking forward for the follow up video on your fish that I named “Highlighter”. Hope you have an amazing week ahead.
One of my glo betta's eyes is sort of covered up and the other isn't. She can definitely see me because she reacts greatly but I kind of think one eye is blind.
Great video like always and very informative 😊👍🏻 I hope to make a video on my Glo Betta soon luckily it’s able to see but I’ve seen some that definitely have vision problems which is sad 😔
Partial or full blindness seems to be common with glofish in general, as well as the males being sterile. I think them initially being used to detect pollution is pretty amazing, but unfortunately they’ve been turned into a novelty that might negatively impact the animal’s quality of life. If modifying their genes didn’t have any negative effects, I wouldn’t have a problem with them. At least they’re better than the dyed fish that I remember as a kid. With that being said, 8 year me would have been totally into glofish lol. Happy your little guy has a great home and someone who will will be able to care for him properly!
He was cooked up in a lab so the list of genetic quirks could fill up this entire comment section. I will stick to my original theory - he has no soul. Cute, yes. soul - no......
That’s a beautiful glo betta. My green glofish looks almost the same with the glowing eyes. I specifically chose him he looked diff than other green ones.
Hi, being that you are near Chicago like I am, What liquid fertilizer do you recommend? I just use easy green from aquarium coop but I’ve heard of certain parts of the country that didn’t need liquid fert because it’ll just feed the algae. I do get a little of brown hair and this very dark green sometimes. Just wondering what you do to keep your tanks squeaky clean
This is a little off the GloBetta topic- but do you have any more advice for caring for a blind betta? I believe one of my bettas (she’s a koi female, I’ve had her for almost a year now), is going blind. I’ve been doing lots of research, but I would love to have your input!
I think its always best to keep vision impaired fish alone or with critters that eat slowly such as mystery snails ..so there is no competition for food. Bare bottom tanks make it easier to find food unless ur feeding floating pellets that will stay on top. Soaking food with Garlic Guard helps. Tap in the glass everytime you feed, this will teach the fish to easily know when to start looking for food and try to feed in the same spot inside the tank. I hope a few of these tips help! ❤
Cool, I learned about this in genetics this semester! The GFP modification done on fish had a lot of useful applications! I think glo fish themselves are really cool to own because it's like owning a piece of REAL scientific and genetic history (they were made for something other than petkeeping originally). Not a fan of the glo bettas though... that is just a little unnecessary, in my opinion.
Okay so my name is Charles. I've got a 75 gallon tank. I've got five or six different colors of glow tetra in it along with two angel fish, some Corey's. I personally think they're really cool. I like to build tanks from time to time. It's a little hobby of mine. I'm getting back into it after a while but I have as it stands total of 27 fish in my freshwater 75 gallon tank. I personally adore the GloFish now I'm just trying to get them to breed
Hi! First of all I just want to say hello and thank you! I always loved pet keeping (cats, dogs, turtles and birds) and since a year or two I watch fish keeping videos without wanting to have any fish. That changed when I found your channel and now I seriously think about getting betta(s) (btw since the last few months, I watched all your videos!)! So, about your actual video : As much as I think a video about glo bettas would be interesting, I would be much more interested by a video dedicated to those problematic betta types/lines...
I’m a new fish keeper and my first fish was a glo betta. I thought my fish looked like a sort of sad mutant in the store, which is what made me decide to buy her lol. Named her Drusilla
Cora I have had for over 2 weeks now. She's got the same glowing pupils but she seems to have good vision so far. I've been keeping Bettas for 4 years now and I was like you, fascinated! I can see why it's controversial though mine seems to be a happy healthy normal fish. I know that's not always the case though 😭
Meet my new GloFish Betta! I don't have a name for him yet but have considered: Lemon Drop, Toxic, and Nox. GloFish and GloBettas are genetically modified fish with the If you want buy in petco in st patricks day i live in davis put the glofish betta in the small bagging green tail be red female packing in box golfish fish betta green black eyes red tail put her outside front ponch i live in davis 1500 shasta dr. apartment number is 103
i recently got a female glo betta (just about 2 days ago) and i think she may be blind in one eye. i hope she will still be able to live a prosperous life with me though 😊 currently she is in a 3 gallon tank, but i will hopefully be upgrading to a 5-10 gallon tank in a few months around Christmas time. her tank has a filter, but i will be getting her a heater, some live plants to replace the fake ones in her tank, and maybe some treats (bloodworms) today ! i am a beginner, so if anyone has any tips to make sure she is happy it would be well appreciated ! 💖
My betta has the same thing, i tap the side of the tank at feeding time and she comes up the to the top and then i tap depending on which direction she needs to go and she finds it
Primarily because I miss the days when a betta would live for 3-5 years after you bring it home, I am extremely hesitant about these new little dudes. I don’t hate them for what they are or because they are not natural, but mostly because I think bettas have become a disposable fish. That being said, man I love bettas so much - now I’m working with the Mahachai betta and even breeding them - they are so far everything I miss about bettas plus so incredibly cute! Next I want to try a mouth brooder or potentially api api. The glo bettas are neat and I can see their place as the new, exciting thing that gets people interested in keeping fish. I feel like the natural progression is to transition to natural environments over time, but that could just be confirmation bias from the folks I tend to associate with within the hobby itself. Anyway, keep on doing your thing, Girl!
I'm with ya 100%. My wilds seems to be doing so much better healthwize then the domestics and its so sad. My gold halfmoon developed a huge tumor so fast and just died today. Its frustrating when the fish have such poor genetics... I want my fish to live long happy lives.
I’ve been through two baby standard males. One lasted 3 days. Couldn’t find food. Was blind and died because he couldn’t eat. Second one was fine the first day, then after 3 days he had Columnaris manifest. He came with it. I just don’t think I want another. Not for a while. I haven’t hat and luck.
Another comment is that yesterday we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. We were looking a jellyfish, and I told my wife that jellyfish were how they made GloFish to begin with. I went to Wikipedia and found that the jellyfish was called, "Aequorea victoria, jellyfish," then the next tank I looked at there it was. The Tetra in the GloFish are Black Skirt Tetra species. I have a Green Glo, and a Pink non-Glo, and they have to be a pair. My Black Skirts usually last 8-10 years for me, so I will see how Green Glo does.
I adopted a girl Glosfish because she was at the store for maybe a month and her water was freezing!! I don't agree with this "trend" and I didn't get special lights or anything I just let her be in her new home here. Mine it's not blind but I do see her eyes are very yellow when I use the light in her tank so in sunny days I just turn it off. If thy bring more colors , I won't buy any. I got mine on sale and the store have had the same betas for over 2 months now.. It's sad.. Thanks for the video though :) It was very informative
I LOVEE my glo betta! I got him as a female but he is definitely a male. The one that I have does not have the florescent on his face but he is a cellophane. I’m happy that they don’t seek any tanks that are under 2.5 gallons.
Again another very informative video... i can see the attraction to new fish keepers and when there available here will look at getting one ... would love to see a more in-depth video on these fish
had no idea there were glo bettas. I love the mix of color and big giant fins, so i don't think these guys would be for me. As long as the fish are healthy and don't suffer from the genetic mods, it's personal preference.
I have a green glo male that has some red colouration, which looks to be expanding over time. I don’t care. I bought this fish after having interspecies aggression issues with two non-glo females (exchanged for the other), and then a non-glo male that died within four days. I selected this fish for his personality - an active swimmer that didn’t flare in the presence of other bettas next to his container. I don’t like the idea of keeping a fish by itself, so I was looking for one that would tolerate other fishes. I was right about him, and he lives in a 15 gallon with 4 Endlers, a guppy, 5 cardinal tetras and a gold mystery snail. A veritable hive of colour and activity! By the way, my betta isn’t blind. Not liking glofish bettas because they are artificial seems silly to me. GMO is one way to generate desirable traits in a fish, but so is the selective breeding that generates all the fancy fin types in bettas. My betta can swim almost like a native betta because he doesn’t have those big fins. And I don’t have to worry about him tearing them from rough surfaces because he has better control of his fins than the long-finned types have. That seems more natural to me, but to each his or her own.
I think it is wrong - but since they exist whether we want them to or not, someone needs to take care of them. Very sad that many of them seem to be blind, although, given the riot of colors in their tanks that they are forced to live with, maybe it's a blessing, being blind? :-o
Please do a video on glofish information to many people have so many misconceptions about glofish and hate them because they dont really know what they are or how they are created.
I got a green and red female because she looked beautiful. Also I'm not making a glo tank, so I won't need her to be super glowy. Luckily mine isn't blind.
He's cute. I have to admit I bought one too. I'm not sure how well mine sees either. Once my little guy is out of his 1 gallon holding jar and into his forever tank, I'll have a better idea. I also have a school of glo tetras. I can argue either way on the ethics of it depending upon the day. But the technology is out and there is no putting it back in it's box.
Hi, blind fish question, would it be best to keep a blind fish in a smaller tank with fewer decorations? I'd be tempted to give him a 3.5 with just a plant and a moss bed. Also I'd like that 'more science' video on GloFish. I don't have an opinion besides 'not my thing'.
I want to buy glow betta, but I need to considered their condition. So I looking for someone to explain it. But suddenly, after I see them in dark and gloomy tank, it make me sad.
My husband and I stopped by Petco and saw the GloBetta fish and thought the exact same thing-- that they looked blind. And it wasn't just a few, it was like all of them. All of them had the same, milky-fogged eyes. This is so sad, I can't believe Petco is actually selling these fish. I know they're Big Business at the end of the day, but to so blatantly sell blind/disabled fish when they have signs around the store saying "we care about our animals, please let staff members know if you have any concerns"... It's incredible, and incredibly disheartening.
My sister and her husband gift me a globetta, you are the second RUclipsr who says that their betta is blind 😔 I just feel bad, I hope Sunny doesn’t go blind.
What a cutie! I'm not against the creation of glofish from the information provided. One potential problem I have with the glo betta fish is that it could contribute to people keeping their betta fish in smaller tanks because the accompanying glofish tank is a small
I'd like to know more about the scientific side of them! I don't think we'll get them here in Australia, as we have strict import laws, but I probably would stick to my regular bettas anyway
I would name him Jimmy Neutron. No idea why, but that's what came to me. I would love to see the extended info video you asked about. Hopefully you will! 🤗
I'll admit it is kinda cool but at the same time we really don't know how these fish feel I mean yea they seem perfectly fine but there's no way we can truly know that but it seems to be an exploding thing so it's not going away anytime soon all we can hope is that the people who buy these fish do right by them and never lose interest in caring for them.
I'm not against genetically modified organisms as long as the genetic modifications do not alter the bettas quality of life (lifespan, overall health, etc). Personally I prefer 'natural' bettas, which i'm aware have been selectively bred. They look far more amazing in a planted tank.
I have 2 female GloBettas in my sorority...and they are def NOT blind! However I was told by my LPS that the blindness seem to be mostly in the Males🥺! It makes me sad! But I love all Bettas sooo much!!
You can see like a cataract within his eye. Fully blind? Maybe. He could see shadows or something. GMO fish are banned here in Australia, which im kinda glad for.
Last year I bought a platinum dragon scale plakat betta from Petco. He is very cool looking but his wihite scales grew over his eyes and he is definetly blind now I don't think they should breed these bettas but I love mine anyway. I named him Drake and where he was black on his fins is now getting tinged with dark red. I would like to get a glo betta, but I think I will wait a while.
Dragon scales and metallics have been having vision issues for a long time...at first people tried to make more money by calling them "diamond eye bettas" and trying to pass them off as rare and charging more. I'm surprised that the fishkeeping community does not get as upset about these as they do with glo bettas.
@@CreativePetKeeping it's simple. People need something to be offended by these days, and they refuse to be "offended" by their favorite breed of fish/dog/cat (all of which were selectively bred aka: GMO). It's easier to be "upset" about the new guy, especially when most people can't/refuse to comprehend anything discovered or created by scientists or doctors. "I don't know how to do this myself in my own house, so it's scary and WRONG."
I have seen a few of the Glo Betta's, at different large/small pet store chains. Unfortunately, not many of them look healthy. No type of movement when you pick up the cups, and basically just swimming in place.
Jason and Joanna also made a video on their glo betta check it out: ruclips.net/video/5DPIlM37nz8/видео.html
*Ps- Its ok to dislike glo bettas, just like hybrids and some odd domestically bred variations (I'm talking about you bubble eye goldfish) they are kinda weird.* I though it would be nice to try to take an unbiased look and at least give them a try.
I would love a science behind the glow fish video!! 💗 I think he us cute and second the name lemon drop. At first I wasn't a fan, but I don't have to be in order to appreciate someone else who does. I think all betta are cute regardless of glow 😍
Creative Pet Keeping his name I think his name will be green lantern.
Can I buy that betta glo
I want to buy glow betta, but I need to considered their condition. So I looking for someone to explain it. But suddenly, after I see them in dark and gloomy tank, it make me sad. She is beautiful, but sad. Like birds in cage
It's a pass for me as I find bettas are one of the most mistreated fish and really didn't need another modified version of them, but you do you and hope you enjoy your new boy! Not hitting the like or dislike button on this one...but enjoy your vids and look at this one as one for science.
Jen G's Aquatics I TOTALLY AGREE.
The nice thing about the globettas is that in “big box” stores, they’re being marketed as a fish that needs a minimum of 3 gallons, unlike regular bettas, which are marketed as only needing a .5 gal tank. I only hope they change that “requirement” for the rest of the bettas.
My globetta can see just fine. She is the happiest fish i have ever seen.
Go with Lemon Drop, that's such a cute name!
Matthew Grob that’s a cute name, I agree, Matthew 🍋
Lime Drop, bc he’s green!
I agree with you
Matthew Grob i agree i love the name Lemon Drop
I think hes adorable but he dosnt need to glo for me to find him cute.
I need a glow betta
Not for me, there are already beautiful natural colorations to choose from.
Weird take, it's like you think normal bettas have natural colouration? If you're referring to wild bettas then I take this comment back. But trust me, most bettas have had the genome messed with so much, there's really no significant difference selectively bred bettas and GMO bettas.
Rom I was referring to non-glo bettas. Perhaps natural was not the right word.

The whole idea of GMO fish is so weird...kinda interesting..but weird. I really do hope that not many others have vision issues.
Thank you for the well thought out comment!
I like your analogy to dogs as modified animals because you are bang on, about that.
@@kristinayagmin5893 was just about to comment the same thing
Me: ehh, i feel like normal betas are stunning enough...I dont get the point of one that's just a longer glo tetra
Your glo beta: blub
Me: oh no, hes so cute TOT
(seriously, his blank little stare...poor baby doesn't know what walls are or what flaring is but he's adorable.
Ady Tulley Agreed!!
I agree Ady
The science behind it is not hurting the fish. Do research
Erin H It’s not ok to manipulate animals for our entertainment and for aesthetics.

Awe,he's a cute little derpy betta 💗
Makes you wonder what offspring would look like with a normal female.
Entranced feline. No it’s not
Someone should breed it
@@Jesus-uy9tr I plan to breed a globetta with a koi betta just because I asked myself this same question
Blue Horizon it’s illegal to breed glo bettas. I mean. I guess you could if you want to but be careful. There is a statement on the glo betta packaging that says any intentional breeding, selling, trade, etc. is not prohibited
YES!
Such a shame. The original science for the reason they were developed led to this......
Detecting toxins?? Don’t you want to know if waterways are toxic
I don't like the idea of Glo animals, but I like your video, thank you for the information.
Nice neon 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love my glow Betta. We definitely have a bond. He comes to the glass as soon as he sees me and yes I talk to him and his gills flap wildly.
I currently use the Canon Rebel T7i as well as my phone, Samsung Galaxy s9+.
For editing I use Adobe Premier Pro and sometimes After Effects. I do a littlebit of color correcting because my phone has more saturated colors then my dslr so I try to make the footage match more and I make some shots a little brighter if needed.
@@CreativePetKeeping Thank you! I thought you might be using Adobe. I'm too old and cheap to use Premiere, ha ha. 😊
I just got Jason from primetimeaquatics to learn photoshop...its never too late! I believe in you
I got a glofish betta a couple weeks ago and he can see me from across the room (he’s constantly begging for food). He fins are becoming redder since I bought him. I wonder which variety of betta he is
No-one should be buying these sorts of GM fish or indeed any fish or pets that are bred for our 'enjoyment' whilst disabling living creatures
Awwe he is adorable.
I have a little female glow betta her vision seems perfect.
He’s so docile and cute. That’s what would make me love him. Not the colour
In my country, betta's original habitat is in the swamps with quite turbid running water.
That's why we use ketapang leaves to resemble their natural habitat
although it will reduce the beauty when putting it in an aquarium.
While these are not something that I would want to keep, if my special needs niece says that she would like one I will be buying one.
I have a glo tetra with the same eyes, wasn't sure if my fish is blind or has an illness, can't find any information on my fish.
He was cooked up in a lab so the list of genetic quirks could fill up this entire comment section. I will stick to my original theory - he has no soul. Cute, yes. soul - no......
my globetta just sits by the filter and doesnt really move around do you have any tips?
Creative Pet Keeping Thank you so much! Your tips are much appreciated. I’ll definitely be using them. 💙
I know that's not always the case though 😭

omg, I love to have a glo betta wish it will be available in my country
i recently got a female glo betta (just about 2 days ago) and i think she may be blind in one eye. i hope she will still be able to live a prosperous life with me though 😊 currently she is in a 3 gallon tank, but i will hopefully be upgrading to a 5-10 gallon tank in a few months around Christmas time. her tank has a filter, but i will be getting her a heater, some live plants to replace the fake ones in her tank, and maybe some treats (bloodworms) today ! i am a beginner, so if anyone has any tips to make sure she is happy it would be well appreciated !
I’m so sorry about your halfmoon today. It’s the worst. :( I hope to hear how your little glo-betta does, health-wise, in the long run!
My betta donnie is missing an eye and has a fogged up other eye. He has an easy time finding food on the ground but can’t find it if it’s floating.
U should breed it with a regular female to see how the offspring come out but it’s illegal :/
Very beautiful your glo betta. I wish you good luck, my friend.
I LOVEE my glo betta! I got him as a female but he is definitely a male. The one that I have does not have the florescent on his face but he is a cellophane. I’m happy that they don’t seek any tanks that are under 2.5 gallons.
I was surprised by the beautiful tropical fish Thank you for the good video😊🇯🇵👍
Again another very informative video... i can see the attraction to new fish keepers and when there available here will look at getting one ... would love to see a more in-depth video on these fish
had no idea there were glo bettas. I love the mix of color and big giant fins, so i don't think these guys would be for me. As long as the fish are healthy and don't suffer from the genetic mods, it's personal preference.
i LOVE IT!
Please do a video on glofish information to many people have so many misconceptions about glofish and hate them because they dont really know what they are or how they are created.
my dude gone be forever alone T_T anyways thanks for saving an innocent lab fish! you're the best!
Amazing colors fish..and great information...thankYou...yoi is awesome...Always
I have 3 glowing tetra fish and one just sits and chills but one of them always bullies the other one and takes all the food
My female goo betta behaved the same way. Kept bumping into the glass, wouldn’t greet me, and got spooked easily.
I want to buy glow betta, but I need to considered their condition. So I looking for someone to explain it. But suddenly, after I see them in dark and gloomy tank, it make me sad.
They should make glowing eels freshwater... would make them more popular
Be careful with the submarine! I’ve had one before in my tank and the paint flakes off!
i love betta fish
My husband and I stopped by Petco and saw the GloBetta fish and thought the exact same thing-- that they looked blind. And it wasn't just a few, it was like all of them. All of them had the same, milky-fogged eyes. This is so sad, I can't believe Petco is actually selling these fish. I know they're Big Business at the end of the day, but to so blatantly sell blind/disabled fish when they have signs around the store saying "we care about our animals, please let staff members know if you have any concerns"... It's incredible, and incredibly disheartening.
My sister and her husband gift me a globetta, you are the second RUclipsr who says that their betta is blind 😔
I just feel bad, I hope Sunny doesn’t go blind.
Crazy I bought one today and it had green eyes I thought to myself I hope it’s not blind 🤷🏾♀️ then I see this on my recommendations
I did see him react to shadows against bright light so he does see...something for sure.
What would happen if you bred him? Is that even allowed with the patent? I’m so curious about the genetics.
I really like this video didn’t even know their was glo fish bettas that’s crazy good video!
