Back when VH1 was good. IMO, it started going downhill around the late 1990s/early 2000s. When it became The Behind the Music channel. The show was a good show and all but it was on ALL THE TIME!
I think the heydey was really brief, like 1994 through 1998. Like you mentioned, BTM but also Pop-Up Video were on constantly and that's when I gave up and checked out. What I really liked about this mid-90's era was a lot of in-studio performances and the fact that a few of the VJ's (Amy Scott, Ian O'Malley) were absolute music nuts. There was some credibility there.
Hey now I liked Pop-Up Video. But when BTM took off VH1 treated the former like chopped liver. I missed out on it as I lived in a small town in South Alabama and all we had at the time was TNN, CMT, and BET as far as music channels went. We did not get VH1 and MTV until 2003 unfortunately. Also, in 1996 my mom and I moved to Orlando and when we briefly lived there I got a chan e to enjoy some of VH1. I loved the big 80s and Best of American Bandstand. My mom and I moved to Daytona Beach a few months after our return to FL and we had MTV but no VH1.
It was a blast working there. Timing was perfect with the channel going much more current music centric. We broke a ton of bands. Thanks for your support while there! Ian
I loved your work on VH1, Mr. O'Malley. Along with AJ, Amy, Robin, Cynthia, and John "Funny Man" Fugelsang. I loved watching these blocks of music videos every year for four years.
They really should bring these back every July 4th ! All jokes aside!
From Aaliyah to ZZ Top. That's a month's worth of videos.
Amy, the song is"They don't know"

AJ, Love is a Battlefield came out in 1983.
This was originally a daily block during the pre-Music First era.
I tried looking up Susan Brightbill I see that she is a writer. Is that the same onbe?
Looks to be!
I loved these blocks of videos they aired in alphabetical order (according to surnames and group names).
