  • **DISCLAIMER- I DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RECOMMEND OR SUGGEST THAT THE ADITS SHOULD BE ENTERED BY ANYONE WITHOUT THE CORRECT EQUIPMENT OR EXPERTISE. I HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO ENTER THE MINE TUNNELS!
So now that's out of the way, here's my latest video in "A Tenor's Trails" series.
This takes you from the site of the former Old Cwmbran railway station (Now Cwmbran drive for much of it), along the Monmouthshire/Brecon canal to the former site of the Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds foundry.
It then goes into the site of the former Cwmbran Colliery Adits built by the Patent Nut and Bolt Company. The water adit first and the main adit secondly.
I have been told that on the last day of coal production in 1927, the miners filled the drams as usual but were told to leave the coal in them and therefore inside the mine itself as the stone masons had arrived to block the mine entrance. So strictly speaking it should all be there some distance below the current ground level as the site was bulldozed in the 1960's, which explains why only the top of the arch can now be seen! It's quite surreal standing in roughly the same place as where the photograph in the video was taken knowing what lies beneath my feet!
After rejoining the canal we reach Pontnewydd and the remaining wall of the former Cwmbran Hotel and its sporting fields before finishing at the site of the former Upper Pontnewydd railway station further up Cwmbran drive!
I do not claim to be 100% accurate with my details within the video of the exact whereabouts of former sites and the video is purely for enjoyment and exercise through walking in my local area.
I hope you'll join me soon for another "A Tenor's Trails" and please feel free to like, comment and subscribe to these and my singing videos.

Thanks for the info, I didn't fancy crawling through any tight spaces! The video was from around early March time this year.
