What a cool video. Two of my favorite DIYers showing everybody what you can accomplish with some creativity and problem solving. I loved that you didn't need to use a table saw at all!
Thank you so much! Sam actually asked me if I wanted to use the table saw for some parts of it and I was like no thanks...it's honestly quicker and easier to just use the circ saw and cutting guides! No table saw needed :)
Thanks so much! When the doors are closed, you don't even notice the trim piece! I was glad we could figure out something else besides taking them down and cutting them shorter haha.
Thanks so much for following along! I'm so excited for Sam and her new workshop and am really happy she invited me to be a part of it. I hope this is just the first of many collabs together. We will see!
As much fun as it was to watch, it was way more fun to build-I hope I was able to share some of that fun with you through the video haha. I’m really hoping we can make another collab happen again soon!
Hi! Thanks for hopping over from Sam's channel! I hope you enjoy the videos over here as well. I definitely think we should have made this a four day build haha, but luckily we did it in 3--barely!
Glad that you and Sam could collaborate on this shop build! It is fantastic! Looks great! You two need to do this more often. You are so talented! Thanks for sharing this useful project! Please, please, please keep on building Shara! Hope you’re having a great weekend!
I appreciate you watching and so glad you enjoyed the mash up! I wish we lived closer…I think we’d do this all the time! But, I’m hoping to bring Sam down my way to collab again soon…we will see! Thanks again for watching and I hope you have an amazing weekend!
@@WoodshopDiaries …. That would be great if she could visit you and do another collaboration! You do fantastic carpentry and your videos are always amazing. I enjoy the way you always show the pitfalls and then your beautiful success! Lol…. Thanks Shara, you are an inspiration to so many, including myself!
Such fun to see you two working together! I cringed inside when I saw the black stain come out, but it turned out fantastic! Makes the butcher block top really pop. I would have never even gone there, so glad you did because I am rethinking that whole "I don't like black" thing. Beautiful work ladies. Thank you
Enjoyed this video so much! I find if I'm working with someone that even the project problems that arise don't bother me that much. It's just fun spending time with a friend and working on something together. The cabinets turned out really great!
I guessed/hoped you were Sam's guest, Shara. I started my shop cabinets two weeks ago and I wish I had seen this before I started because I have the same ledge as Sam. I figured it out, but it was touch and go. edited to say I used my Kreg Adaptive cutting system. Loved it!
You guessed right! I was so honored Sam asked me to join her on this project. Also, glad to hear you love the Kreg ACS! They make some really amazing and helpful products for building cabinets!
Such a fun collaboration, you guys did a great job and it was cool seeing you work together. I appreciate you showing when you realized there was an issue and how you worked through it, and like you said, we probably wouldn’t even notice if you didn’t point it out. 👍🏻
Okay so I'm not the only one that uses their foot to lift the doors! It's just the easiest thing to do when you don't have extra hands. Glad you collaborated on this as it helped me find your channel through Sam. The cabinets look amazing! Well done!
This is great! I didn't have the Kreg jigs when I built mine years ago so my joinery was different. Sometime try hammered paint as a finish. Extremely durable in a garage/shop environment. 👏👏👏💪👍
The Kreg tools definitely make things a lot simpler, quicker, and easier. I love them! But I will definitely have to check out hammered paint--that's interesting! Thanks for watching and following along. Happy building!
Shara, the cabinets look great, I love the process, and this video is very timely for us. We're doing some major work in our own shop as we try to figure out "where to put all of our STUFF!" But more importantly it looks like you and Sam had three days of a lot of fun. Isn't it great we can be covered with sawdust, grim, and gel stain and still laugh about it! What a fun project! Building with a friend + road trip all rolled into one. Y'all win the prize for "Most Shims Ever"... at least that floor will drain pretty fast! (I see you sneaked in your black&white vibe too...)
Honestly I wish it was a road trip and not an airplane trip haha 🤣 but either way, being there was an absolute blast! I am really hoping we can make this happen again soon!

So much fun to see you and Sam building together. I had to laugh when I saw you working on the floor and using a box as your work surface. Looks a lot like most of my builds!
I was determined I was not going to take this cabinet apart to cut off the top 2-3" haha. I really think the trim piece looked nice once finished, but it was a little extra work haha.
@@WoodshopDiaries I would have ripped the doors in two making two doors that would clear, more hinges but it would work and look pretty good. great project nice build. :-)
This was a fun video. I already follow Sam as well. Definitely will check out her miter station. I’m about to make new cabinets for my shop. I’ve got a good sized shop and I need better organization. Still deciding on what to do for miter station….. cabinets… or a mobile one that I can move out of the way? Should be fun.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! We had so much fun putting these together. That's funny you're trying to decide what to do with your miter saw station--I'm team "mobile" and Sam is team "cabinets haha. There are definitely pros and cons to each. Good luck with your decision! The great thing is you can always change it later if you change your mind ;)
Did not realize you are in Kentucky. Now, I am not sure which siode, east or west, but wanted you to know that on Wed, May 17, Ohio Power Tool in Columbus is having an open house from 10:00 to 1:00. Twelve of the top tool brands will be there. Not sure if you can mkae it, but I beleive they have it every year at this time. Also, I live down in Knoxville, TN.
Hey Shara, that must have been a fun time. Build came out great! Also seems simple but a little different using other people's tools. Isn't it? Nice video. On a side note I hope you got some sleep with that sunburn. 🥴 Have a great weekend!
It was the best time. So happy Sam invited me! But yes, it’s definitely different working in a new space and with other peoples tools. It threw me off a little at first 😅 and it definitely made filming more challenging. Anyway, I’m soaking in the sunburn 🤣 it’s almost gone haha. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great weekend too!
Great build! Ya lost me at the stain though. Looked better with a natural color. But thats me just not liking black stain on anything. Looks great though, i love building cabinets, way easier than people think!
A project wouldn't be exciting without a problem. Nice way to overcome the door issue. Also, for all those pocket hole screw haters, Sam is sitting in the cabinet, on the shelf, that was installed with nothing but pocket holes. Just sayin'! You ladies rock!
You are right! What fun is a project without a little troubleshooting along the way? Haha and yes, Sam sat in all of these cabinets to drill shelf pin holes--we joked that they were "Sam-sized" cabinet boxes. The pocket holes didn't budge a bit!
Thank you for the amazing video. My wife and I really loved it and are about to give it this a try. The only question we have is how bad is it to use pine plywood if you live in a coastal area ? Birch plywood is super expensive here. The other option we have is to use melamine? Would you recommend that at all? I know you’re big on plywood, looking for options here 😂😂😂
Do you find that 3 hinges work better than 2 hinges for the large pantry cabinets since the doors are so tall and the weight of the 3/4" plywood makes them heavy?
Hi! Thanks so much! Yes just cut the shims where needed. They should stay behind/underneath to keep the cabinet in place. But you can cut whatever is “sticking out” flush to the cabinet with a utility knife or oscillating tool.
The collab turned out great! I have been viewing your channel to get some pointers on cabinet making. You have definitely boosted my confidence for more builds. Can't wait for the next project!
Thanks so much! That’s a great question…I didn’t want to swap drill bits. I find it quicker and easier to just use a square (or not sometimes) and just drive the screws.
My shop cabinets are two years old and good as new. The kitchen and closet cabinets in my last house were built the exact same way and we had them for over three years of heavy daily use and they were as good as the first day I built them when we moved out. This was Sam’s cabinets and her finish choice she was very happy with it. So I don’t regret helping her accomplish exactly what she wanted.
Where are the plans? The link goes to your site and not the cut list
They’re linked in the video description where it says “grab the printable plans.” Here’s the link: woodshop-diaries.myshopify.com/products/garage-cabinet-plans
Where are the build plans for these garage cabinets?
They’re linked in the video description. I’ve linked them here as well: woodshop-diaries.myshopify.com/collections/workshop-projects/products/garage-cabinet-plans
the handles on the lower cabinets looks so not in place... why didn't you put them horizontal on top of the doors so it looks better
Thanks so much for your rude comment. I did it just to trigger you. Have a nice day 👍
It looks good, and wouldn’t be a real project if it didn’t have something like that 3” strip at the top of the door.
That's true! What fun is a project without a little problem solving haha!
I guess if the shelf can hold 120 ish pounds of her sitting on it then it’ll hold anything she wants to put on it.
Helo
You JUST made a workbench, why use a cardboard box?
It wasn’t finished yet. Also it was covered in tools. Cardboard box got the job done 👍
You girls have to much energy
I think “too much” is more like “not enough” 🤣 we were pooped after this!
@@WoodshopDiaries you guys can come do my garage in Illinois
Sorry for Sam but her channel does not speak to me as your channel does.
I’m glad you enjoy my channel. I know everyone isn’t for everyone. I’m sure many of her subs aren’t fans of mine and many of my subs aren’t fans of hers. But, either way, she’s incredibly talented and I’m blessed to call her a friend. I appreciate you watching!
