Barça players send signed shirt to Anthony Borges, hero of Stoneman Douglas shooting

- Anthony Borges, who played at the new Barça Academy in Lauderhill, near Fort Lauderdale, for two months in 2016, Florida, has received a club shirt signed by the first team players this week. And it’s a gesture that he most certainly deserves. For the 15-year-old of Venezuelan origin is a true hero.
He goes to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, the scene of tragedy this week when a former pupil shot dead 14 students and three staff members and injured several others.
Anthony received five bullet shots in the back and limbs as he helped 20 classmates to take refuge in one of the rooms while holding the door - and thanks to his gallantry the death toll, horrific as it already is, was not much higher.
Barcelona dream
Now in hospital recovering, one of Anthony’s greatest dreams has always been to travel to Barcelona and meet the first team players. And as the club told his father Royer on the phone this week, it would be more than happy to help with that.
It was journalist Santiago Segurola who set things in motion. He informed the club of the situation, and Barça immediately offered the support of its own medical services to help ensure that Anthony gets all the surgery he needs to get back to enjoying one of his greatest passions, playing soccer, as soon as possible.

Anthony Borges es un chico de 15 años que el 14 de febrero pasado recibió el impacto de cinco balas en la espalda y las extremidades cuando ayudó a 20 compañeros a refugiarse en un aula mientras él sostenía la puerta. Así los salvó de los disparos de un ex alumno que disparaba indiscriminadamente en el instituto de secundaria Marjory Soneman Douglas, de Parkland (Florida). El chico, de origen venezolano, es aficionado del Barça y en 2016 estuvo entrenando en la Barça Academy de Lauderhill, cerca de Fort Lauderdale (Florida), una de las seis escuelas que tiene el Club en Estados Unidos.
Anthony recibirá en los próximos días un regalo muy especial: una camiseta firmada por los jugadores del primer equipo, en reconocimiento a su actuación heroica, que evitó que se incrementara la cifra de 17 muertos a manos del antiguo alumno Nikolas Cruz, de 19 años.
El sueño de viajar a Barcelona
Anthony Borges está ingresado en el hospital y tiene una motivación extra para recuperarse pronto. En el horizonte planea un viaje a Barcelona para visitar el Camp Nou y conocer a los jugadores azulgranas, tal como el Barça ha prometido a su padre, Royer Borges, en una conversación telefónica.
El Barça, al conocer la historia de Anthony por el periodista Santiago Segurola, y a través del Área de las Barça Escuelas del Club, se movilizó para contactar con la familia y ponerse a su disposición. El padre de Anthony ha agradecido el apoyo del Barça y el ofrecimiento de ayudar a recuperar la alegría del chico haciéndolo venir a Barcelona lo antes posible. Además, el Barça también pondrá a disposición de la familia sus servicios médicos para colaborar en la recuperación de la Anthony, que ha sido sometido a varias intervenciones quirúrgicas, para que pueda volver a jugar al fútbol, una de sus pasiones.
