Ahhhhh, the sound of those engines reversing....I commuted MCO-EWR as a F/A for the late great Continental Airlines and that aft jumpseat between the two lavs was my seat more often than not. Thanks for sparking a great memory....I miss it.
I worked for McDonnell Douglas, Long Beach, CA, during the 1980's/90's. Part of the time, on the MD-80 program. Flew on them often, in and out of SNA, via AA. I always enjoy watching videos about them. Still think they are a beautiful plane in flight. One of the great work horses of aviation. Along with the venerable DC-3.
Hey buddy, the MD-82 is an excellent aircraft absolutely. Supposed to be the competitor to the 727. They're nice and loud upon takeoff. And man do they climb. And sharp engine tune inside the cabin. Very very nice. Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!
fun to see a video on one of these again. this is probably the only type of plane I still have nostalgia for, except maybe those ATR 72s that used to fly out of my little airport.
Last MD-80 flights I took were from Albuquerque to Myrtle beach and back through Charlotte Douglas International Airport on American MD-80 both ways, except for the short leg over to Myrtle beach that was on some Embraer 175. Probably back in 2014. I remember a flight to California to visit my brother in the early 90's while he was in collage that was also on an American MD-80 from Chicago to San Francisco. I was in the last row and I seem to remember that row of seats did not recline, or hardly reclined at all. Your trip to the bathroom at 13:22 clearly shows reclined seats in the last row, that man in the blue shirt was dead to the world ;). BTW, I like how to labeled some landmarks along the way with their logo none the less!
I miss that plane ... A lot!! First was part of my childhood during the 80's and early 90's thru Aeromexico that included 3 daily flights to my hometown (CEN).. Then I took a couple of Delta and American Airlines domestic flights from TUS, in the later 90's and early 2000's . I miss their big and comfortable windows !
One of my favorite planes ever built! Was lucky enough to fly with it in Kazakhstan with Tez Jet last December, the sound of the engines is something unforgettable! Big like from me
very cool plane, I just so happend to be in la romana 3 days before and I managed to see that exact plane taking off. Thanks for sharing this trip experience on what is a truly iconic airplane
Great video! Love the video where you are sitting down having a drink and the engine in the back ground! Super cool!!! (15::00 time slot) I also enjoy that landmarks you put on when you fly over it.. Super smooth landing btw. Great to see the MD 80 still in service but I know its retiring soon, Thanks for sharing and safe travels.
I grew up flying these things too! At delta it was the MD-88, used to fly em up to Minnesota every summer until they got retired in 2020. I think delta still flies the 717, which is similar
Love this! I flew into La Romana twice on AA in Shorts 360(?) many years ago when I went to Club Med. Great memories! And… I read the Post every day first thing! Bravo young man! 👍
Spotted one of their MD-82 at MIA a few weeks ago upon arrival from LAX. Was great to see the aircraft after so long personally but I hadn’t known much about the airline itself, great video!
Yo quint I am from England and I would really like you to do a British Airways A380 business class trip report from Los Angeles (LAX) to London Heathrow (LHR) on the upper deck. Thank you and this video was great!
Nice one. I flew down to the DR about a week and a half after you, albeit on a less interesting aircraft. 737-900ER in my case, EWR-STI. Stayed a week in Puerto Plata, then back home on a 737 Max 9 - people can freak out as much as they like, but the Max 9 is a very nice plane to fly on. And probably the safest one in the sky after the rigorous inspections it’s gone through lately!
Great video. don't think you can have a "bad" MD80 video :) - crushed to see these amaxing beauties getting replaced by some A320s that frankly are not much younger. on a side note : we still have a MD80 charter operator in the US that flies regualrly between MIA and various cities in Cuba and some other places in the US (World Atlantic). Hope you can manange to fly them one of these days . Great stuff QFS
Great video...I remember the DC-9s that Hawaiian Air flew back in the 90's...loved that at Hawaii Island/Kona/Keahole (KOA) you could deplane by the tail cone exit. They don't allow that on the B-717 inter-island fleet they fly. OK, how much older is this aircraft than you LOL 🤣?
Skyhigh Dominicana does the same, but through SDQ. They fly MIA-SDQ-CCS full of Venezuelans with Embraer 190. Actually from SDQ Venezuelans can fly to CCS or to VLN.
"Every seat is leftover from American Airlines" -- as is the pitch, I see. I flew these jets about every two weeks in the late 90s going from AUS to OAK and hated them. After six months of that, I finally switched to Continental/AmericaWest and their equipment was much better. Still, it's nice to see this video.
Another great video from the master movie maker QFSAviation. Enjoyed everything about this video. Everyone be sure to like and subscribe. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!
I have always had a fondness for this aircraft. Probably because the first jet airliner I ever flew on was an Air Canada DC-9 almost 60 years ago as a young child and I can still remember the distinctive smell inside that aircraft. Of course, back then you could still smoke on an airliner and lots of people did so the smell of cigarettes permeated the interior of the aircraft which TBH was not a bad thing at least to my olfactory senses as a kid at least as I remember it although I might think differently today. I imagine the experience of flying on an MD-82 was not much different than that of flying on a DC-9 almost 60 years ago. Of course back then they didn't have "leather" seats. Instead, they were fabric. Comfortable but not practical from a maintenance standpoint especially if a passenger had an "accident". Also back then there were no overhead bins just a large open shelf for your jacket. Carry-on luggage had not been invented, and neither had roll-on luggage. As for inflight entertainment that was still decades in the future but otherwise, I don't think the overall experience was much different on the old DC-9 vs the MD-82 or for that matter any other modern airliners. Also in that era, I remember flying on the much larger DC-8. Very similar to the DC-9 but with 6-abreast seating instead of 5-abreast. Back then as a kid, you were invited by the "Stewardess" (No guys back then! They were flying the plane!) to visit the cockpit and I can remember as a kid on an Air Canada DC-8 flight to Montreal getting invited to the cockpit and I remember the co-pilot pointing at some clouds far off in the distance and telling me that we were going to fly through where he was pointing. It's too bad that kids today don't get that experience because I think that one visit to the cockpit inspired a life-long love of aviation in me. One of the big differences then vs. now is even on short domestic flights you got a full meal served on what I recall were trays, plates, and cups made from bakelite. Of course today you are lucky to get a bag of peanuts and a plastic cup of water! Thank you for this video. I always enjoy your travels!
this is not thd last MD80 flight for red air they still fly lol. they could not pay their rented a320 so they just operate just one MD82 which is HI1069
with a few modifications upgrade the cockpit. modifications on the engines. inspect the hull of the aircraft repair any problem. plane will last 35 more years
At 19:48 Americans can still fly to Venezuela but now a very slim to none chance of flying on one based on airline, person, and airport restrictions etc.
The MD-80 series will always have a special place in my heart!
The sound of those engines is absolutely unmistakable!
Ahhhhh, the sound of those engines reversing....I commuted MCO-EWR as a F/A for the late great Continental Airlines and that aft jumpseat between the two lavs was my seat more often than not. Thanks for sparking a great memory....I miss it.
Such a fun and last minute trip! Thanks for joining me!
Thanks QFS!
Taking off like a rocket, steep in those mad dogs has always been impressive !

I'm (5 year) retired AA flight attendant- I was MIA based so I loved the video in and out of MIA and the E gates... so many memories. Great job!
Very great review of this old bird. Sad to see her retire.
That engine sounds is amazing
Sweet trip report onboard Red Air’s MD82 keep up the amazing hard work miss the Mad Dogs as Aviation and the skies aren’t the same without them.

Found ya through your NetJets videos since I fly for them. Stayed because your reviews are always very interesting 🤟🏻
Отлично Квентин, в своё время MD был очень хорошим самолётом✈👍
Cool Video QFS! I remember when this was happening on your instagram! Are you also going to show the emergency landing incident?
Thanks Luke! I'll upload that video at a later date, what a disaster that was trying to get home from La Romana 😂
@@QFSAviation Yeah I remember watching all the instragram stories about it! Was it your first 7700?

Did you have to reserve the lavatory? Noel Philips did when he flew Red Air on the MD80.
No I did not, that’s crazy that he had to do that? Must have been a Covid rule?
Wow. A MD-80 and an A300 in the same (recent) video. Love this.
Good report - great plane, my favorite ! Not many around anymore but I see a few in my home Montreal, Canada.

I love that I feel that feeling in your stomach when I watch the takeoff
Awesome trip report mate!! Nice to see MD-82 still flying in 2024
Интересное путешествие по южным аэропортам. В США тоже старые самолёты активно эксплуатируются ✈️

Nice one Q. Great wing & engine view.
Love that you have my country´s flag (Greenland) on your bag - Great vid, and what a treat that it´s on the mad dog.
Flew thousands of miles on AA Mad Dogs. Loved the aircraft. Thanks for vlog! 👍
What a wonderful video man! Liked!
Muy bueno el vídeo del MD -82 felicitaciones 👍
One of the last flights in MD. All MDs returned to Venezuela and Red is leasing an A320.
Most of my flying career was when the DC-9 was a modern update on the Sud Aviation Caravelle or BAC-111.
I have always liked the Mad Dogs. If you sit up front, you can barely hear the engines at all. It’s almost like you’re on a glider.😊
Nice landing👍

There is an airline in Indonesia called Airfast and it seems they do still operate the md83. You can check it out

I wonder if these birds are going to be retired or to be put back into the Laser fleet where they had originally came from.
3:01 (where i left off) Great video Quintin!
Nice video. Like the chill music.
Very nicely done video.
Nice video friend! I’m a proud md80’ Pilot…
Nice flight. Comfy seat. I would request upgrade to business since i'm 6ft2in tall and weigh about 225 pounds. Thanks Quintin💚👍
Miss the power backs from the gate. When fuel was less expensive.
Wow! This was interesting
0:15 what is that? why is that planet still here!?
Caribbean air transportation is growing fast.

love your music. as usual
I find old planes really cool but my question is are they safe ?
Just a pity that your seat was next to a somewhat dirty window / porthole,or was it opaque with age ? 🤔
Hey! You should try flying AeroMexico

Thank god lol
Pulled up for some nolstalgia
Why tou had to add 10 finger prints?
Back in the day I used to fly an MD-80 with Allegiant during the mid-late 2010s decade til they transitioned to all-Airbus like Red Air will do.
I flew in 2017 on allegiant md80 because there was no other option for my destination, it was a crazy throwback in history, it felt so old.
min 08:35 A330 de Aerolineas Argentinas ¡¡¡¡¡¡ Austral supo tener MD 83 en su flota
I hope I can fly on Red Air's MD-82 before they are retired or replaced.
Sad to see the MD80s disappear from the skies

Thanks for do a video about a dominican airline🙏
I would recommend downloading movies onto your tablet or laptop if you have one if your flight has no Wi-fi.
The iPhone 15 pro was not made in 2022. Unless you meant to put the date as of January 31, 2024.
The video was filmed in 2024 and the intro of the video says that, but I messed up the description, fixing it now thank u! 🙏
@@QFSAviation In other words, was the takeoff filmed with the iPhone 15 Pro?
@@pianostar839 no that was filmed with a GoPro. The only iPhone shots in this video I can think of was of the Laser MD-81 in LRM
@@pianostar839 Technically, not a single inch of film was used in the production of this video.
At the beginning of the video rip AA MD80s!!!
They crashed at MIA! RED Air Flight 203
June 21, 2022
I would never step foot on Red Air
Y u have to add music ? To me it messes the video up
The miami tower looks the same from 1997 where Fine air flight 101 crashed
I see Global x Airlines the new airlines in the usa
Boarding took forever which seems odd
At 19:48 Americans can still fly to Venezuela but now a very slim to none chance of flying on one based on airline, person, and airport restrictions etc.
Slower recover for the Dominican Republic from COVID interesting while in the US everything has surpassed pre pandemic numbers
Ah I will miss the Mad dog
rip Red Air Md 80s!!!
This interior looks like me American Airlines, but seat covers are charged.
I'm Venezuelan... I'll scary to flight in this aircraft
Ah why hello beautiful American MD82/83
Reverse ops takeoff in Miami!!!
