  • In one of the earliest healing miracles in the gospels Jesus Christ makes an important statement about his ministry. He healed not only to alleviate physical pain, but to reunite the outcasts with the rest of the community.
A Summary of the Cleansing of the Leper Story
Leprosy is a skin disease described in detail in the Old Testament book of Leviticus. A person with leprosy was banished from the community because of the contagiousness of the disease. The law of Moses provided instructions for ritual purification for those whose leprosy had been overcome. This is an important backdrop to the story.
A leper, who should be separated from Jesus and the others, comes up to Jesus and begs to be made clean.
Jesus is moved with mercy to heal the leper.
Jesus then sent the man to a priest in order to receive the ritual purification to be welcomed back into the community.
The man experienced more than physical pain. He was suffering from loneliness as an outcast.
He was, of course, overjoyed. Despite Jesus’s request not to tell anyone about the miracle, the man shared the story with everyone he could find.
Jesus quickly became so famous that he was forced to remain in deserted places to avoid the crowds of people.
    The Meaning of the Story
Like the leper, the most important kind of healing we receive is healing of division and loneliness. When you feel cast out or rejected, turn to Jesus for mercy. God is love and he will welcome us back with open arms. The Church today also seeks this reconciliation and healing of divisions as well.

Please your bible and pray the spirit will lead and teach you.
Cleansing and healing as a grace from Christ our Lord has little to do with human social acceptance.
