    On the way back home to Minnesota from the U.P. an injured SireSingletrack thought it would be wise to ride a trail in the CAMBA system called “Rock Lake”. It definitely earned its billing as rocks were everywhere which wound up being rough on my shoulder as well as my endurance. Overall I enjoyed this 14 mile loop which is classified as an IMBA epic ride, but probably would have enjoyed it much more if my shoulder was in working order and I wasn’t battling the lingering effects of teleportation sickness but hey, that’s life.

    Thanks for the ride! I helped build several sections of Rock Lake and loved it! But a degenerative muscle disease put an end to my mountain biking in 2020 so I haven't seen that beautifully treacherous single track in a long long time. Brings back memories, although I did have to slow it down to simulate my riding speed. Which made the music even darker! LOL.

      Even bigger thanks to you for taking part in the creation of trails enjoyed by thousands already and going forward far into the future. I love the deep woods feel I get hitting the CAMBA trails, and will definitely try to pay them more visits (especially en route to the U.P.). Also yeah the song is pretty dark from the jump so slowing it down would likely have that effect 😅. I just wanted something with a more acoustic, folky vibe I guess and thought it (not the lyrics) complimented the surroundings. Interestingly the lead of the project, Devin Townsend, is a pretty eccentric and talented metal head. More recently though a lot of his music has been more positive which is a breath of fresh air for the genre. I digress. Thanks again for helping bring the great outdoors, excitement and adventure to the people 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

      Glad you enjoyed the vid. I figured an injured version of myself struggling on XC trails might be a chore for some to watch and was kinda hesitant to upload these last two videos. I was wondering when the inevitable trail encounter would happen. I’m gonna take a wild guess that you and Jeremy ran into each other on Goat? He’s been really feisty lately, sending some major drops and jumps. Did either, or both, of you guys clear that gap jump at the bottom? Cool you guys met up, he’s a fun dude to ride with and has definitely helped me level up this season.

      Very unique skinny. I’m pretty comfortable on skinnies but not enough to take the skinnier option to the left here. Mess that up and it’s a long, wet ride back to the car.

      The skinny wasn’t too bad honestly, unless it gets inside your head. Then again I took the easy route, I wasn’t about to Franklin around with that option on the left.

      Wish I had more time to ride in the CAMBA system but just scratched the surface. FlowMama, Seely Pass and Dirt Candy(the only machine cut but has big drops and jumps apparently) were others I wanted to hit. Rock Lake is cool, 14 miles and took a lot out of me. Just a heads up though I’ve heard from 3 people now that riding this in the summer is Mosquitopocalypse. I got lucky and rode it in the fall.

    One of the prettiest trails in the midwest in my opinion. Good call on going in fall. Not only do you get the fall colors and cool temps, but the lack of mosquitoes is key. I went there in July a few years ago on a 85° day and barely made it out. Lots of standing water in the area creating perfect mosquitoe spawning habitat. Stopping was a bad option and that skinny bridge was under 6 inches of water. Next time I'm going in fall.

      I knew of a couple guys who rode this in the summer and they called it Bug Lake. I don’t think I saw one 🦟 the entire ride. That sucks about the skinny bridge being underwater.

    I really dug this trail when I was there a few years back. I was so tired after this ride. It was a bit of a sh*t show. Broke my derailleur and single speeded it back to the car.

    • @ElTerrible2011
      @ElTerrible2011  3 года назад

      Yeah I heard about this trail from your vid actually so thanks, it was a cool ride. I wish I was in better condition for the ride as it is taxing as hell. Luckily I had cool temps to deal with but my shoulder was throbbing with pain after navigating the one hundredth rock garden or so. The full body teleportation soreness was a real bear as well. If you like Rock Lake hit up that Cruser’s Kettle trail. Kinda similar though the Kettle has more fun and gnarly options. Wanted to check out the newer CAMBA trails like Dirt Candy but didn’t have the time (or energy) afterwards.
