If you want to succeed in certain areas, you need to accept and follow advice, which is how you improve. It's two different things being alone voluntarily or not. Shy people just find it hard to talk to certain people, therefore making it hard to talk to new people and make friends even if they wanted to. Therefore being by themself is not necessary by choice. It might be a choice based on the (in this case)worse alternative which is talking to other people. But that is a choice not made by you, but by your anxiety.
While it's more common for introverts to be shy, lots of introverts are not. They just like and need to be alone to recharge, but can still love to talk, be confident, and be outgoing among friends and even strangers. They choose to be by themself when they want to.
Just like extroverts can be shy as well, they just need people to feel energized.
Not saying shy people can not be confident people, but they are not confident when they are shy. It's the cause of their shyness. Pewds is shy, but he is generally a confident dude.
Didn't mean to write a whole essay as a response. But as someone that is shy, has anxiety, depression, and is introverted, 4 different things that often get mixed up by many. Outwardly and inwardly. I felt like it was a subject I could speak on :)
I also have an extroverted friend that is not an insecure person but can be very shy depending on the circumstances. They have a bit of anxiety/insecurity when interacting with certain people, often strangers.

As an introvert I think the thing to do is to learn to tolerate small amounts of discomfort if you really want to take a social opportunity. And make sure you’re rested and fed and hydrated, and feel calm and alert. And have a place to calm down and relax afterwards

it's all about not being to hard on yourself really. It's hard but learn to appreciate your good qualities, and identifying your short comings is also crucial, but to push out of your comfort zone more and more, even if its with the smallest of baby steps.
