    DA:TV was NOT nominated for GOTY. I was wrong. What a plot twist. Turns out that GOTY are not just bootlickers but also scaredy cats, who in a fear of controversy just create one. Bravo. Should've seen it coming after ignoring Hogwats Legacy, last year. And this isn't me saying that DATV should've been nominated - obviously not, but that they will rather ignore Stellar Blade because they are afraid that might send wrong message too. Let's just nominate DLC and it will be all okay. A clown show.

      It’s funny that they were only nominated for 1 category, it was for accessibility/innovation. I hope they lose that one too 😂

      I was also surprised. I was sure that Bioware already had a deal behind the scenes to win GOTY and boost sales.
      Glad that Failguard isn't nominated tho.
      I hate that game so much, it destroyed my favorite franchise.

      Also BG3 is the best comparison because BioWare made BG and BG2. They were the kings of rpg games, once upon a time, that's the standard they're being compared to: their own company's past and legacy

    The faces look uncanny valley to me. I wouldn't call them ugly for the most part, but not cute either. They're like doll faces that move... and doll faces shouldn't move, making it vaguely unsettling.
    As for who it is for... the devs. It's been said 'games as therapy', which seems accurate. It's said art should be made for yourself, but entertainment should be made for the customer. What we have here is art, not entertainment. That's not to say it's GOOD art (I haven't played it so I can't say), but art regardless.

    I have the answer to your first and last question: Trick Weekes wrote the character Tash, which is truly baffling because this is the same person who wrote Solas, lol. They were also the lead writer of the Trespasser DLC. Additionally, they wrote Mordin Solus and Tali'Zorah from Mass Effect. How the same person can produce such a wide range of quality in their work is beyond me.

    I feel like adding Taash into the game is the decision that caused this games downfall. Now Biowares reputation is ruined and huge parts of their fan base are disenfranchised. I am not sure if they should even keep working on Mass Effect 5 at this point. When it comes to selling the game, they will most likely face an uphill battle. People will expect another Taash situation, especially after they already made Liara use "They/Them" pronouns in the Mass Effect board game.
    If anything, Mass Effect 5 will probably even have less sales than Dragon Age: The Veilguard.. especially if the identity politics leak before the game comes out. It's okay to add "diverse" characters like Taash as optional content. Putting these characters front and center is a terrible decision though. Especially if their entire companion story is all about "identity". They call her a dragon hunter, all she knows is how to blow a horn and prepare bait.. something every hunter in Thedas probably knew how to do.
    Her story should have been about dragon hunting. The pronoun-thing? One dialogue, giving the player a choice in regards of which pronoun Rook uses and be done with it. If they had done it like that, no one would have cared.
    Making Taash look odd and writing her character insufferanble and stupid did not help her case either.
    I now expect there to be an Asari that looks and acts like Taash in ME5.

    • @zuzisam
      @zuzisam  2 месяца назад +2

      They will make Mass Effect 5 because it's the last hope for BioWare to even stay open. Pretty sure EA will give them ultimatum, you either make this good or you are done. With that being said - I don't think they can make it good. They can't fire people like Corinne Busche and those They/Thems writers because it would "look bad" so maybe they'll get different positions within the company but they are staying and they will push the agenda.
      You are absolutely right tho, Mass Effect will have it hard because everyone will remember this nonsense. DA is dead (until 10 years from now BioWare will be gone, someone in Larian will get bored and gets the rights and make a new game, but I digress, lmao)

    • @nyx2903
      @nyx2903 2 месяца назад +1

      @@zuzisam I'm not so sure that EA will give them an ultimatum like this. Dragon Age 2, Anthem, Mass Effect Andromeda and now Dragon Age: The Veilguard were all games that made EA unhappy if I'm not mistaken.
      For EA standards Bioware already got a lot of second chances I think. The only reason they are still there is probably Dragon Age Inquisition, which sold 12 million copies as far as I know. I can see EA cutting their losses at this point, especially if Mass Effect 5 ends up in development hell as well.. The Veilguard ended up there for a while and now we all know why 😅
      But should they make it I think the same thing as you.
      Personally I believe these DEI hires resulted in a bad echo chamber at Boware. I am sure there were lots of people at Bioware who were not happy with Taash, but can you imagine working there and speaking out about this? Anyone who would do this would probably be called a bigot and ruin their own career with that. And because of that, I think Bioware suffers from a huge toxic positivity issue, which can probably not be solved as long as certain people work there.
      I do like the idea of Larian Studios creating the next Dragon Age though 🙂

  • @justaquietpeacefuldance
    @justaquietpeacefuldance 2 месяца назад +7

    My main problem with Veilguard and pronouns or term 'non-binary' isn't just situated within the context of this game or a fanstasy/medieval setting it's taking place in. For me as a European and for many other people, the translation for Veilguard is absolutley god awful - in other languages the inclusion of pronouns doesn't end at "they/them" ocasionally used in caracter creation or within the game's dialouges. Our translation has been compleatly butchered. In my language we add gender-specific suffixes to verbs, adjectives, also all nouns are inherently of the feminine, masculine or of neuter gender. Because the woke-crowd can't really settle for using plural form (crazy people and demons use plural) or being reffered to as "it" (well, obvious reasons) so they've come up with compleatly MADE UP suffixes instead! Now imagine something to that effect - you're not only made to call Taash "they" but also construct sentences like "Taash was thinkinx", "Taash looks beautifulx" - because that's exacly how it is for me when I play with translation. This absolutley takes a dump on my cultural identity and will NEVER be accepted. It's usually the final nail in the coffin for games with that kind of superficial inclusion and will continiue to be rejected. We as audience want well written, complex characters, not the inclusion of feminist slang from 1995 NYC and pamphlets written by activists who don't care about their own language, let alone other cultures.
    So please, woke-devs - take a wide fkn step back before you make another attempt at destroying my native language. World doesn't revolve around English and this is not a way to win any culture war you're currently waging. My country wasn't on the map of Europe for 123 years at one point in history and my language had survived. Make no mistake - we can survive your propaganda and come out on top, eeeasily.

      (Angry upvote) The problem is way bigger than you think.
      "They" want to be respected while disrespecting other cultures and values, sometimes even their own. It also looks like it's a typical shift of "the oppressed are trying to become the oppressor". I don't have anything against LGBT folks because as a materialist and Marxist I know where all of it comes from, and I do not blame them, BUT the moment they try to force their views and values onto still a majority of NORMAL people, I'll fight back ferociously. People hate labels and being hated based on the said labels, but at the same time they come up with more stupid identities and stuff, and for what? There are only two genders - biologically you're either a man or a woman, everything else is an artificial and NOT needed construct created to keep the society divided and confused. If anything, those people need a proper medical and psychiatrical help, which, guess what, they cannot afford due to bs health care systems everywhere, in any country! And so, instead of uniting for bigger cause like improving health care, economic situation et cetera for everyone, we all (not only them, but also normal folks just from different industries) just sit in our own bubbles either fighting for stupid and meaningless ideas, or doing nothing and not caring about people of poorer professions like drivers, delivery workers, outsourced staff and many others.
      After all, as one smart grandpa once said, "People always have been the foolish victims of deception and self-deception in politics, and they always will be until they have learnt to seek out the interests of some class or other behind all moral, religious, political and social phrases, declarations and promises."
