This is done in shotokan; it's just a low crescent kick variation that is often used at old school full contact tournaments but almost never at sport-karate events. I also have used the variation you mentioned in non-sport judo at range.

The cutting-kick is also taught in Filipino Kali.
Please make a video explaining the subtle differences between Ashihara & Enshin Kara Te.
    Thank you.

    Oss! Very cool.
I first experienced this 20 years ago in an old-school Kyokushin dojo where my Shihan often used it during sparring with the sabaki technique.
We also drilled it during mawashi geri, leg conditioning partner drills, done, outside, inside, inside, outside.
Dutch muay Thai often uses the cutting kick angle, as their bread and butter roundhouse, ala` Ernesto Hoost.
Dutch kickboxing also calls suporting leg counter kicks, "submarine kicks".
I practice most kicks three ways: break the board/ snapping, kick the can, pushing or following through like muay Thai.

These types of kicks are very common in various south East Asian martial arts, e.g. Silat, Muay Thai, Lethwei, Bando, Kali.

In my style of kenpo(IKCA), we use that kick to the outside of the thigh to take opponent down. We focus on street defense so a majority of our kicks are groin kicks. I like the idea of going to the inside of the thigh to break the balance.

This is a good technique but I'd be surprised if they don't also do this in kyokushin.

We do, but to break posture/momentum - i.e. as intermediate step and not as final finish. E.g. getting dominant side position and finishing with a round life shot (same as boxing just boxers know how to defend such😂)

  • @foxesruler

What if you don't know that this exact punch is coming... can you really react with this correctly and timely?

  • @Pifagorass
    @Pifagorass 8 месяцев назад

Shinkiokushin has punch similar to poxing but instead of punch to face lands downward to the chest area. Bit artificial due to restrictions to punch the face snd will not find such in a point Karate.

      Thanks for your support!
Back flips and tameshiwari (test breaking) doesn't seem to be part of the Ashihara syllabus, though it's not uncommon for Instructors to be knowledgable in them since it's popular for exhibitions.
Ask your sensei and see what he/ she knows!
