What colour is the fingerboard? I'm seeing on ESP's website the image make the fingerboard look black, yet other sites it looks more brown? I'm looking at "ebonising" fretboards if it isn't black. Also unsure whether to get this over an EC-256 as there are more reviews of the 256 since it has been out longer so I don't know how it compares playing wise to the 201.
The fingerboard is definitely a dark brown as far as comparing this to the EC 256 I don't know about the EC256 but I am 100 percent happy with my guitar I have been enjoying mine for 3 months now and it hasn't disappointed yet I put some nut lube on it and I still have the original strings and it hold tune. anyway I love the pickup it kinda sounds like a Duncan Distortion. I'm sure you would enjoy this one :D
I think it plays like a better Les paul. its lighter and more manageable. Also I find I really enjoy the coil tap option and I use it a lot. It feels like a more expensive guitar to me. Ken :D
The tuning stability is like any les paul style guitar the G string is a problem but not a big problem. I just ordered some nut lube for my next re string after that I should have a better idea about just how stable the tuning can be :D

Just bought an M 201 and replaced the pickup with a seymour duncan invader. Killer riffing machine !
