  • In April, 16-year-old Kyle Plush died in an Ohio school parking lot after getting trapped and suffocating under the third row seat in his family’s minivan. While Plush managed to call 911, police did not locate him. His family is now advocating for upgrades to the 911 system with their campaign, Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation. NBC’s Blake McCoy shares Plush’s story as his parents, Ron and Jill, join Megyn Kelly TODAY in their first live interview.

I remember in 4th grade I was in LEGO club with Kyle. We would make robots out of LEGOs and it would do challenges. And I distinctly remember him because he was the only person who knew what he was doing. He was so smart, even then. I remember we built a table for the robot to the challenges on and the parents who were helping us were so stressed because they had messed up the math on the blueprints for the table and he was able to say “well this doesn’t line up so it must be this block of wood that is wrong”. Even the adults couldn’t figure it out. He was such a good person and had so much to give to the world. This is devastating.

@@elizabethann42 Talk about having grace under pressure! This couple is an amazing example for any parent who experiences the horrible tragedy of losing their child.
It’s said that most (many) parent couples end up divorced because of the overwhelming grief just pulls them apart.
However, this couple doesn’t seem to be blaming one another.
I pray they’ll receive the blessed “peace that passes understanding.”

Gabrielle Ladder, a young man lost his life due to a freak accident. He is not to blame for his own death. Display some compassion instead of victimizing. Clearly, every 911 call must be taken seriously, but these 911 operators have a tendency to treat some calls with a lack of professionalism. Failing to Relay critical information to the police displays incompetence. Even the 911 operators tone of voice lacks compassion , the system as a whole failed this young man. Prayers of strength for his family~ May the good LORD be with them in there mourning. steve b, that is absolutely NOT what I said! I have three children, and I’ve lost a 4th in pregnancy. I was referring to the fact that this child did call 911 for help, the police drove by for one of the calls, and did not bother to get out, and investigate further! That is adding insult to an already tragic situation. Any time a parent looses a child it’s heartbreaking! The hiring is a problem. I was hired as a 911 dispatcher and got zero training in Texas, they just expect you to know how to handle situations. I was also 18 straight out of high school. I got out cause I didn't want to get anyone hurt cause I wasn't trained to understand how to relay information properly to police and I would just get laughed at(everything is recorded)The pressure is insane cause it could be your fault if someone doesn't get the help they need. They left it up to trial and error for you to learn. They could of least gave a power point on how to do this properly for every situation but I was just supposed watch a dispatcher take a call when a 911 call comes in and then get the hang of it, there is so much to learn and making a mistake cause you haven't encountered that situation will haunt your dreams.

When someone calls 911 instead of someone they know, you have to take into consideration that he or she might not be able too. There was a case where a woman called 911 because her phone was broken and she just got a a new one when she got in trouble. In this situation, the boy was not able to reach his phone. He called 911 via Siri.

@@ShesBeyondBeauty the make and model of his van has had a history of the third row seat coming off the tracks that anchor it to the floor, allowing the seat to flip backwards. When he leaned far over and down the back, to reach his tennis equipment, the seat flipped backwards, and pinned him, crushing his chest and suffocating him. Many years ago back in 1992 I bought a brand new Ford Aerostar Mini Van. One day I decided to unhook the 3rd row bench seat to see how it unhooks and hooks back in. That seat was sooooo darn heavy I couldn't even lift it myself to take it out of the van and put on the ground and I was a heavy and strong 28 year old woman at the time. This story is very sad but I think this boy's chest/lungs got crushed by the weight and that's how he died.
