iRacing NEEDS to fix this...

  • iRacing NEEDS to fix their penalty system. While the incident point based system does mostly increase competitivness and fairness, it often does the opposite as well. In this example, the car overtaking me hits me, and because he hit another car, I receive the maximum penalty of 4x (affects your license safety rating). I'm sure what the solution is to this problem, but you rarely see an innocent party penalized in real life, so I don't think it should be the case in iRacing either. Thoughts?

      Maybe the front half of the car is the driver’s responsibility. So hit detection, similar to how shooter detect headshots etc.
      Then maybe something to do with relative velocity.
      The input telemetry might be needed in situations the need deeper investigation.
      At the very least you shouldn’t get 4x for someone hitting you from behind.
      Also slight touches should not create a penalty. There should be a threshold for a light tap or accidental touch vs being hit from behind on purpose by a person who didn’t even touch the brakes. I’m not programmer but it seems like it wouldn’t be that hard. Give everything else they can simulate accurately.

      @@ukdirtluke486 I see what you mean. A lot of times when people think they are being “turned in on” they are trying to fires a pass on the inside under braking off the racing line. It’s up to the car overtaking to do it safely. I’ve watched a lot of replays where a person claims they cut cut-off or turn in on, when the truth is they were way inside and then cut across the apex to hit the side of the car they were trying to overtake.
      There’s always exceptions and that’s what the protest/review system is for. When it’s a judgement call.
      Even if you get a blue flag your supposed to stay on the racing line and stay at speed. You’re just not supposed to defend. You’re not supposed to slow/ stop or go off line to let them pass. As a courtesy yes of course. But the idea that you have to pull over for them is also silly and often makes things worse.

      So then what’s to stop you from just driving aggressive on later laps to pick up more positions? If it’s questionable it could be reviewed afterwards but it’s a system that does need to be reworked

  • @TheTotallyRealXiJinping

    The reason you got that 4x is because you tipped the black cars back bumper enough to move him. Alone that would of been a 0x but since the other car hit him (pretty hard) it saw it as you having involvement in that collision due to the previous contact.
    All in all be more aware of the cars around you and give up the time or track position if you don’t want to risk it because coding these anomalies in will take a while, especially because the detection system is already best in class so they create the standard vs follow it.

    • @SuperTheast
      @SuperTheast 7 месяцев назад

      The issue is giving the points regardless of fault. I’ve been involved in collisions where I was hit and thrown into a spin that caused me to collide with another car that also had the same issue. It was all caused by one single driver and yet all 5 of us received a penalty. The only one that should have gotten those points was the initial car and yet every single person got them. It’s a flawed system but fixing it is just too difficult to do without somehow implementing thousands of live stewards to watch over every race. The only realistic option would be to have a delayed penalty system so you could have a program review each incident to determine fault in some way. It punishes clean racers just as much as dirty racers currently and it isn’t how any other racing league would consider penalties

    To be fair, if either of those touches had of happenned in isolation it would likely only be a 0x. But it was upgraded to 4x because they were close together. That's what the 0x-->4x line means. It's a good part of the system that helps keep minor incidents from ruining sr.
    Because it's a system of averages, generally safe drivers will increase thier sr over time, generally bad drivers will lose sr over time.

  • @NimCross
    @NimCross Год назад

    We certainly understand how frustrating these incidents can be.
    We understand that every iRacer will receive incident points as the result of being involved in accidents which they did not cause and were unable to avoid, particularly in the lower license levels.
    However, it is impossible for us to accurately determine fault for every incident that happens in every race.
    That is why we employ a “No Fault” penalty system and why we believe it is the best system for our service, given the number of drivers on the service and the number of races being run at any given time.
    It’s also why, given the comparatively high rate of accidents, our safety ratings formulas are very forgiving in the lower levels.
    We believe that anyone who is a safe driver will find it relatively easy to move to 4.0 rating in a short time.
    Over time, safe drivers will be involved in fewer accidents than drivers who are less safe.
    Those who are not safe will have to adjust their driving to advance their license rating.
    If you’d care to read more about the specific philosophies behind the ratings and licensing systems, check the iRacing Sporting Code.

  • @Mufffyy

I got so close to 4.0SR and some BS like this would happen in a string of bad races and I’d get smacked down below 3SR. The penalty system is not logical and I get so aggravated at it, that I don’t touch the game now for months. Getting into races just makes me so anxious that often times I just don’t know if I feel like dealing with it, so I just putz around solo.
