Oh thank goodness! Finally an EDC video where the guy practically carries what he needs depending on the activity he’s doing for the day.
THANK GOD! This guy rules.
What an amazing load out!
I love swapping and changing by mood.
Happy new year! You've got a good channel going. Glad to see you're getting a lot of subscribers. And I always like these EDC videos even though my EDC needs are a lot simpler. My fave addition to my EDC in 2020 was the Spyderco Ladybug Salt with serrated hawkbill. Wicked little knife that I find useful every day for similar reasons you were praising that hawkbill blade on the Victorinox Harvester and Rancher models (gonna get one of those soon, hopefully the Rancher if I can find it -- thanks for the head's up).
You know what, I was visiting with a rancher in my local knife shop the other day that has that exact same knife. He just about convinced me to pick it up.
Love this and interesting to see how you change stuff out and what remains with your various EDCs. Thanks again!
Happy New Years Ben!
Thanks for sharing your EDC items and your thinking on everything.
On one shoulder I have a prepper whispering in my ear. On the other, a minimalist. Those two are usually duking it out for a common sense middle ground ha ha
I hear that!
That is so me lol
Hi Ben, I also use the Leatherman Surge and the Knipex pliers. I carry the 125 pliers and find they fit nicely in the larger elasticated side of the Leatherman pouch opposite the bit extender.
Happy new year Ben! Good to see your EDC. Little surprised your away from work set up didn't include a "CW" of some sort but your otherwise prepared for anything 👍
Happy New Year! I do have a couple actually, though I don’t generally carry on me.
Thanks for sharing. It is cool to see what you carry and your thorough explanations. Happy New Year to you and yours!
Happy New Year to you and yours!
This is good. Honest, used and not expensive edc.
The ES4 is a great tool for hvac. It pairs well with my Rebar 👍
Nice 'show and tell' there, Ben.
It'll be useful to many people in helping sort out just what it is you need to carry; helps me anyway. Thank you, Ben. 🤗😷👋
Absolutely
Happy new year, and nice EDC! My own is a Leatherman Surge, Apple Watch Stainless Steel series 5 gold, iPhone XS Max also in gold, AirPods Pro, iClip Wallet, Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Age fountain pen in Fine, a mask in black, a LED Lenser P3 and a hook on my belt to clip in my car keys and attached Keysmart with my regular keys. I usually don't need a fire source. Oh and also an encrypted metal flash drive on a heavy steel chain around my neck for essential data.
That's a nice setup!
Very cool set up. I also carry the Gerber eab and a 16' Stanley tape measure also the same zebra pen. My multi tool is the supertool 300 and I carry the victorinox executive streamlight microstream and a mechanical pencil and two sizes of sharpie. I also switch between my collection of edc folding knives. Great carry and great video 👍
Thanks.
Awesome stuff, look forward to all your videos. Been dying to see the zippo hand warmer review
Been waiting to get back on the job so that I can give a proper review of them.
Now that was an interesting edc setup. I am surprised though we didn't see any big dedicated folding knife. Lot of people consider their multitool knives to be only a backup. Do you consider Surge plain edge blade to be your main knife? The one you use most of the time?
Depending on what I'm doing it's either a Charge XTi with bit kit and extender, plus flashlight, Bic lighter, chapstick, handkerchief and Victorinox Executive or I replace the Executive and Charge for a Swisschamp, lately it's been the Swisschamp, I've had that knife for 8 years now and it's never left me down.
Happy New Years, Ben. I’ve got a couple of ideas for inexpensive EDC items... For a Utility Knife that takes replaceable blades, the Sheffield 1282 is great. It weighs almost nothing and while the plastic is cheap ($5 tool), it gives you a nice full grip. Another featherweight is the new Victorinox Folding Serrated Paring Knife. This thing weighs nothing, but has a blade that’s almost 4.5 inches! The downside is that the metal bends a bit (like a steak knife, but with a blunt tip). So it’s not for hard use, but it’s perfect for an inexpensive beater or for food. It has a liner lock, comes in different colors and Victorinox says it’s dishwasher safe. I discovered it on the “MeZillch” channel and the Sheffield was a Nutinfancy pick from years ago (he loves lightweight gear).
Happy New Year! I'll look into those suggestions, thanks!
Been meaning to pick up one of those folding paring knives. I got the non-folding version as a freebie with a Spartan a couple years back and I use it more than a lot of my much more expensive kitchen knives, so a portable version would be terrific.
@@Pinki2019 I think you’ll be happy with it... in spite of the name, it’s actually a folding version of what Victorinox calls their “tomato knife.” I have the serrated version, but they also offer plain edge. The only real drawback is that some women may have difficulty with the lock (including a friend of mine who I consider pretty strong)... which is too bad, because they’re otherwise very approachable and versatile. Being totally non-tactical (blunt tip) I’m not even worried about traveling through towns that limit blade lengths. They’re just starting to show up on Amazon for reasonable prices $17-18. I noticed that their fixed blade “fruit knife” is already popular among the edc crowd (there are kydex pocket holsters on EBay). But I think the folding paring knives will be an even bigger hit.
funny seeing so many familiar items. i got the same zippo, (but mine says harley davidson) same pen, victorinox pioneer x in black, and a leatherman wave.
Great carry. I EDC some of the same stuff. need to film one of these soon too. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the in depth vid made me think about my kit. I dropped my victorinox but I need it back now :D
You’re welcome. I had gone a long time without carrying a SAK. Then about 3 years ago I started carrying them again. I love having a clean backup blade.
Nice EDC and Happy new yaer!
Happy new year!
I just bought a wave plus, to replace my rebar. I’m hoping the wave won’t get gumed up with sawdust like my rebar did because i can’t open any of my tools wit out having difficulty. The sawdust makes it really hard to get to the Serrated blade my most used tool on the rebar.
Happy new year my friend! Great EDC
Thank you. Happy New Year to you too!
ThanQ for filming
For a fluid-based lighter I would suggest checking out IMCO lighters, especially model 6700. They use the same fluid, but can hold more of it and is more sophisticated. It's like a Bic lighter but with fluid, as it only requires 1 action to operate, instead of the 2 that Zippo requires. They stopped production a few years ago if I remember correctly, but they are still readily available and there are pretty good quality chinese clones of it as well
You for sure need to get the Ainesworth case to match that leather Leatherman one that would look awesome 👌
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳
Same to you my friend, may the coming year be better than the last!
Happy new year Ben ! Best wishes!
Happy New Year to you as well. I sure hope the coming year is a lot better than 2020!
Hi Ben, wondering what you're carrying now after 2 years, i used to carry allot myself including my surge, but recently i went very minimalistic by only carrying my trayvax wallet, victorinox farmer X, rovyvon A8 generation 4 (recently bought its small and compact and gives allot of light) and a normal BIC lighter
Very stable options there, makes sense.
Rotring (ex German company) means Rot-red ring-ring. Thats why they have the red ring ;)
Regards and a happy new year from Germany
You know, I actually remembered the proper name as soon as I finished this video. Great timing, right?
@@txtoolcrib Thats life ;)
Happy new years!
Happy new year!
You influenced me to switch from my bi fold wallet to a single wallet.
You also sold me the victorinox compact. Congratulations, if you could get affiliate links I would click it.
Hey Ben i enjoyed watching your video on edc happy new year🎉🎊
Happy new year!
Pens . I just bought skilcaft B2 pen it's 3-1 black blue ink with a mechanical pencil. I know your a millwright which y'all are hard on your stuff . I'm a machinist I love your channel .
Love the videos happy New Years 🎉🎊
Thank you, Happy New Year!
Finally! Lol! Happy new year bro! Great EDC ! I too have different EDC’s for different situations!
Happy New Year to you too my friend.
Nice set up and thank you for the video.
Thanks, and thanks for watching.
"Cuz I like having toothpicks with me" Probably the best reasoning you'll hear for anything "EDC" everyone is so obsessed with justifying carrying something because of some specific circumstance that may or may not ever happen to them. Refreshing to hear something practical with a good honest reasoning, not because you could potentially use it to field suture some wounds on an endangered blue breasted booby. Good videos, keep it going!
Happy New Year from Switzerland
Happy New Year.
Running the risk of being a little late: You might want to look into zippo butane inserts for your work EDC. I've had a generic torch insert in my EDC since 2017 and it never fails me. Now even Zippo sell them, although they're a little expensive for my taste.
I don´t know about the other ones, but I bought the zippo insert and i regret. Just like many others according to the reviews on Amazon, mine stopped working correctly after a few days, i tried different brands of gas, vented the system, but in vain.
Hi Ben, because I work (worked) as gide for tourists here in Tuscany, and because of the strict Italian laws, finally I chose a Swisschamp, is more appropriate for me. I prefer to never change my edc and it is quite versatile in many different situations, at work, in vacations, at home for small projects and reparations.
Also I like to have some extra stuff for emergency situations when I'm far from home in my bag, and I have a long list of stuff I have on it, first aid kit and some emergency food included (I have to be able to help my clients if needed).
May I suggest to add a cloth handkerchief (I hope the word is correct) or a bandana? I found it very useful in many occasions and I think it could be god for everyone to have it in the pocket.
Thanks!.
Your English is more than fine, and yes you got the word right. That is a good suggestion. The Swiss Champ is a very capable multi tool. Sounds like it suits your needs perfectly.
We need an updated version!
Nice gear and good to hear your thoughts on them
Thanks 👍
cool man, and happy new year! :)
Happy New Year!
The Warrior mini is a great light, but the light in this video is a Baton Pro lol... Keep up the videos, i appreciate your hard work, and love this content
Regarding the pen. Zebra also makes a Zebra Slide or Zebra SL-F1. it is a very small pen that can extend to almost full length. you can try it out.
I carry the 150mm Pliers Wrench pretty much every day and have been for 2+ years now. They’re Incredibly useful.
How do you carry yours?
@@txtoolcrib In a Recycled Firefighter pocket organizer in the side pockets of my Carhartt pants. I’d honestly prefer to wear it on my belt but I’m an engineer and work in an office (though I spend a lot of time troubleshooting and working on machine tools) so I have to adhere to a dress code.
That is a problem that doesn’t get talked about enough when talking about EDC.
@@txtoolcrib Luckily they’re not strict about it. I have multiple visible tattoos and don’t have to wear a tie. Carhartt pants, a polo, and steel toe boots is pretty much our “uniform”. One of the benefits of working an a manufacturing plant I suppose.
I have been watching a lot of EDC videos and each time would wonder about your EDC and her we are! Another great video. Where are you getting your custom made Victorinox and what’s in it?
Fit To Survive is building it for me. In fact, we are just waiting on the custom titanium scales to come in.
My knife, flashlight, ink pen and scissors are all in one package: my Signature Lite. It weighs 0.8 oz.
That’s the beauty of Victorino knives. Unfortunately I require a flashlight and knife to be a little bit more robust than what that model offers.
That flashlight is shit I’ve got a lumintop frog bright and small
Nice edc! I’d sure like to know how all you RUclips guys keep your stuff so nice. I carry a wave+, olight s2r baton 2, zippo, key bar and a few other things for work and every day life and they are very beat up.
Well my wallet is new. My Surge has wear marks, though I just changed the sheath out. Both flashlights are pretty new as well. Everything else does have wear on it.
I hate to say it Ben, but you showed the Baton Pro when you were talking about the Warrior Mini haha. Happy New Year Ben! Also, it looks like we've got some new Leatherman tools in the pipeline this year!
Lol, son of a gun, I sure did. Nice catch. I had them side by side on the desk and didn't pay attention. Should have pulled my titanium Warrior Mini out of my pocket instead. Well, what can ya do?
What have you heard new from Leatherman?
@@txtoolcrib On their site, under "Works With" for some of the accessories, there are listed three new names: Curl, Bolster, and Bond. Using the black leather box sheath pages, we can tell they are all 4" frame tools. Looking at the bit kit and extender pages, it appears the Curl will have a bit driver, but not the other two. I guess the others would have standard Philips drivers, though they aren't listed under the Removable Bit Driver page, so I don't know what's up with that. I believe the trademark information has some rudimentary info about their toolsets too. Weirdly enough, none of them show up on the page for the replaceable cutters, but I have a hard time believing they'd make anything new in the 4" frame size without replaceable cutters, so I guess they just haven't updated that one or something. I took a peek around their media repository site, as that's how I was the first to leak the ST300M, but nothing to be found yet.
Hey Ben, love your content! How have you found the magnetic tail switch on the warrior mini with magnetic dust as you mentioned in your review, I got one as an early Christmas present and I absolutely love it but the magnetic dust is building up. No issues yet but it is a little concerning sometime!
Happy new year mate!
I haven’t yet. The one I am actually worried about is the M2R though. We are heading out in about a week for a rather long job. It will be put through it’s paces then.
Yeah I’m interested to see how it goes, I work with metal like you so it’s building up pretty quickly. Might have to work out how to strip it down so I can clean it once a month or so.
Also off topic but after seeing your vids I upgraded from a wave to a surge for my work edc and sometimes everyday edc. Absolutely love it and wouldn’t go without it now.
Review a sheath from Tale of Knives. I just bought the big boy, it holds a surge, flashlight, pen, and key retainer.
I love having a smart watch pared with my phone to
Happy New Year 🎆 What do you do for work?
I’m a millwright.
Have you looked at Parker or Waterman for Pens?
You should try the big idea design pen !! Great design, weight, functionality. Overall great pen!
I’ll check them out. I like Big Idea Design stuff.
@@txtoolcrib btw happy new year !
You too!
As always, an awesome and informative video!
Thanks for shouting out the Wicekleather’s Etsy, I might actually get some stuff from her, especially as she’s from my country.
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱, been loving your content for quite a while, sir!
BTW, what’s your opinion on the Leatherman OHT?
It’s been my EDC multitool for the last six months (replaced the Surge that I keep in my car or grab bag now) and for my needs, turns out it’s the perfect tool. Have you had any experience with it?
They make very good products. I like idea of the OHT, I just think they could have offered a bit better tool set with it. I would much rather have seen a full length blade for one. I think it is trying to do too much with the accessory tools. Overall though, it is still a good multi tool.
Very nice EDC gear!
Thank you sir!
An actual common sense EDC. You definitely upgraded your wallet. I went to a slim wallet about 6 months ago. Funny what you find you don't need to carry. Also, scary how similar your "away from work EDC" is to mine. Not sure if that means I have hit the sweet spot...or you missed it. 😉😂
what brand wallet is that please?
I hate carrying a phone in a pocket, at least a smartphone; one of the reasons I lament the demise of the clam phone. And it's interesting that some people who would criticize pocket carrying a multitool as too bulky or heavy don't think twice about carrying a smartphone in their pocket. At work I carry my surge, and a lot of other stuff, in a leg bag; it goes in my pocket when I'm not at work.
Nice edc! Pretty much the same as me, just the Apple watch replaced with a Casio as Apple watches don't work with Android devices, a bit bigger wallet, and a fountain pen instead of a normal ballpoint one
What SAK do you like?
@@txtoolcrib I EDC-d the electrician first when I was able to get it in Romania, then the normal pioneer after it broke for a long time since they were the only ones available in Hungary for some time, after that the Super Tinker, and now the Outrider due to having a need for a bigger knife now for heavier wire cutting and for some harder to cut fabrics while doing repair on my backpack/clothes
Happy new year sir ,, maybe in 2021 we might all see your face 😜😜😜
Happy New Year! I don’t know, I wouldn’t want your screen to crack. I have a couple of videos that I show my face. One is the overview of my 2019 RAM, the other was recent on my Knaack toolbox.
I recently bought a RAE Gear bit kit holster for my Leatherman bit kit.
How do you like it?
@@txtoolcrib It does a good job of keeping the bits contained and accessible. It can be a little uncomfortable if you don't take it off at the end of the day. It comes off your belt easily, but it won't come off accidentally.
If carrying the bits is worthwhile to you, I would definitely recommend it as a good way to do that.
Even if you just throw it in your toolbox, there's little chance of the sleeves falling out.
I don't know how well it works for the Blast/Rebar/Super Tool sleeve though. That extension/adapter might fall out.
What are your thoughts on the Fix It Sticks? The Ratcheting T-Way, T-Way, and Replaceable Version with the bit holder.
I actually hadn’t seen them before, had to go look them up. They look pretty promising, though a bit on the expensive side for sure.
@@txtoolcrib Indeed. So many tools, so little time and funds. For a portable driver I'm partial to the Victorinox ratchet set, but I haven't used it extensively. Your videos are very interesting; keep up the good work and keep putting those tools to the test!
I'm guessing that you'll replace that leatherman bit extender with the new ratchet bit extender.
I haven’t decided yet. I have found that it didn’t last very long carrying it in the side elastic holster.
Happy New year 🙂
Happy New Year to you as well.
Another knock-out, thanks Ben....
Absolutely, thank you for watching.
Question. What can the Knipex Wrench do, (except not scratching a bolt while tightening) that the Knipex Cobra can't do? I ask, because I don't see the point, of carring the wrench for edc, instead of the more versatile Cobra.
Well I think you hit the nail on the head. The non marring feature is exceptionally useful though for copper and plastic fittings.
Where’d you get the t shank package opener for the surge? Good video btw
I modified it from a Leatherman Rev. ruclips.net/video/1LcM058vPjk/видео.html
Ben be very careful with that Olight warrior mini, that one in particular has had some crazy issues and burns through your pocket if accidentally turned on. I guess you don't need the zippo lol.
Really? Good thing I bought the i3t
I have been hearing, I heard rumor that there is a recall on them as well.
@@txtoolcrib Yeah it was yesterday or somthing that one of the reps posted a thing saying that if you wanted to return it you could for a full refund with shipping covered once they get it set up or that you could keep it if you wanted too. that lockout mode is really important for the light.
That victorinox alox (great tool btw) can be replaced by a swiss card
Фонарик можно сделать маленьким. В чехле от Leatherman.
If you put a fisher space pen refill in that zebra pen you’ll be surprised how unstoppable that combination is.
Happy new year, who did you go to for a custom SAK?
A new channel here on RUclips and a fellow Texan, Fit To Survive.
@@txtoolcrib thanks for the reply, I will check them out.
I think is about time to make a EDC upgrade, has been too much time since this one
If only tolar union would keep there company running just fine then just maybe you wouldn't need the wrench. Great EDC!
Happy new year Ben! Have you considered using reddit at all? You could post your edc and reviews and new things there, I love the awesome content keep it up dude
I am going to make an effort this year to get onto most of the social media platforms, though I'm sure I will have a bit of a learning curve to contend with.
@@txtoolcrib cool man, if you end up joining reddit and need any help just PM me on there my reddit username is u/can-I-be-silent
@Edgar Gomez sir do you use reddit? I have used reddit for a year and a half and have never even had an unpleasant exchange
Victorinox Spirit X + Victorinox Explorer + Knipex Cobra 150 = BEST possible edc. (Superb versatility-Tremendous utility)
Good combo for sure.
What do you carry when you are wearing basketball shorts or sweatpants?
I don’t wear shorts. The only time I’m in sweats is at home. So though that is a consideration for most people, it isn’t for me.
Would you consider reviewing one of the large, locking Swiss Army knives (like the Soldier 08, trekker or Hercules)?
I have strongly considered picking some of them up. Let me get some funds built up and I will try to add some.
@@txtoolcrib Thanks for the reply. By the way, your content is great, far better than the competition. Would you also be able to recommend the best multi-tool for camping? Is it the Leatherman Signal, or something else?
Outrider is not bad, and there was red one with Bosch markings, i have bought one for cca 24€! Talking about cheap! 👌
It’s all personal preference, but I would go with a Wave or one of the Swisstool Spirit models personally.
A while back, I noticed the kybex 125 is more expensive than 130 in Amazon....But now I saw 125 cheaper than 150😅😄
Supply and demand I suppose.
Whats for tool bags You using at the Job Site?
The way we work, we don’t often need bags. We are usually right on top of what we are doing, so everything is done out of mobile Knaack boxes. I have 3M bags though. I just haven’t had much of a need for a tool bag.
I'd like to know what belt you have. Good lord man. You are damn near bat man.
I've never been able to wrap my head around smart watches. I'd smash the screen outta one by lunch time.
На ключах не хватает канистры с бензином Zippo.
Knipex Pliers Wrenches are next to irreplaceable.
That’s hard to argue with.
I had a Swiss army knife with tweezers and toothpick, can't remember what model.. only two features l used, everything was useless.
I find Victorinox knives to be quite useful myself.
fatmax is the best tape imo
Isn't that a Baton Pro on the video?
Yeah, grabbed the wrong one off the table. My bad.
The cool thing on EDC forums these days is to carry those XS Knipex pliers with a Swiss army knife, rather than a Leatherman. I may have been memed into ordering a pair...
Lol, I'm sure they are very handy. They are a little too small for my hands, but I like them. I wonder if they are going to do the same thing with the pliers wrench.
Looks like another thing has been added to my buylist, shame that they are hard to get in Hungary
The fact that you carry knipex pliers wrenches is in a way an admission that the leatherman multitool pliers are inadequate. Gave up on those knucklebusters years ago.
To each their own, but I disagree. Leatherman pliers are quite convenient for a multitude of different tasks.
@@txtoolcrib The leatherman is a jack of all trades, and a master of none. The compromise for putting too many tool into such a small package is that none of them excell at anything.
that torch is the baton pro not the warrior mini
Yes, I acknowledged my mistake many times over. It happens.
