- I bought a pith helmet for a children's video project and when the box arrived so promptly I thought I would make a box opening video and review the hat.

With your chrome dome, you need a pith helmet. Sun damage not a lauging matter. Safety and style need not clash.

They are fantastic. Just so much cooler than a floppy hat. I were one on a summer walking holiday to the Alps and it was brilliant. I wear mine all the time in my garden on sunny days. You can soak the top of them is water to get cooling by evaporation. Just perfect for those hot and humid summer days.

Not really. I bought it as a prop.

I bought two from village hats. They are massive on my head. I literally look like Darth Vader in the film Spaceballs. I must have a small head, and that's bad for a 57-year-old man. The military one has a beautiful dark green lining inside, it really gives one a Boar War feeling.

So my head size is 57cm and i usally wear 58cm hats ....what size should i go with the pith helmet in village hats? Large 58-61 or medium 55-57?

I bought one and it is broken.... But I have to ask, how is it in the rain? will rainy weather mess the hat up? And sir, Please pull it down in the front, lol
I use it as a prop only.
@@RichardVobes Ah ok... I need it for every day use, I collect hats and I wear each and every one of them, yes I wear all 5 of them all the time. Usually a different one each week, :)
What's the liner made of
I am not sure, but it it is good quality.
Oddly enough, pith a kind of inner tree bark similar to cork.

So it is a cork hat, not a pith helmet... it is done in the style of a pith helmet. Real pith helmets are actually made of pith... it is a very nice looking sun hat!
"Pith" (not actually real pith, but rather a very low-density wood) is very brittle and crushes easily, so was widely replaced by pressed cork some 100 years ago.

Buyer beware. I bought these from VHC. They are Vietnamese and not true pith helmet. A real pith helmet, you get wet and then the evaporation, keeps you cool. These say, don’t get wet. Reason: they fall apart
Pith Helmets stopped being made of actual shola pith a very long time ago. Pressed cork became the norm over 100 years ago, and VHC helmets are no different. The reason you shouldn't soak them is because they are sadly not made with the best quality materials or methods. I suspect a couple of good soakings would cause much of the glue that holds the hat together to come undone.
