"Playing for Change" did a PHENOMENAL treatment of the Doobie Brothers "Listen to the Music", featuring Tom Johnston (the song's composer) and two others of the original band. Oh, and the women from Jamaica in this video, they were singing in front of Bob Marley's childhood home.
Great collaboration of international artists. Loved seeing Larkin Poe (sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell) involved with this, they really rock. R.I.P. Robbie
Take a look at there version of "When The Levee Breaks" very good also includes a part from John Paul Jones from Led Zep who had the original hit with it, but are not the first ones to play it. It being recorded in 1929.
I listened to Playing for change 14 years ago on his first one Stand by me., I cannot believe it has been so long ago and how much things have changed., I have listened to it many times as I loved the concept and the singers., Sadly the black guy that started off Stand by me in So., Calif., died shortly after it was released., I am glad you discovered it.,
Thanks,. Ashiena! I LOVE this organization.. so many great songs and collaborations.. some of my favorites are Marvin Gaye's "What's going on".. and "Wonderful World"... many famous musicians have participated and been very generous to allow the world-wild music to be featured... appreciate your listen & reaction!
Playing for Change has a version of "Guantanamera" played and sung entirely by Cubans in multiple locations. Same impact as your reaction video - beautiful and heartwarming.

Great reaction to a great song by an organisation that deserves a lot more attention for mission to spread peace through music. PFC has been putting out music for over 15 years & as outstanding compositions of some of the best songs around. I started with 'Stand by Me' which was one of their first pieces to get real attention but some of their best are "Teach Your Children' & IMO one of their very best is 'When the Levee Breaks'. Please react to more so they can get more attention & support so they can continue in their mission of making the world a better place.
interesting that you hated the ending lol i thought the fade off was quite nice! anyway i hope you react to more from playing for change, they have some truly amazing covers. stand by me (from 15 years ago) was their first video and one of my personal favorites. someone in the comments recommended all along the watchtower and that one’s great as well!
Cute little song, good artists ( at least the ones I know like Larkin Poe ). It doesn't have to be the superstar cometogether peace and harmony songs from the 80's to make a difference. Thx Ashlena for putting a smile on my face :)
The guitarist in the blue shirt on the bench is the late, lamented Robbie Robertson, a founding member of The Band (and of the the top 100 guitarists of all time).
Hey Ashlena, I saw this when it first came out, not because I'm a big fan of Robbie or The Band, but because Larkin Poe are contributors to this song! Plus, 2 Hawaii based musicians participated! Love and Aloha!
Do you know how long it is taking for people to react to this series? Good job. Many of the regular channels haven't even discovered just how amazing these re-make songs are. It may be the finest music I have ever heard.
Can you please consider reacting to kim petras's albums. She's got the perfect halloween album "Turn off the light" (vol.2) and 2 other amazing albums full of bops "Feed the beast" , "Problematique".
I probably won’t do a full album reaction, but I’m more than happy to choose one song from the album if you wanna pick one. Full album reactions take so long and I have a lot to do on my list
Eh, that song should not be copied. Folks trying to make a name for themselves hoping their audience dont realize it is not original. Ps. I dont recognize a single band you are reviewing.
@@ashlenamusic i’m 70’s, 80’s,90’s,2000’s punk and ska, college radio and later years beatles. AC/DC and led zep the most. Heres some college stuff.. courtney barnett- pedestrian at best and satellite by courtney marie andrews Heres a ska tune. Everyones an asshole by reel big fish. 🤘🤘🤘
Cool! And you do realize they aren’t copying the song. They definitely got the rights to use this as the proceeds go to developing music classes across the world. What kind of 90s/2000’s punk?
Um...that's Robbie Robertson playing in this. He WROTE IT. His own son produced this video. A guy that you may have heard of, named Ringo Starr, is playing drums. You might want to do just the modicum of research before you trash something like this masterpiece.
Thie ending is fine with me. Nice smile from the composer, Robbie.
Robbie Robertson, Red Road Ensemble. A fantastic collaboration of indigenous singers and songs. You will NOT regret checking it out.

I think it ended perfectly ❤
Really glad Richard suggested a Playing For Change production. Been listening to these productions for years. Great reaction Ashlena, peace.
Thanks! Me too!
Never heard this song with so many international artist. I just know this song from The Band and Staple singers. Loved it.
It left with the next step pending. All of the verses posed choices of vices, with biblical overtones. At the crossroads, WE each must choose
All along the watch tower. Is amazing. Peace ✌️

What a beautiful concept... there is still hope for mankind ❤
This is was an American Treasure but now its a World treasure this is a AMAZING / GREAT Collaboration that belongs to the world.
Many of us see it as a Canadian Treasure given that it was written by Canadian one of four Band members out of five who were Canadian.
Great reaction! You should check more from Playing for Change, their covers are awesome! Cheers from Argentina!

Stand by me - playing for change is awesome too! Great ending aswell

You'll probably like the live version with "The Band" and "The Staple Singers" as the ending is more appropriate. . . . .

the ending was a silent tribute to Robbie Robertson - who passed away recently.
Considered the best hippie song of all time. Enjoy! 😎
The original ends abruptly. You need to hear it as well. Dean.
the ending is the only one that originally sang the song

1st vocalist was a turn off for me and I almost quit watching. Glad I didn't, as it got really good after that.
Gotta give it a chance!
Way to butcher a classic
It's not about the song it's about why they're doing the song.
