When The Levee Breaks feat. John Paul Jones | Playing For Change | Song Around The World
• When The Levee Breaks ...
“When The Levee Breaks” is a powerful, thought-provoking and emotionally-charged classic by Led Zeppelin, from their Led Zeppelin IV album. The song is a rework of the 1929 original release by Kansas Joe Mccoy and Memphis Minnie about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927; the most destructive river flooding in U.S. history.
“It seems that little has changed since 1927, or even 2005 with Katrina. It’s still a really powerful track, both musically and lyrically.”- John Paul Jones
Legendary multi-instrumentalist, John Paul Jones, is accompanied by Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and over 20 musicians and dancers from seven different countries, in this Song Around The World version featured in Peace Through Music: A Global Event for the Environment.
Feel the impact of these compelling lyrics and let the music move your spirit!

That old dude playing the bass should form a couple of bands or something.. He's great! :D
😂
😂😂😂👏👏
Say, older dude. Tends to last longer that way for him. ( no one wants to be "OLD" ) hahaha
He looks just like the guy who parked my car the other day!
that old dude is Led Zepplin.
Playing For Change is a rabbit hole of great music and artists, never stop PFC
JPJ, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and all of those other amazing artists...it really doesn't get any better than this
JPJ is an absolute beast of musical talent. I can't think of anyone else who could have put something like this together and done it so amazingly well. The man is a true force of nature, and a treasure to us all. God bless you, sir.
WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE?! This is the top of the top. It doesn't get better. Playing for change is the best. Period.
John Paul Jones playing Bass❤ Aka Led Zeppelin ❤
So lovely to see you "kids" appreciate this song. I'm 68 years old and was 15 when I first heard it after bringing Zeppelin's album home from the record store (which I still have). Most people don't understand that this cover by John Paul Jones and Company, and the accompanying video, is to bring attention to Climate Change and how quickly a single weather event can alter our homes and lives. That was the point of the original song: one day the Sun is shining and life is wonderful; then nature comes along and has the final say in so many people's fates. All they can do is sit down and cry. They know their lives will never be the same. Now, we witness these occurrences on an unimaginable scale almost daily. Metaphorically speaking, the levees are breaking worldwide, and it may be too late to stop these catastrophes. Trust me, Mother Nature will cry no tears for us...
The New Zealand lady is awesome. Yeah goosebumps!!
this song is beyond great especially the harmonica playing , drums & the New Zealand gal
When that chick@ 9:30 jumped in, whoa! Instant goose bumps.
Robert plant sung and played the harmonica on the original
i saw this some time ago, man they did an awesome job with this cover guys, great job, to all the artist who jammed out
When the Levee Breaks is a MASTERPIECE
I'm a big lover of Zeppelin, this is a phenomenal cover. Great reaction as always God Bless ✌️

REALLY like that one, thanks for sharing with us !
Hey guys!!! You made me so happy tonight!! Thanks. This is "Playing for change". Is an ONG. You can tell that in just one song, you can see many different places of the world. Please keep on with this. There are songs of many artist. Bob Marley, John Lennon, All Green, and more. This is an amazing Journey. Greettings from Argentina
How about that Derek Trucks guy … that would be Susan’s husband and probably the best slide guy in the business. He was playing with Eric Clapton on stage at age 12 for gods sake!!
This was an amazing job by all of these talented artists. I can't stop listening to them. Great job 👏. Hello from Pa USA 🇺🇸
Music units it has no boundaries if you get it
equally as good - Playing for change: The Weight
Top 3 Rock Bassist for me all time, his work speaks for itself. JPJ forever! 🎸
AMAZING rendition!! 😮😮❤❤
And great, great message, Suzie!! ☮️☮️☮️
Susie, the natural look fits you wonderfully. You look great without the multi colored hair and lipstick.
Susie is gorgeous and a wonderful being!
Seeing JPJ still active is so GOOD! He has so much to offer the music world!!! One of the BEST EVER!!
Stephen Perkins has been the percussionist for Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros. Does an outstanding job here. Like someone said, all of the Playing for Change videos are great! This one is my personal favorite.
Great version, thanks for the review. Just think only four dudes did that tune in 1970, just as Intense!
Just fxxking wonderful
Epic. Awesome. Thanks to Led Zep--and all these great musicians.
That "old dude" is John Paul Jones from the best band in history, Led Zeppelin.
The dude in the tower playing Guitar is Robbie Robertson's(founder of the band) son and founder of playing for change watch Playing for change Bieko!!!!!!!!
DAYYYYMN…….!!!❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Hell YEA! Beautiful
Fantastic! What a tribute! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Big Head Todd (Todd Park Mohr) does a great solo version of When the Levee Breaks.
The best thing about all the playing for change Videos is the music master craftsman from around the world playing
SO POWERFUL & SO MOVING!! Love the original: STILL - but, this is SO GROUNDING!! LOVE seeing all the varied artists just GIVING IT THEIR ALL!! Love your channel!! HUGS!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
That old dude is John Paul jones from LED ZEPPELIN
Thanks, Wolfies.. Guess you knew this song already (by Led Zep)? appreciate your reaction... hope you keep checking out more by "Playing for Change".. they are an amazing organization...
Love your natural color my Dear! 👍
No fellows, it´s a Cover. original from 1927.🎸☮
The song is not Led Zeppelin's but this is how Zeppelin interpreted it and made it a classic. The band's music will live on being rerecorded and reinterpreted. It is music that will never die. One reinterpretation worth hearing is Ofra Haza's version of Kashmir. Sadly this voice has gone way too early.
1st time you have shown me something new
Playing for Change is an organisation that needs more attention from reactors to expose their mission of bring peace to the World through music. They do so my funding music schools in underdeveloped countries & 'Turnaround' projects in America. Please react to more of their stuff, my suggestions is 'Stand by Me' that was one of their first to be noticed projects & 'Teach Your Children' with an amazing lead vocalist Tula. If you go down the Playing for Change rabbit hole you will be in for a world of joy & delight.
JPJ was the other half of LZ gorgeous melodic structure and half the rhythm sec, as well. He was who Paige approached to start LZ.
It's amazing how music brings the world & people together, unlike governments who keep creating war❣ Peace on Earth🕊🌻
Come on guys the bass player is zeppelins bass player and multi instrumentalist. Now go now and so Led Zeppelin’s version of the song. Go now do it. Lmao no joke you have to
Ok bye now
Wonderful!
Please do Playing for Change's "The Weight" by & with Robbie Robinson of The Band.
So worth the listen.
All playing for change are great.
make a mountain man lleave his happy home. goin' down goin' down now. oww ooh. cryining won't help you. praying do you good.
Try "the weight" playing for change, you won't be disappointed
You should listen to the Led Zeppelin version of this. It's great.
So….have you heard the Led Zeppelin track from Led Zeppelin IV?
JPJ looks/performs better than anyone-don’t care whatcha say!!
The studio version kicks this in the dirt.
I disagree.
Cool✌️
Listen to Led Zeppelin version
And then you’ll realize how absolutely awful this version is
Why would anybody attempt this?
And don’t they realize how bad they sound ??
Mihirangi sounding like someone kicking a cat , JPJ never played worse. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi showing what real amateurs they are . All those other multi talented musicians and vocalists really dropped the ball. Or maybe it's just you.....
