awwww amazing days. it’s funny as you would go to clapham, and cab fronts on the VEPS/CIGS/BIGS were always quite clean..but you would always identify a TC or a REP from afar as their cab fronts were so so mucky!!! it strange as i remember back at the time assuming it was down to the units being coupled to a 33 and the acrid diesel smoke was what caused this as this as the TC were coupled up to a 33 constantly week after week. and and also i guess BR didn’t really care now for these units in particular as they were steadily being withdrawn for the 442s..but this observation is also drawn to the REPS as these as we all
know were EMUs and of course were never coupled up
to a 33 and yet they had really black mucky cab fronts, and in similar state to the TC stock!! Again i’m guessing they just were never cleaned by BR staff due to
these also in the process of being withdrawn ..it’s so sad to see though..all those years back in their heyday, being looked after and carrying out their running duties..looking nice and fresh..and then we got to
the late 80s..and the sad decline began.

Why though ? Why were electric locos pushing & pulling electrical multiple units on electrified lines ?
