It's hard not to be paranoid with old truck "Leak of the Week". Lord knows I know I guess it's fun - when I was young it was, now being an old dog, depends on the day and my mood. Looking good though - keep 'er going. You'll have not only something that you love, but will certainly go up in value. They're getting to be like the old Broncos now.
Both the transmission and the pump took Type F fluid originally. But it won’t damage either one if you put another type of fluid in. You can get type f for cheap on rock auto. If you put the wrong fluid in the pump it will still eventually start to make noise but it will not damage it. They make noise because people put the wrong fluid in when it leaks out. You can get $2 cans of good brake cleaner on rock auto too, and they sell the good 25 ft rolls of hard brake line + fittings if you need any. I don’t know if you use it but I get just about everything for my truck of off LMCTruck and rockauto. Rockauto will have good name brand stuff for cheaper and LMC will have any weird parts you can’t find there.
Usually the steering boxes and pressure lines will develop slow leaks from age and that’s probably where your leak is coming from. The rebuild kits on rockauto are cheap for the steering box and the lines are pretty cheap too if that ends up being the problem. There are a bunch of videos on how to rebuild them but you need to make a special tool which can be made with a grinder and a 1 3/4 inside diameter exhaust pipe. It’s one of those tools that uses the four prongs for axle bearings retainer nuts if you’ve ever done one of those.
Awesome. Nice job. You seem to know what you are doing unlike me. lol I changed out my PS Pump as well and it took me forever to get the pully off. I have a 78 Ford F100 as well. Now though, it won't crank. I have a new battery, starter solenoid, starter is good but it won't crank. I cleaned out the carb as well but that is the extent of my knowledge. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Did you figure out what the leak was at the end of the video?..I recently replaced the power steering pump on my 78 and I am experiencing a similar leak

Thanks man It's a sweet rig for sure! More to come soon!
@lock_to_lock Imma need to swing by and check it out when I get back stateside.
another tip is when you have tranny pan off on a flat surface like a vise is to flatten bolt holes on pan so you do not get any leaks

nice truck !!!!!!!!
Nice truck man
Thanks 👍
May I suggest you spray over a trash can when you use the brake clean. Also you need a metal driveway pan to protect your concrete 😮
Yes you may, but I'll probably continue spraying it wherever I need it haha. Cheers!
nice
work
how i used to do it was pull the pulley so i can leave bracket on and replace pump when your getting paid flat rate time is money
Your truck needs to be running and trans temp needs to be at operating temperature. It needs to be in park or neutral so set emergency brake.

Could possibly be an issue with the ignition cylinder in the dash? Or maybe a bad ground somewhere. Good luck with your project, thanks for watching!
Great video! That thing just won’t come off for us. Does the bigger bolt come off too or is it permanently set there?
The big nut on the tensioner? Yes I believe that needs to come off as well. Thanks for watching!
Yes. Just tried it today, and you’re right. It does come off. Thanks for the advice.
Let’s gooooo ❤
Nice truck did you notice your gas gauge isn't working
Yeah, unfortunately I couldn’t make the bronco sender work with the F100 fuel tank.

I ended up changing the oil pan gasket and rear main seal and no more leaks. There’s a video on my channel of that process. Thanks for watching!
WM also has type f
I thought the 78 Fords had round headlights and the 79 Fords had the rectangular headlights?
I think you're correct, but the title on this one says '78!
F100 Ranger
77 was last year for round lights. 78 f series and bronco switched to square I believe.
@lesstech74 round lights were used on 1978 F-Series trucks in the Custom trim level. The Ranger trim level used rectangular headlights.
Does this have a 351M?
400M
For sale?
No sir
