Jake, I really appreciate the care and time you took in repairing my Gameboy! it works perfectly now!
Woa, I found my very old GBA SP literally yesterday and it had the exact same issue. What a coincidence this popped up on my feed. Gonna give this a shot this looks like a fun mod to try 🤗
Love your channel! Check out my main channel if you want to go down the modding rabbit hole 😅
Rosin is an acid gel that helps remove oxidation on whatever your soldering. Since you want to connect metal to metal you need to remove the oxidation layer, so using a little flux/rosin helps to remove that oxidation.
for the holes on the usb c board you could run a wire through the two holes then fill with solder to lock the board in place
Cool little mod. I'd never go for the $26 version, but it is nice to convert this to USB C!
Friendly word of caution, your very lucky you didn't tear pads / traces. Hot air is far better for this job. If you dont have hot air and dont want to buy one, wick the data / power lines clean of solder first then do the anchor ports. In your case, luckily, they already were... I fear you'd have pulled pads if not.
I am aware. That’s why I put the warning in the video immediately following
Did this mod along with a few other mods over the weekend. Love it!
I love how easy the usb c upgrade is! Might actually buy an sp just to do that mod (I am a lunatic)
Hey that's mine!!
To clean the burnt flux, use clean flux. You forego the whole alcohol evaporating thing. 🙂
for the USB c mod I would have looked for either wire to make new posts to go through the board or small pieces of metal(no stainless steel or nickel as they don't bond well with solder)
Rosin is a specific type of tree sap. There is nothing better for soldering
I'm trying to connect the via like in this video but then I realized my board is for the ags 101. Do you know which via should I use for the 101 board?
Is there a way to iclude bluetooth to the gba sp?😊
Rookie question: So if I have continuity only then should I solder when charger does not work?
What brand/style of wire do you use?
To avoid ripping pads it is best to loosen the 2 anchor points with a solder sucker then use a solder ball or even better more melt solder to remove the charge port from the pads. Can also use a hot air station but not everyone has that. Fixing ripped pads is a bit of a pain so better to avoid.
Hot air is by far the safest way to do this, unless you wick those data / power legs clean first then do the anchors. Dude is straight up lucky he didn't rip pads / traces doing it the way he did.
@JakeSimmons, how you like your wireless soldering iron?
Haha it’s not wireless. I can just unplug it from the iron
OH MY GOD IT'S A _Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition_ but where's mareeo?
Tus intenciones de compartir son muy buenas pero es un poco estresante ver como trabajas y a la hora de limpiar también igualmente muchas gracias!
👏🏻
I was just thinking about fixing my sp that had the same problem.
Which flux are you using 🤔
👏 👏 👏

To fill the holes put kapton tape on the other side, fill with solder then hold the soldering iron while the solder dribbles down to fully fill the hole.
