Thank you for this video, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for to help upgrade my SP. Out of curiosity, around what temp did you have your heat gun set at? I planning on using one and don't want to accidentally overheat any components when removing the charge port.

Any recommendations for headphones without DAC to use with this mod?

Does this mod still use the internal shut off when fully charged or do you have to unplug when fully charged

Just installed this mod, and the charging works great. However my SP no longer produces audio, with or without headphones. I tried bending the pins on the speaker which was suggested elsewhere, and tried a brand new speaker also. Anyone know what might be the issue?

Make sure that none of the surrounding components on the board are missing/bridged/damaged
I would suggest taking a photo of the disassembled GBA at the beginning of the video (or find a photo) and comparing it to your GBA to see if there's anything missing. Good luck!!

Have you bridged the audio mute pad that attaches to the usb c? It is the second pad on the left side.

    • @disqo2254
      @disqo2254 8 месяцев назад +2

@@glen3925 that could've been it. I cleaned up the soldering and the audio works now thru the speaker. However I have no luck getting my headphones to produce audio through a USB-c dongle. Is there somewhere I can see which pad corresponds to which function?

@@disqo2254 You might have already found a solution for the headphones by now but just in case, others had the same issue and the reason was this "The USB-C earphone or USB-C adapter to Jack 3.5mm must be without any DAC inside, just analog device, otherwise it won't work.". So it might just be the case of finding another adapter

@@sean5098 hmm interesting, thanks for the reply. i did get the device audio back, but just gave up on getting headphones to work. maybe i'll try a different dongle, thank you!

could i just use a solder wick to remove the port instead of a heat gun?

I would imagine so. Just be carefull with the amount of heat used when desoldering. You don't want to melt the pcb in any way. Less touch does cleaner work. Just make sure the wick is already in contact with the point your de soldering.

I'm confused. On the website, the product says "Mod is compatible with USB-C to USB-C cables", but in the video it says USB-C to USB-C will not work. Can someone confirm which is true?

Just installed mine, for me it seems both work - however, USB A-C cables work both ways while with C-C you have to find which side of the plug works. Kind of weird.

Hey i bought one of your guy's USB-c mod's and successfully swapped the ports, but now my Gameboy SP won't turn on anymore. The Orange charging light comes on correctly when plugged in but the screen refuses to turn on same as the green power light. The D58 resistor next to the USB port got a little burnt in the process, and I accidentally pulled out the P33 contact on the other side of the motherboard so that could be the reason for it.
Would you recommend any solutions for that?

If you pulled up a trace you need to fix that. That is why you have no power. Use a meter and trace the points to and from that contact.

what if the mod works same as you showed, plug it in, lights on for a sec and then off but still does that with the battery on?

Did you find a fix for this issue? I've tried numerous batteries all my soldering is thoroughly tested, checks out, but only get the blinking orange when plugged in.

Hello I got this mod soldered all the ports, however the charging light isn’t coming on does that mean I have to redo the soldering?
