San Diego is gorgeous. I remember flying into KSAN from Midway after a snowy 8 hour delay, in the middle of March. When we (Southwest) flew over the bay, I remember the USS Carl Vinson pulling into the port. It was absolutely stunning with an orange sunset shining down.
Always great to hear the change in engine pitch as the aircraft locks onto the glideslope..great video! My wife laughs at me for doing videos like this but I am an engineer and she's a nurse!
@@danrodrigues3531 I used to live in OB on Narragansett in the late 80's to mid 90's and I remember everyday about 10:45ish a TWA L-1011 would come over the house. OB was so chill then........still is but different.
I remember when I flew from Denver into San Diego. It will be something ill never forget poping through the clouds and seeing a whole new city. It was amazing
thanks for posting this....used to fly out there all the time and have always thought most beautiful yet thrilling approach of any airport in the country.
Thanks for posting. Ever since I was a kid I always loved flying to San Diego....except for flying in the day after PSA Flight 182. Me and my cousin were nervous wrecks until we touched down.
Outstanding low approach. Love watching the buildings go by. Really shows how fast you are moving. ( I guess you can tell by now I love low approaches, and steep takeoffs ) And isn't nice to see Wind Socks still in use. (-: See the world. Fly HD Aviation ! Thanks for all of your videos, Walter
Gorgeous approach complete with descending through clouds and great view of downtown. Thanks for keeping a static shot and not panning all over the place.
Awesome vid, but I can also see how much time has gone by. The “remains” of my old aerospace employer are visible in the gravel piles along side of the runway. Not exactly sure when they started tearing that massive complex down, but there’s a lot of parking lots now in that area.
The approach into KSAN runway Two-Seven has got to be the most interesting of any US city. Love visiting San Diego, what's not to like. The hardest part of any visit is having to leave.
I attempted to duplicate your clip of landing in SAN with a phone. Afraid the results do not even come close to your shots. Check it out and see what you think.
i could tell just by looking at the color and the engine that this was a us airways aircraft even before i heard the flight attendant say thank you for flying us airways ..i guess that's because i have flew on us airways so many times
My mom told me that during Winter the climate pretty much stays the same so that you can go to the beach even when its Winter, the water might be cold though. :P and San Diego's average daily temperature is 70.5° My favorite thing about San Diego is the beach because the sunsets are beautiful. :'3
MY FIRST TRIP INTO SAN DIEGO CAME IN 1953 AND WAS TO MCRD BY BUS FROM LONG BEACH. THE DAY BEGAN AT 6 AM BUS ARRIVED AT 1100 AND I HIT THE SACK AT 0200 AND UP AGAIN AT 0500...AH BOOT CAMP.
SAN resident here... they flip the pattern and land on 27 when the clouds are thick to have the ILS with decreased minimums... too much fog though and you will be spending the night in KLAX (divert!).
Great job!! I’ve been to California several times myself but never to San Diego. I heard that the airport in San Diego is a difficult airport to land at. Do you know if that’s true or not? Just curious!
It is a very interesting approach considering how close you get to a few buildings as compared to other airports, but because I'm not a pilot I couldn't comment on the level of difficulty.
For anyone who has been to San Diego, it's easy to see why this airport is so dangerous. It's locked between a mountain range and the Pacific Ocean. The homes are stacked on top of each other. The pilots have to come in very low over buildings and freeways and land on a runway that is right on the edge of the ocean, where if a plane has trouble slowing down on touchdown, it could wind up in the water.
I landed here on my way to Hawaii, and its a very uncomfortable landing, the plane begins its descent over mountains, then its a very hard and constant desecent trying to get to sea level, because that is where the airport is, in the middle of the ocean, and get there as quickly as possible, between buildings, houses, freeways, ridges, and flat descending landscapes, while fighting against the ocean current winds going against the aircraft.
that was for sure a normal approach for that runway. they cant just go low on the approach or they will get warnings about it in the cockpit. the instruments tell you exactly where you should be for altitude on approach and pilots know how to stay right on it
San Diego Airport was listed by the History channel as number 10 on the top ten most difficult approaches. When you fly into San Diego the Pilots and Co-Pilots must be certified to land in San Diego because of it's difficult approach. To make things worse they built a parking garage right into the flight path of approaching planes.
+Glen AW That garage has been there for over 30 years. I used it whenever I flew out of Lindbergh. As far as I know there's never been a problem with it.That's partially because the pilots have to verify for the entire approach there. They are especially aware of the glide slope. If there ever IS one it'll be an inferno, though. The runway backs right up to the fence which is right next to the Pacific Coast Highway, so there's no way to safely land a current commercial jet in first runway's first 1300 feet.
That's interesting! Nice hearing it from a pilot. I get all my information from article's posted from different news area's. I remember when people were raising a fuss about the garage. Wow it's been 30 years!!
the parking structure at lindbergh is and always has been a hazard to commercial pilots. This airport should have been relocated decades ago. It is so boxed in by terrain and buildings. Like landing in a bowl and hurry and get this plane up fast so we dont hit point loma.
This airport is known for having a multi-story parking lot the plane has to sort of "leap over" then descend down to the runways. This airport ranks as one of the Top 10 most dangerous airports for that reason.
It makes for a hell of a show on the ground. I went to San Diego for Thanksgiving (I filmed the take offs and landings, I don't know why I haven't posted them yet.) and on the day I headed back to Seattle, we arrived at the airport 3 hours before our flight, so what I did was take pictures of planes ans the came and went. The best aircraft I saw were a USAF KC-135 "Stratotanker", and an Air Canada "Rouge" 767.
In good conditions, fog with no wind at all, a 737 at least can make a very smooth autoland. I know that in some larger planes they can be pretty heavy though lol.
It's been a while since I flew in one of them, at least 15 years, that is why I asked. I guess they can fly all the way up to 30 years or more with good maintenance.
This channel is definitely a 757 haven!!
Always great to hear the change in engine pitch as the aircraft locks onto the glideslope..great video! My wife laughs at me for doing videos like this but I am an engineer and she's a nurse!
welcome to San Diego! I've lived here (sd) my entire life.
Yeah, it's a really nice city! I love to visit!
Beautiful city and lucky you. All the best for health and happiness to you!
OK. I'm jealous. I've visited San Diego many times and would LOVE to live there!
I've lived in Ocean Beach my entire life so I get to see all of these planes take off...

Yeah, San Diego gets you lower than most places! Glad you liked the video! Thanks again for the comment!
one of the most beautiful cities in america
floopy312 Yeah, San Diego is wonderful! I always enjoy my visits there!
floopy312 Its awesome living here!
floopy312 I want to meet San Diego so bad. Specially if it is around july with Comic Con there.
Definitely our finest city.
Gorgeous approach complete with descending through clouds and great view of downtown. Thanks for keeping a static shot and not panning all over the place.
This is cool. The plane is right over my house on the 47 second mark. THanks !
* chuckle *

Very nice! Love the HD look at breaking the low cloud deck
Excellent man!! excellent....very good video and very good sound!!....thanks....
sound is amazing, using my headphones, feels like I'm there... no crying babies. good camera work,
Oh these glorious RB-211s. This is an excellent video. Great work as usual 584jr.
They're great engines for sure! Glad you liked the video! I appreciate the comment!
Nice video! Happy Landings (and smooth takeoffs). 🛫🛬
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic well controlled landing! Loved it!
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! Thank you for the comment!
The landing in SD is unique; a grand view of the entire city on final approach and landing.
I wish every airport had an approach that passed their downtown, awesome vid btw liked!
Wonderful and adventurous life experience 😀
Great video. Loved how you kept the camera rock steady. So many others it is going all over the place and makes you dizzy.
At 2min and 11sec I can see where I used to live when I was a kid. Thanks. 😊
No worries! Always cool to see your home from the airplane!
Yes, it is.@@mah584jr
Extraordinary!!!! Excelent, the sound of the turbines are music for my ears. I also like the final anouncement
Looks to be a magnificent city!
Excellent video. I’m going there next month, thank you for sharing this.😊❤️
AH!! man just listen to that whine!! Beautiful
great filming with spectacular view, thanks for sharing!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
love your us airways 757 videos! Keep it up!
I remember when my dad flew from Philly to San Diego, we’re still not sure what kind of plane he took but I could’ve been this one.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this.
Holy hell, the flight attendant was a hottie for sure :)
that engine sound is great!
Awesome perfectly standard approach and landing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Reminds me of living out there. Not too many places where you can drive to work and see a cruise ship.
Great video! I love San Diego!
wow great... really liked this! I never get to see a daylight San Diego landing (or takeoff) since I always leave and arrive when it's dark.
That was beautiful.
The approach into KSAN runway Two-Seven has got to be the most interesting of any US city. Love visiting San Diego, what's not to like. The hardest part of any visit is having to leave.
+Kevin McCarthy It's a great city and a great airport!
+Kevin McCarthy How right you are. Approach to two-seven is amazing on a clear day
I attempted to duplicate your clip of landing in SAN with a phone. Afraid the results do not even come close to your shots. Check it out and see what you think.
Yet again another fantastic video:)
I can hardly wait to go there next summer.
I love the rolls royce! Nice video

Superb!

RB211's paired with a 757 is absolutely orgasmic.
... live in Alberta but this is Utopia to me ... incredibly beautiful ... perhaps someday ....................
I live in San Diego, I love downtown :3
wow amazing video!
It's never cloudy in San Diego
wow! gotta love those RRs engines
indeed:
re-directs thrust of the engine to push against the forward motion of the aircraft to help with braking
I'll be going there this winter break. Anything interesting in San Diego? :D
Nice video)))
That is unusual that it would be a 757 for such a short flight from Phoenix to San Diego. They are usually used for longer flights.
lol i saw the restaurant i ate at this morning at 1:29 . that place was good. :)
great landing
Thank you! Glad you liked it!

Flew into Diego in 1996 on a 737, the 757 is a much sweeter experience.

Yep, not the smoothest descent. But landing in Denver is rougher.
BRILL FILM
nice video! i thought SD was always sunny though? :D
Thanks!
Wow what camera do you use? The sound quality from those engines is just amazing!
This is a Sony HDR CX-100! Glad you liked the video so much! Thank you for the comment!
you flew over my house!!!
that was for sure a normal approach for that runway. they cant just go low on the approach or they will get warnings about it in the cockpit. the instruments tell you exactly where you should be for altitude on approach and pilots know how to stay right on it
Yes, I certainly agree with this!

Awesome
nice engine soundssssssssss
What camera do you use?

Yeah, I've been up to the top of that parking garage! It's pretty amazing how close the aircraft get!
***** The Pilots had a fit when they built that garage. It affectively cuts of about a third of the runway making much more difficult to land at.
+Glen AW That garage has been there for over 30 years. I used it whenever I flew out of Lindbergh. As far as I know there's never been a problem with it.That's partially because the pilots have to verify for the entire approach there. They are especially aware of the glide slope. Ah my home airfield...I love SAN, who couldn't with the infamous RWY27 LOC?
the parking structure at lindbergh is and always has been a hazard to commercial pilots. This airport should have been relocated decades ago. It is so boxed in by terrain and buildings. Like landing in a bowl and hurry and get this plane up fast so we dont hit point loma.
@miciex how do you know?

Yeah, I've been to the top of that parking garage! It's an awesome experience!
***** You wonder why that parking garage was 1) built on that spot and )2 if there...why that high?
Hmm, I don't know why!

Dylan Tucker Well...I hope they never have an accident at that airport because of that building. It's weird that it was built...right there.
Ok. Thanks for the info X3
What was the descent rate coming out of clouds look like -5 or -10
Not sure honestly! I'm no technical expert!
ok its fine your vids are still very cool
The rate of descent is actually about 3.5º.
Looked almost like an autoland it was so soft!
Autolands generally make quite positive touchdowns, no smoothness in them.
In good conditions, fog with no wind at all, a 737 at least can make a very smooth autoland. I know that in some larger planes they can be pretty heavy though lol.
I haven't flown on a 757 in the last 10 years.
That's a long time! Time to get on another one soon!
***** I know, right? But since I usually fly Southwest, I'm just gonna stick to the 737's for now. :(
@miciex ah ok good point
the sounds remind me of the 737200 same
"...a member of the Death Star Alliance network." **cue "Imperial March"...**
... cannot imagine a more wonderful place ... but the CHARGERS are gone ... massive tragedy !!!
Fucking brilliant!!!!!!!!!
How old are these 757s?
Not exactly sure, I'd say at least 20 years old!
It's been a while since I flew in one of them, at least 15 years, that is why I asked. I guess they can fly all the way up to 30 years or more with good maintenance.
ecerejo The planes are ok, it's the engines one has to worry about.
I believe every airline has to change the engine every "so many hours" set by the FAA. I think metal fatigue is harder to detect.
3:42 wow
You can use cameras -.-
You get a regular 'like' because there is no "huge" thumb for your requested "huge" like.
can some1 please explain what is that loud sound after a plane lands ? sounds like strong wind... thanks
Thrust reversers.
Us airways Rip 😢
it was a manual landing without Autothrust.. !!!
Tricky airport to land
robertk2007 Yeah, pretty neat!
Wow a 757 now it's one world not starallalince anymore because of the merger between American and us airways plus I'm going on us airways a330 today
Enjoy your flight!
Huh? This is a 757.
The black hole...
