There is a sense of urgency building up between season 1 and 2 themes. The first season was more subtle, with clearer skies and more natural vegetation, that represents simpler times for Frank. During season 2, the theme conveys a sense of urgency with more rushed and hyped up music. like there is a rush to get something done, or else it will all come crashing down. Darker skies fall upon the city and the trees lose their leaves, showing that Frank is getting more jaded and corrupted as time goes on, eventually losing any sense of decency (the leaves) as they shed away. Does this even make sense? Hope so.
It's not only an outstanding piece of music (always blended in nicely with the scene before it) but together with the cinematography of DC is one of the best tv intros, Netflix really know what there doing when they bring out an original series.
It's subtle... you can sort of pick up on the difference as the seasons move on.. the trumpets get louder each season.. the opera part gets louder... the drum beats are louder.. I think as the seasons move on it's suppose to have that majestic build up as Francis gains more power, so do the opening credits, leading up to the ultimate goal of landing in the oval office then its a full blown, all out, opening sequence.. just my opinion on it!
Oh my God, that part 3:45 with additional whatever instrument is pure genius from Jeff Beal. I noticed this part happens at the end credit of chapter 64, when Frank announes his resignation
It was my favorite series, but when word came out regarding his depravity, I was sickened to even think of him and never watched the show again. I only came here because I love the Intro so much. Season One's Intro is the best, the most nostalgic, followed by Season Two's.
I wish that Netflix would have continued under a new title. I would have called it "Maneater". And let her rule for eight more seasons Madam President Underwood. Wow what a show that would have been! Love to see who she'd pick for her first gentleman?

@@rodrigopimentel5339 Ikr this show is actually super good imo
What I love the most about this intro is that is so subtle, not noisy, it's just soft and strong at the same time

Omg! I had the same opinion. I thought i am the only one who thinks like that.
I don´t think that´s such a bad analysis of it! Damn well, I say. Thumbs up! :-)
Great analysis
I agree, but Season 1's theme is still the best. I believe that this is Kevin Spacey's Magnum Opus of all his movies and miniseries.
I KNEW the intro song changed as time went on. Just glad to know I’m not crazy... at least not in that regard.
3:43 That part just gets me. Like damn. Such a sublime flourish

I agree, I believe those are bongo drums.
3:45 was the scene that the Education Bill was leaked and published on the headlines of newspapers. When Linda was watching it on cellphone nervously.
i love how the ostinato is in a minor key while the melody (and it's accompanying harmony) is often in a major key.
Yeah! The music of House of Cards is incredible.
Damn you spacey
Dr br he just spoiled house of cards for me
Yes
