- Welcome to the Life of Nene Leakes! I will Never shy away from telling you how it is. I am the "Original Housewife" of Atlanta, author, actor, and entrepreneur but I'm also a mom, friend and human being.
My life was turned upside down after losing my husband Gregg, now I'm forced to navigate life alone after sharing it with my partner of 27 years. I have taken time to reflect and now look forward to new beginnings. I'm hopeful for what life will bring and welcome you to witness my journey.

OMG Nene I’m watching this video and I’m an only child, not married and no children. My parents are deceased and I had a whole breakdown in the doctors office the first time I had to update my forms with an emergency contact 😢😢😢😢. LIFE honey. It’s not a joke. Sending you a big, tight virtual hug

As a divorced woman, I can 100% relate to crying at the emergency contact part! And the thoughts that come after for sure! I appreciate her vulnerability during this pillow talk because I can relate wholeheartedly.

Exactly, she have to be careful with these wannabe men, n if something happens to her they might fight n treat her sons bad,getting married has no guarantee he’ll be there for u, some women don’t like being along, they feel they must have a man in their life to be happy, these men r coming into vulnerable women’s lives with a premeditated plan to married them for a few years n then divorce them for spouse support.

Nene remember you deserve happiness. Please don’t settle for someone just for an emergency contact. Your son is old enough to handle an emergency situation if you outline for him your medical wishes on paper and have long talks with him about this.. Your best friend is also good enough for this too. I know you’re still grieving but you’re gonna be ok once the rawness wears off.
Girl, I definitely feel how that "emergency contact" section can get to you, I deal with that too. Job applications, medical forms, etc. It's heartbreaking. I'm not married but I do have children but they aren't dependable yet because their lives are just beginning.
I can't depend on other family because I hardly hear from them. I don't have a best friend.
As big as this world is you would think everybody has somebody but its not so.
Divorced w/ a 21 year old in the Marines and my 18 year old barely answers his phone.😢 i still put my ex down.. he may or may not show up.

Im so sorry Nene...don't ever settle! I'm currently going through a divorce and that same question hit me hard and I had a panic attack. But I realized that God has got me and I am not alone! You are not alone putting your son or friend as your emergency contact is absolutely ok.

Some of these men want you to take care of them. Don’t settle for anyone you don’t feel comfortable with. The loss of your husband is still fresh. I lost my husband going on 7 years and I still not ready to marry/date anyone and I am ok with it. Do what makes you happy.

I can relate. I lost my best friend of 30 yrs, who had my back threw everything. He also was my emergancy contact.He passed away and I was lost. Relocated and got used and lied to by someone who I had a past with. At first he made me feel like I could trust in him. I thought he was a friend. Two years in I know he is not to be trusted. Spending time a lone I wrote my book. Looking to get it published now. I am Single in every sense of the word. Always blessed to know I can take care of me. Im not claiming anyone, and Im not giving anyone the time to claim me.

I get it. It is very sad. I just had surgery. I went through the same thing. My mother was my contact and she passed last year. So now it's my Neice. Im 40ish😂 never been married and don't have kids. So it's definitely hard. Me and my siblings don't have the best relationship. But I trust my oldest Neice. She will be the one leave everything too.❤🙏🏽🙌🏽

My mother passed away when I was 8.. and I was raised by my grandmother.. she was my emergency contact until she passed away. The day I went for a job, I broke down cuz I didn’t know who to put! This is so real. Thanks for sharing

I lost my mother to death and my ex husband of 40 years to divorce at same time. Went to the Dr and they asked if my mother and husband were my next of kin. I cried uncontrollably for more than 20 minutes. I understand exactly what you're saying.

Wow!!! Sorry for your losses!!! Grieving is difficult you never get over your loved ones! I miss my mother so much and it’s been 3 years but sometimes it feels like yesterday! There’s going to be a lot more women of all races in this boat because men have rendered themselves pointless in our lives, as women become more and more self sufficient & opting out of motherhood, or single motherhood, because the men will likely not stick around to help you raise those babies, or will cheat, or be verbally, emotionally, or even physically abusive. I know me personally, I’d never put up with any crap like that… and emotional abuse comes in many forms, narcissistic & verbal. So nowadays it’s best to remain single until & unless a woman hits the relationship lottery. And even then let’s see how long it lasts, with 50% divorce rate.
Let’s get real. That whole marriage farce is a delusion that many women have been groomed to worship, when we know we came into this world alone, & will be going out alone. So might as well embrace what’s in between & love ❤️ ourselves.

Gurl I so feel this post.. I’ve been single over 20 years (situationships don’t count) I have no children and 52 years old and the only child which Im a caregiver to my sick mother. I often get depressed and discouraged when I think about being alone and just settling because I need an emergency contact.. but shit is real out here when trying to date or meet someone of quality especially in the age group I’m in..

This hit home for me on so many levels😢 I got divorced after being with this person for over 20yrs. That was 2017 & in 2019 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had to use my children as my emergency contact. I struggle with this still, and I have considered getting in a relationship for that purpose.

I still struggle with filling out the emergency contact.. after losing my entire immediate family. I feel your hurt, I know I have people in my life that love and care about me, but it’s different. I know you have your children, but it just hits different. It will get better with time, don’t rush into anything. You have to take your time, and God always got you. ❤

Oh, wow. My life mirrors yours. I've lost all of my immediate family, most to death & 1 to prison. I have 1 child & he's grown but I hate putting him as my emergency contact. He doesn't mind but for me I feel like to put that kind of burden on him makes me so sad. God has helped me endure for sure but I def have my moments. ❤

Being single isn't easy but take it one day at a time. Put yourself in a position where you're always meeting people. Date multiple people and then eventually choose the best fit for you. It's all a gamble but you'll win. Think positive.❤️

I wish people would try to understand what she was going through those kast seasons. It is hard being a caregiver. My mom did it for my grandmother and my dad before they both passed. My parents had been married 50 yrs when my dad passed. That's a huge loss to deal with. Thankfully, my mom still has her 3 children very close by to help her through the grief.

Nene, I'm 52, single, divorced for about 10yrs. I Still think of that. My daughter is 32 But that's my child. I watch my friends in these dysfunctional marriages, but they do have that Emergency contact. I understand your plight and pain. I Really don't want to settle for that reason. It's hard

Nina my heart breaks. I’ve been with my husband since I was 14 ! We will be married 40 years next year. My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and my Life is scary right now. I never heard thought about emergency contact. Watching your strength gives me hope
Greg is such a standard and unfortunately a love like that most times only comes once in a lifetime and to have experienced it at all is a huge blessing because many won’t.
As a gerontologist studying the female cohort, we are disproportionately aging alone and for many this comes with financial hardships and homelessness due to one income and rising cost of living. Most just have not saved or been able to prepare adequately probably thinking they would eventually be married.
Based on your studies, what’s the best way to prepare? Home ownership? I always hear women online brag about research showing that men are dying alone… so this shocks me. That seems so scary and I’m only 22

😢 I’m feeling this pillow talk. I’m over 55yrs and I have learned that being alone is not so bad. I love me more than anything. I didn’t always feel this way. After two marriages the first marriage lasted 5yrs the second lasted 27yrs. I would never marry just to have a partner for life and I wouldn’t recommend that for any woman. I get alone with me better than anyone else 😂😂😂 it’s just me myself and I. I would never disappoint myself in my Beyoncé voice.
